I don't notice this happening very often. If anything it's the Japanese characters being ignorant of America and Europe, probably for comedic effect.

A lot of people in the west automatically associate anime with hentai, tentacle rape, and the like. At least in America there is still a big stigma attached to watching anime, for that reason.

Depends on the anime. You've got rare good watches like the Kara no Kyoukai series of movies or something like Mushishi. Then there's just everything else. It's so hit or miss and most of the stuff isn't good, but then again, that's most forms of entertainment, you have to dig deeper to find the little amounts of truly good things

Well, recently I really liked One Punch Man. It was done well and obviously with a lot of passion behind it. I haven't really watched any other anime this year.
I don't get anything out of just watching cute anime girls do cute things. It doesn't do anything for me. I just don't get the appeal. I do read a lot of manga, but I find anime tends to be just an inferior, often badly adapted form of it that lacks the direction and vision of the artistry behind something that's usually mostly the work of a single author.
