It's fucking real, holy shit.

>Ms Merkel had provided "steadfast moral leadership in a world where it is in short supply", editor Nancy Gibbs wrote.
>Ms Gibbs wrote of Mrs Merkel: "For asking more of her country than most politicians would dare, for standing firm against tyranny as well as expedience and for providing steadfast moral leadership in a world where it is in short supply, Angela Merkel is 'Time's Person of the Year'."
>Citing the refugee and Greek economic crises, along with the Paris terror attacks, Ms Gibbs said: "Each time Merkel stepped in. Germany would bail Greece out, on her strict terms. It would welcome refugees as casualties of radical Islamist savagery, not carriers of it."

She won because of >muh refugees, you can't make this shit up. Good job Time.
>>
The refugees are just in Germany temporarily til the war is over... r-right?
>>
The list of Time Person of the Year 2015:

1) Angela Merkel - German chancellor since the 2005 election, leader of the CDU
2) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi - head of the Islamic State militant group
3) Donald Trump - business magnate seeking Republican nomination as US presidential candidate
4) Black Lives Matter - activist group campaigning against violence towards black people, notably in the US
5) Hassan Rouhani - president of Iran since 2013
6) Travis Kalanick - US entrepreneur, founder of the Uber transportation network firm
7) Caitlyn Jenner - born Bruce Jenner, became 1976 Olympic decathlon champion, officially changed name and gender in 2015

>>
>>51884268
angela merkel sucks at solving European financial problems. Her system failed, and is still failing. Europe is more divided. The U.K. may run away, Denmark is running away, Poland wants no part of the Euro. Growth is stagnant or negative. She let's in millions of people who aren't even refugees, and threatens other countries who don't want to.

But I guess maybe you are German and feel some pride or something, so you feel you want to defend her. She hasn't been successful in her leadership role of Europe that she herself insists upon.

Note that Caitlyn Jenner is also on the list. This is just a PC media multicultural tumblr fest.

Time mainly justified Merkel being Person of the Year because of her leading role in the refugees crisis. Thing is, that crisis is only happening in the first place thanks to al-Bagdhadi.

And Putin not even being on the list is ridiculous. Uber? A transgender unknown? Black lives matter? Really?

What? The Eurozone has been around since 1998 and the EU it its current vestige since 1993. Blaming her for the design of the system is just wrong.

No, the EU in its current from only came around in the late 2000s with the Treaty of Lisbon which gave it much more powers than it had when it was formed in 93.

"Fuck Time Magazine!"- Steve Jobs

That's my favourite quote from him.
>>
>>51884265
1) Angela Merkel - German Chancellor, currently drowning Europe in economic migrants and refugees.
2) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi - Is this a joke?
3) Donald Trump - Slightly deranged, twice divorced casino and real-estate magnate known primarily for being a rich asshole. Epitomizes the hollowness of the GOP.
4) BLM - Entitled, whiny black student group, refuses to own any and all problems within the black community in favor of laying blame at the feet of others. Despise free expression, personal responsibility, white people.
5) Hassan Rouhani - President of Iran. Maintains the repressive authoritarian theocracy of the Islamic Republic. Currently engaged in sectarian wars and terrorism across MENA.
6) Travis Kalanick - Founder of Uber. Because Uber is just that important to the media and press writing this list who need to get somewhere and can't wait for a taxi.
7) Caitlyn Jenner - Trans guy/girl. It's 2015!

What force is there being exerted? Anybody who doesn't like the terms proposed can get his money elsewhere. It's an offer, not an ultimatum. "forced" austerity because it tried to put a solution into a problem where it doesn't fit. Greece is not Germany that style of austerity was a terrible fit for Greece. It didn't work well. She was a main proponent of that austerity and worked out a lot of the details.

>>51898458
I am not talking about the offer, I am talking about the strategy. Austerity was forced as a solution where it didn't fit. If it was the right solution, it wouldn't need to be forced. It's like putting a puzzle piece where it doesn't belong. You force it in, but it doesn't fit. So then you try another one.

Austerity does not fit, yet it was forced onto the problem, and it did not work. The pressure of the force went into unemployment, cuts in pensions, etc, even long after the problem was supposed to solved, it was forced again.

If the Greeks don't like the offer they don't need to accept it. Nobody's forcing them. They have several options. They could e.g. get their money instead from the free markets. There's no austeritiy attached to it. Only high interest rates. Another alternative would be that they only spend as much as they earn. The Greeks don't want these two options. They prefer the low interest money with austerity attached to it. Their CHOICE. No force. The fact that the offer from the other EZ members (not Germany alone btw) is their best option doesn't make it a forced solution. In fact it makes it an act of solidarity.

All you had to do is be mildly reasonable and remove "forced" from your sentence in order for it to make sense and accurately convey what you were trying to argue.

And you'll say I don't understand. I do understand. You're forcing the alternate meaning, that by saying forced you don't mean literally enforced upon others but "conducted even though it is not a good fit for the situation". It's stupid of you and it doesn't work in your context.

Again, all you had to do was acknowledge that the word "forced" was misused and unnecessary and omit it, but you are just too thickheaded to do so. I'm off, bye.

I didn't ignore anything it. But you didn't address my use of the word force, and substituted it in your mind with YOUR use of the word force, along with some paranoid idea that I have an agenda that I score big points with by using the word force on 4chan.

The strategy was forced on the problem where this strategy doesn't fit as a solution.

Your answer is

>But the Greeks weren't forced into agreeing

yes, I say, true, but I never said they were, I said the strategy of austerity was being repeatedly forced when another strategy would be better. You cant force austerity to work if it isn't the right solution.

