To be honest, it has to do with the Jewish shipping companies who have realized it's easier to ship stuff via large truck compared to a train. After all the street infrastructure is there, why should they have to invest money in building railroads? This results in heavier vehicles going down roads that were not intended for them or high traffic flow. So our roads get fucked up.

Freeze melt doesn't help either. My state does invest a lot of money in its roads, so we have really nice highways and freeways and most residential roads are nice. The road to my house is kind of shit, but that's because I live in the middle of nowhere and county doesn't want to redo them because there's only a handful of people who live out here.

Where I live has the oldest roads and highway system in the country, as well as the most traffic. The roads are windy and small as fuck, but they're still well maintained and more than drivable, even for some trucks, though they have separate lanes for ones carrying heavy loads.
The worst roads I've driven on have been the ones along the route to Canada, entering Ontario actually, near Vermont. There's a lot of metal bridges that freeze over in the winter and there's always at least one or two deaths each winter because someone skids out on the ice and crashes when the don't expect it. Driving along that road in December was in the dead of night was one of the scariest experiences of my life.
The roads in my state was built by the Italian mafia.
You can probably guess how much mafia dough actually went into roadwork.
