Something's broken, what do I do?
>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Sorry for the Challenges delay I kept adding these little quality of life changes and that means more fixes and changes and blah. I figured you should be able to see the challenges on the user's profile and whether they completed or abandoned it, there should be icons for the submissions and a mini gallery for each challenge instead of a bunch of links, etc etc. It won't be too much longer

Sorry, I don't redline much.
The one on the right is to show it being a wider head, otherwise it is quite thin compared to the other sizes. I shrunk some things down but it still feels like quite a thickset heavy head, and if that's the case then I'd say you can make the skull shape a bit larger and misshapen at the cranium, especially if you're going for a heavyweight giant type feel.

Oh man thanks to the challenge system I think I figured out how the LAS can evolve beyond the whole week system. It'll take a big rewrite in the beta and all these current features will need to be grandfathered and archived but man the new way will be so much better.
I'll finish up the challenge stuff tonight so tomorrow at the latest so you guys will have something to do while I work on the critique system and then stats but moving into the beta will bring some big changes. I'll talk about them after I finish up the challenges

80% of what I do is traditional and I dunno I don't really clean up lines or try for clean lines unless I want it to look good and I don't really do it. The challenges are done enough to move over to the live site but I've had 5h of sleep in 2.5 days and I'm afraid I've missed something.
I'm going to add a 24h wait from the time challenges are created until they start up so I'll have an extra day to make sure everything's working and finish up the stuff I'm too tired to do now.
You'll be able to create and close your challenges, choose a start and end date, set a description, add rules and people can join/leave challenges.
To-do: have it show up on user profiles and add a gallery for submissions.
Should be ready within the hour. With the 24h delay I'll have 33 hours to sleep, draw to not get eliminated and finish up what needs finishing before the first challenges officially start.

Not an excuse but I had something like that early on.
High school teacher shouted at me in front of the class when I was like 14 for drawings things I wanted to from imagination rather than plants or self portrait studies from observation.
Even though we were between teachers and were told to draw whatever we want for few days.
She shouted at me in front of class and all other classes heard too because it was like 4 classes in one warehouse seperated by shelves.
Told me to keep my doodles for my own time, this isn't what art is for, I should've been doing my 50th self portrait like the teachers pet, or my 100th drawing of a dying fern.
Ripped up all my drawings in front of everyone, straight up tore them into pieces, this decent a3 stack filled with sketches, and dumped them in the bin.
I thought it didn't affect me and forgot about it for ages but today I just do study after study and whenever I doodle or draw from imagination I get nervous and fidgety and keep thinking I should be studying properly.

WebMD is a great way to make yourself a hypochondriac. I say you should get more sleep, minimum of 8 hours a night, that's time spent sleeping not on phone in bed or something, and maybe have lie in since it's the weekend.
You should also spend less time sitting in front of pc/tv/vidya, go outside for a walk every now and then, get some fresh air. Drink more water, that's really important, and having more fruit can help with that too, particularly oranges.
If your health continues to concern you, wether its self fulfilling anxiety about having super ebolaids cancerplague or not, go see a doctor.
The vertigo and such sound more down to general lifestyle but could also be blood, I had it when I was 18 and got tested a bunch for blood sugar levels and such to see if it was a diabetic or anaemic thing but I was fine. Sometimes these things are just things, and best treatment is sleep, water, fruit, and get away from screens and try your best to de-stress a little.

I'm ok, thanks for the concern though familyman. Been bit depressed lately but not sure if that's because of art slump or is the cause of said slump. Thanks to LAS I've got used to the fact that every fortnight or so I have a couple of bad days where nothing I draw goes right, but if I can just endure it then things will start working again and slightly better than before. This slump has been more than a week though, so maybe every few months I'm due a longer one and then there'll be a larger jump in quality after this? I can hope.

As mentioned in the rules you can choose to use references or not. If the references is a movie or a photo is irrelevant - use whatever you want / find interesting.
Though referencing something like animation where the movement can already be very exaggerated might become a crutch for you. You should be able to look at a pose and push the aspects of it that you like yourself. But when starting out there's no harm in seeing how it's been done and learn from it. At least it's something to be aware of.

Alright the challenges are pretty much done enough for now except for having them show up on the user's profile which I'll do after critiques. Future LAS:
The biggest change will be no more weekly LAS and Topic challenges. The focus will be shifted to the "streak." When you login it'll say that you've posted X days in a row and every day you post that number will go up, miss a day and it resets. It'll apply retroactively and tokens won't save your streak.
You'll be able to click on your streak and it'll show "Unlocks" which will show you what you can do on the site. There will be 2 columns where one is for total submissions (earn a critique request at x submissions, create a challenge at y submissions,) and the other for streak (vote in the tribunal at x, vote for topics at y).
The leaderboards will focus on the current streak, topic streak as well as a "participation" stat which will be weighted based on your participation in challenges, the tribunal, critiques, etc. That participation stat will be tricky to figure out because of new vs old scaling it to be fair but that can be figured out. There will also be a "Hall of Fame" that shows the highest streaks and things like that.
The way the new submission form will work: you'll be able to make multiple submissions each day but your streak will increase by 1 regardless of the number. The reason you'll be able to submit multiple is because you'll be able to apply your submissions to a challenge, or multiple challenges, that you've joined. So it you'd paste your link, click on the relevant challenges (or none) and hit submit.
I'm hoping these changes will give an incentive for newer members to stick around. As soon as they submit they'll have new things to do with the promise of more if they keep submitting. They'll also climb the leaderboards as they submit each day and there can be a new elimination for people who break their streak or break a record.

I think the 'retroactive' part here is a huge mistake. You set the rules at the start of LAS and gave people tokens so they could actually use them. There was no indication that it would come back to bite us in 6 months, turning around now and saying "oops, too bad" is pretty lame.
Maybe give everyone a fresh start here if you want tokens to break a streak and leave the flawless meme in the threads. Otherwise everyone that's used a token so far is being punished just for playing by the rules you initially gave us.
It would have been fine if you did this from the start but half a year later is too long to move the goalposts on us. Just my 2c.

I've suggested some controversial changes in the past and the poll results have shown that the opposition is usually a very vocal minority. I don't want to lose anybody with these changes but I also want to do what's best for the site.
Same as before we'll run polls for all the big issues like whether or not the streaks should reset with the new system, which stat should be the focus (streak or participation), whether or not there should be a streak token, etc. I'll embed them in the site like I have in the past to ensure everyone is at least aware of the changes and have a chance to vote so don't go poll crazy
