hey!! i don't think anything is terribly wrong in particular, though the posing is maybe a little dull. there's nothing really being said with this image, you know what i mean? it's like they are both just standing beside each other holding hands, only looking at each other through the corner of their eyes. if it's supposed to be romantic, you gotta put in some emotion!! it kinda looks like they were paired together for like an activity where you have to hold hands or something-- altho if that's what you were going for, not bad, man.

try and ramp up the acting in the scene and the intimacy between the characters. the way that they're both leaning away from each other makes it sort of look like they're not really interested in one another, and both of their posing is really neutral. i would bring em together if they're really familiar with each other, or emphasize the space between them if they've only been dating for a short while. the arms and hands are great storytelling tools, even something as simple as putting her hand behind her back would change a lot! don't be afraid to really push your gesture when you're in the sketching phase, hammering out all of the anatomy and junk can come after your story is reading well. i drew up some potential ideas for storytelling poses as an example of what i mean. and maybe none of these are the stories you want to tell with your image-- which is fine!! but whatever you ARE trying to say with your drawing should be made more clear, because right now it's just a neutral, static image of two people holding hands, ya feel me? establishing the kind of relationship they have and making it clear to the viewer is important because i have no idea who these characters are and have no real reason to care for them.

i dunno. you draw well enough, so i think it would be interesting to bring some kind of narrative into your drawings to push them to the next level. play around a bit!!

The character is leaning too far over, the bloody foot is the wrong shape, The eye is wrong and the nose and mouth of the face have a blocky shape.
The gun looks really out of proportion to the rest of the character and the hand is just hovering there like a Liefeld fist.
>>
>>2414020
I agree with:>>2414513

They are just standing there not looking at each other or anything in particular? They don't really feel like a couple. Injecting a story into your drawing will breathe new life into it.

Also, be careful of his pecks, because they seem kinda low or maybe his nipples are too high?

I got a question on stylize faces.

How come, when people go for "cute" characters and add the cheek fat, they have the cheek awfully low and close to the line of the mouth. Where did this come from and how? I see this a lot in animu.

Oh nice, thanks for those.

By the way, another thing that I see a lot even outside of animu is that when characters have these cute faces, at times their eyes are very far spaced apart. I'm wondering how this is measured, since most of the time you're finding the relationship between the "3rd eye", but some eyes are shaped as ellipses and to find that 3rd eye seems 'different'.

Drawing is hard especially when you dont have a drawing tablet and your work station is flooded (RIP living in tropical countries)

also My Epson L210 got destroyed by it.
have been practicing on animu, its pretty hard and strange but I should be used to it by now~

Drawing in A4 paper sometimes makes it hard to draw anything other then concepts- (Its just too small, that's what she said~)

Looks good, are you the guy who does the tower girls too?

Wrap the hand around the roundness of the mast, and since your shadows are going horizontally it seems her hand should mostly be in shadow. Also try adding ambient occlusion to the area between her hand and the mast and under her feet.

Maybe having hooves would be better to get the point across? Lower the ear position too and bring it closer to the eyes like a real sheep. But imo, the downwards snoot of a sheep is pretty essential in understanding it's a sheep lol. It could still look cute, try experimenting with it more or maybe don't make it as long as a sheep's really would be. I like the hair design, it's fun.

I don't have the book which I copied it from but here's my drawing.

The human body is based on curves, see the curved lines drawn to the right? You can paint quite good, just study the human body.
>>
>>2417546
its great to see youre getting closer to 1:1 proportions with 0 perspective, however, you still completely ignore the natural flow of elements and asymmetry in the human body. Take the side view for example. The neck actually bends forward the torso actually leans back the first leg is top heavy and the second leg is back heavy. This creates balance through imbalance.

Theres also what i call the "show less know more", by that I mean you should show less of certain features to show you know more, an example of this is your lineweight accross the drawing. It is much too thick in many areas ( the abs being the most obvious area.)

Finally,

Exactly it's like complaining about 3/4 view heads.

Sure a bad artist will draw nothing but 3/4 girl heads facing the left but that doesn't mean a good artist has to be constantly contriving weird angles to view heads from. Some things just werk

Really nice, the buildings have a lot of character.
I'm not sure if this is intentional, but the sky seems a little off to me. At the top of the picture it's brighter than towards the horizon. It should be the other way round, with atmosphere and everything.

