You will find that a majority of kanji have one main useful onyomi reading and one useful kunyomi reading. So don't be scared when people talk about the multiple readings thing. It's not that bad.
My advice as you're learning them is to learn the meaning of the character and then at least two associated vocab words, one that uses the onyomi and one that uses the kun.
Onyomi readings are meme tier, because they're all Shu, jou, chu, chi, qrbiuwtglwgfg.... But if you learn a vocab word that uses it you will learn the onyomi pretty easily I think.

The gyaru trend was at its peak probably in the mid-2000s. You used to see them a lot more back then. It's not completely dead (and actually seems to be going through kind of a revival) but you won't see them much any more.
You can still see them if you go to Camelot or Atom in Shibuya, or the beach like Enoshima and I saw a fair share at Sun Beach in Atami. But it's not like the 2005-2010 heydey.
