There's something annoying about tourists who think some other place in the world is the greatest thing in the world by virtue of it not being their every-day hum-drum surroundings. It seems to them that those places, in which people work and live, are a sort of theme park where everything exists for their enjoyment.

So I found out about "Paris Syndrome" which is a sort of disillusionment Japanese people have when instead of fashionable hot white people eating at outdoors cafe, they find Muslims and black people, and dog shit on the streets.

It's so great, because it reminds me of those annoying people who are obsessively into Japanese culture with unrealistic expectations, get their hopes and dreams destroyed when they go to Japan. Then they go home better people, if not bitter and angry.

The Japanese embassy in Paris even has a hotline for tourists who are struck by this syndrome upon arrival

>This year alone, the Japanese embassy in Paris has had to repatriate four people with a doctor or nurse on board the plane to help them get over the shock.
>The Japanese embassy has a 24-hour hotline for those suffering from severe culture shock, and can help find hospital treatment for anyone in need.

Its a sad state of affairs. I'd like to remind you all that hundred year old sculptures, statues, monuments, fountains and the like have almost been destroyed by "tags" and other acts of barbarity.

I just moved so I got rid of a lot of old shit, among them old notebooks which contained travel diaries.

First entry for Paris (the first time I visited):
>The city smells like life. At first I thought it was just the riverside that smelled like a dump for dead bodies, but no, everywhere I go it smells like fecal, urine, vomit and rotten food. Witnessed a hose man washing the street today. Quite clever, he started from uphill and washed the filth down. It was a mix of browned cabbage leaves, cigarettes and grayish goo. I like it here.
>>
>>51677812

I personaly don't get why people still travel to Paris. It was a beautiful place 50 years ago, for sure. But today it's just a shithole, dirty and unsecure, thuggish, black and arabs everywhere, the city is just done. There's nice buildings, but nothing more. It's not fine anymore.

Don't go there.
>>
>>51677878
Jesuis fucking christ; did they also have hand-holding escorts until they get back to Tokyo too?
>>
>>51678192
no matter how shitty it is, its still one of the greatest cultural achievements of man. Even I as a paki could appreciate the magic of that city. Visiting it was almost a spiritual experience for me, I can only imagine how breathtaking it was 50-60 years ago.
>>
>>51677812
Nowadays, Japanese people know that Paris is full of Muslims and Chinese.
There is almost nobody who think Paris is a city of dream or whatever.
Our image of Paris is just a dangerous city with so many immigrants and muslims.
>>
>It's so great, because it reminds me of those annoying people who are obsessively into Japanese culture with unrealistic expectations, get their hopes and dreams destroyed when they go to Japan.

desu the more I hear about Japan the more I want to go there. Sounds like a country full of assburgers where everybody spends extra time making sure things are clean and orderly. Plus their food is top tier. Are there any huge downsides/realities I am not thinking of? Note: I'm 100% not interested in a Japanese waifu or anime becoming real.

>>51677812
I went to China for a school program and got this feeling hardcore, I thought it would be, you know nice and like America, then it turns out to be a borderline 3rd world shit hole.

>>51678118

I visited France a few months ago. I didn't even reach Paris, but went to Nevers. For the most part, I had no problems, was careful not to make trouble, etc. But I was a part of a tour group comprised of old people that went about as obnoxious American tourists.

They're regretful that we didn't get to go to Paris, and everyone else at home was asking me about Paris. I am happy to be home, though.

(I'd be interested to go back, but instead to visit Brittany. That place has gotten me curious.)
>>
>>51678321

What's the new tour fetish target for Japanese people? I hear England's Cotswolds area had to post signs in Japanese telling people not to go into peoples' homes, or something.
>>
>>51678582
Other than Hawaii, people lose interests going abroad, imo.
Hawaii is always No.1 destination loved by Japanese.
>>
>>51677812
>because it reminds me of those annoying people who are obsessively into Japanese culture with unrealistic expectations, get their hopes and dreams destroyed when they go to Japan.

