If Islam was never conceived- you could potentially see in the region a civilization advanced from "somewhat-less" to "a-bit-more" advanced than Europe.
Reasoning to this are: Arabian tribes that joined the prophet's banner were (in large part, not so unambiguous) wild barbarians that had nothing to civilize them but Islam. This caused a domino effect, that ended with this barbarians marching beyond the Arabian peninsula and taking over the entirety of what is now called the middle east- "ruining" in the process all societies that lived here (resolute of war, forced conversion, immigration, rape, forcing your (lack of) culture, etc.).
In favor of Islam it will be said that at the begging (when the major conquering in the region was done) it experienced a golden age under Baghdad's Halifat that brought many advancements in science and philosophy and lasted for a few centuries. But all of it was reversed and forbidden as it started drifting away from Islam (that has a built-in block to progress beyond a certain point).
Force-convert to Christianity wouldn't undo the damage it has done (elimination of natives, for a big one).
For the prosperity of this place- Islam should have never been invented (or failed to conquer this place).

The Middle East was not peaceful for a single moment for over a thousand years- long before Israel was even an idea and long before oil became a valuable resource.
Despite all explanations and twisting and squirming on the matter, it eventually comes down to 2 factors that will always throw Islam into war- even in a world with no Israel or west or any other empire; Shiites and Jihad.
Hatred between Shiites and Sunnis is far greater than any hate towards Israel or the West, and annually spills more blood in the Middle East than all the conflicts here in the past 100 years put together. And Jihad has far too few, and far too weak peaceful interpretations for it not to be the reason for an endless war (endless until either it, or all position, is eradicated).
A strip of land the size of New-Jersey with no interests in anything around it, or an empire that is long gone, or a colonial regime that abandoned all it had here, or an outside intervention that didn't came out of the blue or a natural resource this land is rich with are going to change anything in this land that knows nothing of peace for more than a millennium.

The Assyrians were renowned for their ability to wage war long distances from their home country/territory. They were also known for their effectiveness in battle and their extreme cruelty towards their enemies.
The Babylonians were similar, albeit didn't have the same reputation for harshness. Although I'm sure you already know about Nebuchadnezzar displacing and enslaving a large portion of the Jews in Judea at the time.
The Persians killed shitloads of people in battles and sieges to form the world's first superpower. They displaced many thousands of Ionian Greeks to quell uprisings in Asian Minor. They burned down Athens when they took it.