And then we repeat the same thing over and over

So how about now you address my use of the word force.

Let me start by asking you how well you think the strategy has worked all these years?
>>
>>51901998

Yuropoors are ignorant
>>
>>51902006
>I never said the Greeks were forced. I just said they were forced.
This is your reasoning.

Choosing isn't being forced. Offering an option isn't forcing a strategy. The choice of the words force is completely inadequate because it conveys a meaning that just doesn't belong there. You can rephrase it all you want. As long as the word force is in there, you're wrong, because there's no force involved.
>>
>>51902252
It can have more than one meaning, which is why I clarified immediately what I meant when you brought it up.

Words and phrases can be taken more than one way. Just because one way is wrong, doesn't mean they all are.
>>
>>51902393
None of what you offered made sense with the words chosen, because it always conveys the meaning of "voilence, compulsion, or constraint exerted upon or against a person or thing". Which is simply not true. The facts are that there are options, there are offers. There is no force involved. A "forced strategy" means nothing different than "forcing the strategy on the victim". That's simply not the case. I've explained this exhaustively.
>>
>>51897717
>I asked you where there's force being exerted.
Well Germany did force a vote upon Greeks about several different debt relief packages.
>>
>>51902673
>A "forced strategy" means nothing different than "forcing the strategy on the victim".

Only to you, what it meant to me when I wrote, and I indeed clarified it immediately to remove all other meanings, was the they are trying to force austerity to solve the problem, when it didn't work, then they tried more, and it didn't work, they kept trying to force it to work.

It's really very simple, and if you are so sensitive that you can't bear someone saying a phrase that has a double meaning, when one of the meanings looks like Germany is forcing Greece, even when the person freely and immediately clarifies that that was not what was meant, then you have real sensitivity issues about your country.

Do you agree that phrases can have more than one meaning?

Do you agree that people can force a solution onto problems in thier life that just aren't working, but they try to force it anyway?

Do you think it's wrong to use phrases that have double meanings when your country is involved, even if the person clarifies afterwords?
>>
>>51902735
No it didn't. The Greek government chose to have a vote about it. It could have acted without that vote and just do without legitimizing every single step of executing its executive powers given by the people. In fact it did so on many occasions. But to have a vote on that was a CHOICE of the Greek government, for fairly cheap party politics and propaganda reasons btw.
The German government can exert no force upon the Greek government. Just read the Greek constitution. You will find no reference to the German government there. Hence, everything the Greek government does is its own choice.
>>
>>51902933
You're trying to explain the choice of the word force with another group of words which again includes the word force. Which means you're not explaining anything. You're just acting as if you said something different when in fact you didn't. You just rephrased the same thing. And it means the same thing. A thing which has no semblance to the facts of reality.
>>
>>51903398
>Do you agree that people can force a solution onto problems in their life that just aren't working, but they try to force it anyway?

Try answering this one, it will help you understand.

Dont ignore it, actually answer it.
>>
>>51903505
Just explain what you mean without using the word force. If you can. Maybe you don't like how much tames it sounds then. Maybe that's why you insist to use a word unsuitable to describe the situation. What do you really mean by "forcing a strategy" and "forcing austerity"? Explain it without using the same word in the explanation. Do you just mean repeating similar offers over again? If so, you must see how intentionally misleading the choice of words is.

Why ignore all my questions, and then expect me to answer yours?

But because I am a sport I will answer yours.

You try a solution to a problem, and it doesn't work, you try it again and again, after some time you are putting a lot of drive and energy into one solution, trying to use extra effort and push your way into making the solution work, even though its not a good fit for the problem, and you are making unnecessary sacrifices along the way to try to make it work through effort and pushing.

Force does not always imply someone being dominated, it is an application of concentrated energy/ momentum. If you can think of it in physics terms, you are almost there.

I don't know why you are stuck on domination and coercion, when I am clearly not talking about that at all, which I clarified a long, long time ago
>>
"forced laughter"
>>
>>51904148
>you try it again and again
So that's what you mean then: repeating something. That's not forcing something. Forcing something means to override the will of the subject through power, like in physics when the piano you're carrying forces you on your knees even though you don't want to. But the power of gravity is greater than your will. Yet, that's not the case here as the subject (Greece) has choice, as I already explained.

If you mean repeating you should just say repeating.
>>
>>51904454
Forget repeating, it is trying to make something work through sheer effort, when it's not working

"Forced laughter" is a good example, you can only do it once.

Forcing a solution (like austerity) onto a problem when it's not working just by doing it harder and with more effort is another good example

Also force in physics does not have to involve will.

It is becoming obvious that you are deliberately not understanding, because it is really simple

>trying to make something work through sheer effort, when it's not working
That doesn't describe the situation either. It's not Germany or Merkel trying to make something work. It's the EZ members setting terms for an offer. And it's Greece that has to put up the effort to meet the terms. Where's the effort on the side of the other EZ members? Writing proposals? Printing money?

>"Forced laughter" is a good example, you can only do it once.
It's not as it doesn't involve a relationship between different subjects as the case at hand does. Forced laughter means a person chooses to make sounds that imitate real laughter as reaction to a situation which isn't really funny but leaves the person speechless. This has no analogy to "forcing austerity". What should that mean with this in mind?

>Also force in physics does not have to involve will.
Greeks do have will. That's the point why the word force is unsuitable here. Greeks aren't inanimate objects, even though they're trying to paint he picture that they're treated as if.

Your analogies and explanations don't support your case. The question isn't whether SOMETHING exists that can be described with the meanings you offered by the words you chose. The question is whether these alternative explanations apply to the situation of Germany/Merkel/EZ-members and Greece. Only then would the choice of words be appropriate.