What's the best way to practice settings? Draw and paint from reference? Find a real-world equivalent of most of the elements and draw it till I understand it?

And after that, is painting the backgrounds just a matter of learning textures?

(Also, how's the girl?)
>>

I see plenty of feet where one is pointing forward and the other faces an outward direction, and it matches up to what I've seen when you police other people's art. if you suddenly have some pedantic definition that only you understand, then I, and everyone else, should care even less when you bitch at others to conform to your arbitrary preferences.

I learn to use my entire arm to draw, even on a teensy sketchbook, but then I can't on a tablet because the Wacom's surface grips my skin like nothing else. I can't even draw digital for long because of that, my wrist just hurts after 30 mins

That gun is very badly drawn, it's not very accurate. I almost feel like you took reference of the SVD and then got bored of looking at it. You see where you made the guy holding the grip? You made the receiver way too long, as if to hide the butt stock of the gun. (see reference, where he is holding the grip.) The mag is out of perspective and you kinda just slapped the barrel and iron sights on there without thinking fully of the ref. As others have said, fix the person himself. Your coloring is going somewhere, that's good but, you need to learn basic anatomy outside of animu because your person's weight is leaning like he's gonna fall on his face soon.

You should look into manga instead. Anime is cheap and most of the time its art is made specifically to be drawn easily and quickly, hence the large amounts of sameface.

The same can be applied towards manga (especially weekly series) but some artists do go out of their way to draw different ethnicities like Naoki Urasawa, Atsushi Kaneko and Tomoko Ninomiya.

This is an interesting question. You just have to explore what works and what doesn't. Personally, I like to start out thinking of what defines race like this:
>skull structure
>skin tone
>size/shape/placement of features
Oddly enough, anime discards pretty much all of this. We see asian characters as white over here and the line between asian and white characters is remarkably small in anime.

However, you can still make a character look a specific race if you tap into people's reference pools. Obviously, if you give a character dreads and very dark skin, people will think the character is black, for example. If you put a slick, black haired person in a school outfit, people will assume the character is Asian. This works, but it limits how far you can actually push things. Once you leave that pool of reference (like say you wanted to give a black girl character straightened hair that's purple or something) the character begins to look ambiguous. They would just be a brown girl.

Never tell people how much someone is paying for a private commission, they're the competition
>>
>>2423130
when depth is important avoid tangents, when it can be flattened for style purposes use tangents
avoid excess lines, implied lines are your friends
ultimately go with what feels right

i really like the entirety of hiroyuki imaishi's work and onta/doxy's lines. i remember reading something onta said a long time ago about line economy in that "every line should be doing more than one thing", it's not right 100% of the time but a good idea to keep in your head
>>
>>2423387
wage transparency benefits those getting paid the money
>>
>>2423400
How so?
>>
>>2423411
the implication >>2423387 is making is that the online private art commission industry (for lack of a better term) competition is based around the price you charge per piece and not the skill and/or style with which you can execute such pieces (as well as your name recognition)

going "oh, i charged $90 for this piece" isn't gonna cause you to get undercut by other artists charging only $80 per piece, you almost certainly got that commission because the commissioner likes the way you draw, keyword: you.
sure, you might have copycats who do cheaper commissions than you, but virtually all of them will be eternally behind you skill/style wise because they're just aping what you already did, not to mention that if you're at the level of notoriety that this is actually happening you most likely have more commission requests than you know what to deal with (and also probably able to charge a rate that doesn't get insanely low once you divide it by the actual amount of hours you work each piece)

and this isn't even getting into how you should avoid the crab in a barrel mentality in regards to how much other artists can charge per piece. good rule of thumb: they shouldn't be getting paid less, you should be getting paid more. i know you've probably run into a few assholes who complain about how much someone charges for a commission like $100 is wayyyy too much and they're jus a greedy bastard, but if they actually saw how much people in say the comics industry get paid per piece they'd realize that person is giving them an insanely cheap price, especially if they knew how criminally underpaid people in the comics industry are. most people usually understand when you break down how many hours it takes you per piece and they realize how low that per hour price comes out to be tho.

tl;dr unless you're in the business of fuckin people outta money, being transparent about how much you charge and why will get you paid more, or at least more people willing to pay.
