it has nothing to do with republicans, it has everything to do with the fact that America is a nation of immigrants with no shared ancestral heritage. In America no one cares where your parents came from, as long as you live here and love America then you're American. Additionally even though we are a majority christian nation the very first thing in the bill of rights says that america can never have an official religion, and that permeates into society as well. Many people are religious but faith is considered a personal matter and no one will hold any ill will against you for practicing in a different way.
In Europe if you are not of the same race as the majority you will forever be an outsider even if you have lived there your entire life. They hold a particular grudge against muslims as the eternal "other" for reasons I'm still not entirely sure of, but I imagine it has to do with the turk being the enemy for so many hundreds of years. That's just a theory though.
