I'm a French university student majoring in languages & economics, and I'm planning on travelling to New Zealand next summer ... where should I visit ? what do you recommend on doing ? is NZ expensive ? are there any good universities I could apply for since I'd like to spend my senior year abroad ?

Note that I've never travelled any further than the UK, therefore it'll be a daunting experience for me. Guide me Kiwibros !
>>
Pretty simple really. If you like cities, urban culture, night life etc go north (Wellington/Auckland). If you like stunning nature, scenery, socialising limited to getting wasted go rural south (Christchurch and surrounding areas, Queenstown)
>>
Fine, how much should I spend by staying in NZ for about two weeks, implying that I'm not a spendthrift ?

Fuck knows, depends where you're staying

>Note that I've never travelled any further than the UK

I think you'll be ok then m8, there won't be much of a culture shock. NZ is basically a poorer, less relevant England with more countryside, less cities and a lower population density.

Come to south Auckland ow show you a good time cunt
>>
I can sleep/eat in cheap places and would prefer to stay out of urban areas, heard NZ has some nice landscape, would love to see that.
>>
>>51958116

South Island for nice landscapes, but there are some decent spots around the North Island as well, really if you're ok with crashing and eating in cheap spots and just having a wander about the country you'll be fine, just use common sense and do your research. As with most countries, you have to find the gems and avoid the tourist traps.

I still recommend checking out Wellington, kiwis will meme it up but 2bh it's a great city to walk around during the day and there's usually always some sort of arty thing happening at a given time.

Cost of living can be expensive, just a heads up.

Also, you won't get much done in two weeks.

I'd actually be glad to know some NZers mates before going there, but unfortunately I have never met any of you guys outside of /int/. Australian shitposters have detered me from going to their country, therefose I chose NZ !

>>51958294
Is Wellington the French equivalent of Lyon (city's second biggest city) ? If so, I must go there.
I need to save up more money if I want to visit NZ any longer, maybe I'll come with a friend so we can help out each other ... but sadly I seem to be the only one in my crew wanting to travel so far away from the Old Continent.

but mate everyone here loves french accents, as soon as you speak with that feminine arrogant tone everyone in the room will want to bant you

>nature, scenery
>Christchurch
Living in that barren wasteland is not worth the occasional trip to Banks Peninsula or Mount Cook, m8.

Otago Uni if you want the authentic New Zealand university experience. It's more or less the best university here and has global recognition as a fairly good uni. Auckland uni has a slightly higher ranking, but Auckland is an ugly, sprawling suburban shithole. Chrushedchurch is an even worse city and its universities are rubbish. Otago does have a big drinking culture but it's easy to avoid if it's not your kind of thing and Dunners is pretty comfy. Wellington is also comfy and Victoria Uni is an option so long as you don't mind the fact it's known as the liberal douche university of New Zealand (at least on 4chan).
>>
>>51958869

I meant because there's a uni there and you can still drive all over south island easily. NZ is not a big country
>>
>>51959418
>chch uni is bad
'no'
>>
>>51958637
I was joking about south Auckland unless you enjoy domestic abuse and cheap weed
>>
>>51959454
It looks like a collection of commieblocks
>>
>>51959487
Oh yeah architecturally its shit
>>
>>51958637

I'd been keen for meeting up in Auckland too. Haven't used my French knowledge in about 5 years so it would be nice to practice that a little as well
>>
>>51959418
didn't one of the Rolling Stones call Dunners a depressing shithole?
what a prick
>>
>>51959693
But why? Seems cozy
>>
>>51959693

Jerseylad here, Dunedin (particularly that little winding road and the hill houses across the water from the centre) was an exceptionally comfy town. Loved it all around Orago t bqh
>>
where the fuck are all you kiwis coming from?
normally I only see one every week or so, did the 'new Zealand mentioned' alarm sound off?
>>
>>51959787

What are you on? I see plenty of kiwis posting on the reg

From what I browse on the Internet, Otago University and Dunedin look lovely ! I just realized (Lyon III) has a partnership with Otago, Auckland and Victoria universities, that's great.
Well, as long as they don't force their shitty political upon me, I should be fine whatsoever ...
Thanks for these information kiwibro.

>>51959455
I couldn't have guessed it, but it can't be worse than some French cities, trust me.

>>51959583
I've always been a lurker on /int/, it's actually my first post on this board, how do you even organize meetups with anons ?
>>

It is
Get a load of this wanker (Keith Richards)
>Dunedin, for instance, almost the southernmost city in the world, in New Zealand. It looked like Tombstone and it felt like it. It still had hitching rails. It was Sunday, a wet Sunday in Dunedin in 1965. I don't think you could find anything more depressing anywhere. The longest day of my life, it seemed to go on forever. We were usually pretty good at entertaining ourselves, but Dunedin made Aberdeen seem like Las Vegas. Very rarely did everyone get depressed at the same time; there was usually one to support the others. But in Dunedin everyone was totally depressed. No chance of any redemption or laughter. Even the drink didn't get you pissed.