I find this interesting because pretty much every weeaboo I've met has absolutely loved their visit to Japan. I think it's one of the few places that actually lives up to the hype, esepecially if you have a vested interest in the culture already.
>>
>>51678889

There has to be that one weeaboo who stayed for a long time and changed into someone jaded and regretful of their life choices.

Also, there may be a difference between American weebs and Australian weebs because of proximity, right? Trying to gauge cultural difference affecting weeabooisms.

But yeah, going back to tourism... what a shitty time to go abroad. Here in Los Angeles, 14 people got killed at a nearby area. Granted, it's not like Paris but it's a general sense of danger all around.
>>
But I've been to Japan like two years ago, and it's really a very nice country to live in. Polite and respectful people, eye-pleasing architecture and silent parks whenever you want one or another. It's not imagination, just people respecting others. I really like this part of Japanese life, and wish our people could be as /jap/. Everything has the dark side, of course: hard work is a normal expectancy, but hell, it's worth it.
>>
>>51678889
This to be honest sempai.

I didn't even get into anime and shit until after I got back from Japan. I had heard all of the bad things about it and prepared myself for all of the anti-gaijin stuff but I quickly realized that as long as you remain respectful and understand that you are a visitor they will treat you well in what is probably the safest and cleanest major city in the world.

lel, Paris has always been a capital of crime, rioting and misery. A incredibly beautiful hyper-center while the rest of the city is messy, chaotic, dangerous and dirty. Paris hasn't changed, it's just /in/t pretending they know the city while they just spend a few days there like the average dumb tourist.

Isn't LA a very criminal city with lots of latino and black gangs and no go zones?
>>
I went to Paris expecting it to be a place with positives and negatives, like every other city on Earth.

I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Once you get over the shock of arriving at Gare du Nord and seeing Niggers everywhere you eventually realise most of the city, and the most important parts of it, are still fine.

At this point in time, almost every major western city is a disgusting nest of "diversity" but the good still often outweighs the bad

Never have I been more disappointed of a city. Took me 5 minutes to meet the first group of aggressive beggar gypsies, niggers and muslims everywhere, behaving like the kings of the city. It's dirty as hell too. Once a police transporter passed out of which some niggers and muslims were singing arabic songs and spitting on persons who walked on the street. Disgusting city.

>The best known, although not the most prevalent, manifestation of Jerusalem syndrome is the phenomenon whereby a person who seems previously balanced and devoid of any signs of psychopathology becomes psychotic after arriving in Jerusalem. The psychosis is characterised by an intense religious theme and typically resolves to full recovery after a few weeks or after being removed from the area.

You're an idiot.

The reason Japan has those fairy tale perceptions of Paris is because (1) that's the image being actively promoted by French tourism operators and (2) Japan actually is built like a theme park in many respects.

Japs are used to having things labeled out and orderly and clean and looking like something out of a travel brochure because that's what they're country is like for the most part.

It's homogeneous and full of Japanese shit, so naturally they assume France will be homogeneous and full of French shit.

This isn't rocket surgery you dumb nigger.

I deal with this shit every day.

>go to vietnam
>take selfies in the designated Tourist Selfie Zone
>never leave the resort except on guided tours
>buy t shirts covered in nationalistic imagery, never thinking about the message it sends in an area with real political issues and complications
>get annoyed when a local acts friendly or wants to talk to you in their bad english
>get played by city girls who use you for your money or papers (the only people who you talk to of course)
>never try any of the things actual vietnamese people do for fun
>go home and tell everyone on facebook how it was soooo amzing to see the third world and how you had a reeeeaaaallly arrrrtherrrrntic experrrruns

Tourists are the worst people in SEA, bar none.

Japan are very welcoming to tourists.

Weeb tourists will probably have a blast there.
But actually LIVING in Japan? Trying to become a part of their society? Well good luck with that.
