Yeah, but if the grow at rates much higher than Western Europe, they can converge. And economic theory says it should, given said artificial restraint on their economies.

Dunno man when I read about some of them Polish magnates that had private armies larger than the Commonwealth's(a country that never really wasn't at war in it's whole history also had the biggest population in europe untill partitions) I think there was a point when it was richer.

Right now most weaker countries are chained by unsustainable debt, brain drain and the wierd EU "fair play" practices (that promote regional monopolies for some reason).
prosperity is not going to happen anytime soon for people like us, at least through dignified means.
