How did you get over this? I have this idea of how good I want

How did you get over this?

I have this idea of how good I want to be. I can judge if something is good or not. So there is this frustration when I want to make something good but simply can't. Not today, not tomorrow, not in a week and not even this year. So when I am practicing I quickly get frustrated and lose focus and patience. I know there is no way around it but still...

I feel like most people got over this by starting out early before they got really self-conscious about their work and finding enjoyment in the process and not caring about the result.

Any advice?

But how did they get over it? Drawing isn't as mechanical as for example working out where you can just go through the motions. Practice has to be deliberate.

You never get over it. The "where I want to be" goal keeps running ahead of you.

You just make a piece. Figure out what really sucks about it. Study up on that aspect of picture making and correct it or do better on that aspect in the next piece. Find another weakness. Correct it. Over and over. Never stops. Ride the roller coaster of manic depression like any other artist that isn't completely in love with the smell of his own farts.
