Is "dirty blonde" a uniquely American concept?
It was inspired by nazis so I don't think so

Say what now?

I'm not even sure it's a fully American concept as hardly any of us can even agree on what it is.

What a coincidence. I'm Scottish myself, by heritage. Ewan and I are practically brothers :^)

To me, dirty blonde was something like pic related, a clear mix of blonde and brown hair strands.
But over the last few years or so, there seems to be a huge push for light brown hair with slightly yellowish hue or tint to be considered "blonde" or "dirty blonde."
I've even heard the term "dark blonde" thrown around too, which seems to be a contradiction. The entire point of blonde hair is that it's light, not dark. Personally, I think it may just be a cover to hid the fact that America is getting less and less white.
But with that said, Ewan McGregor is actually dirty blonde, though I don't know if it's natural or not. That pic makes it look light brown, maybe because of the lighting.
