It's funny cause the opposite is true. Maybe not completely the really isolated western parts are eh. But I don't like Northern VA. But I like VA kind of. lots of land, great national parks, mountains to the west, suburbs are okay if thats your thing. It's not bad.
In terms of being "Southern" it's pretty damn well off here.
