Right now I get a lot of grants from my university so I only have to pay about $500 per semester out of pocket, although the case was different a few years back. Otherwise I just work a lot, save my money, and don't spend on things like alcohol or parties very often.

My first trip was four months in summer of 2013. Second one was about five months of traveling, and then I stayed and lived in India for a short while. Went back to India again after that in winter 2014/2015, Colombia for a month in August and September, and am going to India next week. Already have a ticket to Mexico City booked for a couple weeks in March.

Went there on a whim after getting stranded in Diyarbakir. I mostly stayed in the Kurdish part of the country.

I went in summer of 2013, so this was pre-ISIS. Kurdistan at the time hadn't had a single foreigner kidnapping or murder in over a decade, so I was pretty confident in regards to my own safety.
