No. I think most Americans realize the sugary taste dulls other flavors.Most Americans that eat sushi buy it with mass produced Japanese stuff like Mizu Sake or Sapporo/Kirin beer.
Sushi has become mainstream enough here in California to the degree that almost every significant chain store stocks nigiri and various types of authentic Japanese and knock of American rolls. With those variaties, Americans typically just buy it as a casual $7 meal and drink whatever they please with it.
I often buy a set they sell at my local market that has shrimp, egg, tuna, mackarel, salmon, halibut, roe, squid and scallop pieces with a California or Spicy Salmon roll and pay about $11. I have it with either coffee and water if I have to work or sake if I'm free afterwards.
I love dogs and chebs.

It's just Starbucks that does that here.. Some American chains have the urge to be as American as possible, even in Europe. I think that's what killed Walmart in Germany, actually.

Do they manage to keep the quality as they expand? There's one chain that started in my city that got really big and has lost some of the quality.
