also; jesus christ, what happened to this place?
no draw thread on the first page, instead I see "draw your fetish" and porn threads everywhere.

Where she's holding the lantern wouldn't light her face like that--the angles are wrong and it's way too strong and too sharp/directional. The raised arm looks really bad, get ref and redraw.

The thumbnail reads nicely though.

What's the story? What will be in the rest of the image? It feels like the image is missing something.
>>
>>2549377
Light from the lantern wouldn't be that bright on her face. Tone your values by 10% unless it's a really fucking bright lantern.

Also make all the lit parts warmer if it's just a flame and the lantern design doesn't 'neutralize' the light making it more of a white.

Her lantern holding hand and feet are tiny af.
>>
Looks pretty good actually. Like the other anon said the lantern doesn't look like it's casting the right shadows on her face but it looks ok enough that I wouldn't worry about it. She looks like she has a weird face, but not abnormally weird. Like unconventional but still normal. if you want to make the ridge of her nose look smaller though, just add some highlight on the inside of her right eye along the nose ridge going up toward her brow.

Easy peasy.
>>
>>2549397
Lies! it looks fine. Don't change the values op.
>>
>>2549390
It started as a mood study for a school assignment, but I have a tendency to skip out on resolving things very much and instead move on to another drawing, which means that i'm not super comfortable with later stages of a drawing or painting, so i'm trying to just keep going until it looks like something i'm happy with.
>>
>>2549399
OP has to establish just how bright that lantern is. It could be just a small ass flame where the fall off would be really great and where my value idea would work. If it's bright, then yeah his current values might be closer.
>>
OP do you have a blog?. Looks lovely.
>>
Thanks you guys.

Okay, so if i'm hearing everyone, more solidly establish the relationship between the lantern and light source and the light cast?

Also face funny, revisit, and arm super funny, redo.

In terms of anything else structural, that is not related to colour or light, does anyone have anything to add or suggest?

>>2549429
You're much too generous : p.
Not really, or at least, not anything that I've been able to update even semi-regularly.

>In terms of anything else structural, that is not related to colour or light, does anyone have anything to add or suggest?
Her legs and feet are poorly proportioned and drawn, but I didn't notice the first time because they are so lost in the shadows.

I still think the image can use more narrative though. Why is this girl afraid of the viewer? Why is the viewer so short? Where is she? What happened right before this scene?
>>
>>2549445
You're not wrong at all on either point.
They are badly drawn and proportioned, and all art is narrative T_T.
>>
>>2549452
I could put something in the foreground? but I don't want to cheat and obscure the legs and feet because they suck : p.
>>
>>2549452
>all art is narrative
Maybe we are using a different definition of the word. I mean it in the sense that there is some story being told, something is happening or has happened or will happen, and it is being told through the image. Most illustration is narrative. Something like a still life probably isn't.
>>
>>2549455
No i'm agreeing with you. That's exactly what I meant. It just meant it makes me sad that that particularly is an area that is lacking, since that really _makes_ any illustration.
>>
>>2549455
If there's no narrative to draw the viewer in, it's probably a boring image.
>>
>>2549457
>>2549459
Oh okay yeah. That's what I'm saying, you illustration lacks narrative so fails as an illustration and comes across boring and incomplete. Get the point of the image down before you worry about lighting.
>>
>in the dark
>frightened look on her face
>floor pov

the viewer is obviously a dead body
>>
>>2549462
Well that was my thought. I wasn't going to be so explicit, but other guy is definitely right, that it just looks incomplete.
>>
>>2549381
yep, weebs have officially taken over, the contamination boards didn't do their job.

It's almost certainly nostalgia-vision, but when I joined /ic/ I remember tehmeh and mr jack running the place, and weeaboos were ostracised >_>

He posted here? Must have been ages ago, I've been here for years and never knew he posted here.
>>
>>2549472
yeah he did! this might have been 2008 or 9?

I know it may not seem like it, but I am much better now than then. T_T

Great picture. I think this might improve it:

-considering the positions of the waist the legs are slightly too short
- point the feet outwards, it is very unnatural for a human beeing to point them inwards
- make the hands slightly bigger ( almost as big as the face)
- make the skirt slighly more asymmetrical
- considering the extreme light conditions everything that faces the light must be brighter
>>
>>2549469
Yep, that is honestly the only reason this board turned to shit. "Muh style" is a legit way of turning downs crits, but realists get shit on when the perspective of a toenail isn't autistically 100% accurate, except of course if it's porn, then nothing matters except that it's hot.
>>
>>2549769
dat overpaint. Please don't do them if you don't know anything about light and color.

You made all highlights white, which completely ruined the mood and colors
>>
>>2549776
> "Muh style" is a legit way of turning downs crits

Except that literally never happens you whiny faggot. People didn't shit on your "realist" work because the perspective of a toenail was off, but because it looked like crap and the reason why artists like Kukez, ThDark and co get a lot of praise for stylized work is simply because they are good at drawing.

>expecting non-weeb shit on an anime imageboard
>especially on an art board
You know eventually this will happen right? You're lucky /gd/ requires skills otherwise they invade that too.
>>
>>2549796
Where are all these invading weebs though? I see nothing but the usual generic muddy values concept art shit in the draw thread. All the weeb art seems to be concentrated in the stylization general and the porn thread.

Or do you somehow count every single shitpost thread that is started with an anime image?

well at least the shitposting is the same : p

>>2549818
do you think muddy values are something I need to work on specifically? or is that just a general critique of the posts on /ic/

>>2549769
I think I might have started this picture ass-backwards, in that I haven't dealt with the light source at all since I started drawing, but I probably should have sorted that out first, and proceeded on to everything else.

One small thing that might signal that better is turning her raised hand towards herself. With the palm out, it suggests a defensive or placating gesture, like she's scared of being attacked. Whereas palm in, it's more of a shock/disgust gesture of self-comfort.
Other options, curling her fingers/wrist in, in that sort of 'don't touch that' disgust gesture. Or extending her arm further, as if she's trying to help and prevent what's already happened in the shock of it.

Her legs and shoulders are relatively steady too, which can work, but is confusing alongside her expression, and again sort of signals a more defensive gesture to me.
