I remember seeing some screencaps of an anon in /k/ talking about all the crazy wars and politics that goes on in there that most people have no idea about, and it got me thinking. Is there something happening right now that we should know about?
Any big wars? genocides? states rising to power?
Finally, is there anyone here who is currently in one of the poorer/more war-torn parts of africa? would like your input

All I know right now is that Burundi is probably heading for civil war and there are currently major protests against ANC leadership in South Africa, with particular focus on president Zuma. I doubt anything significant will come of the latter, black South Africans are too scared to vote for the opposition because they've been brainwashed to think a return to apartheid is an actual possibility if white people return to important positions in government. The ANC will just elect another stooge and the cronyism will continue.

On the global stage Nigeria is the one to watch. Currently the population of Africa is just over 1 billion. By the end of this century Nigeria alone will have a population of 1 billion. Plentiful oil and gas reserves too make Lagos one of the richest cities in Africa. The continuing integration of the East African Federation (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi) is also an interesting one. Tunisia's continuing peaceful transformation to a democratic state is also a rare sign of success in an otherwise bogged down Arab Spring.
