Peronism was banned from running for elections, so they became each year more violent. During Maria Estela Peron's government, the AAA (Anti-communist Argentinean Alliance), a paramilitary governmental group which hunted down these guys. All this led up to the 76 coup d'etat where they started hunted down almost everyone involved in political matters and of course terrorists as well (montoneros).
To give you an example, Montoneros executed Aramburu, the leader of the coup d'etat against Peron in 1955 and banned peronism from elections.
