the brush/pattern along the snake belly is pretty lazy (snake bellies don't look like that), and just draws attention to the complete lack of texture nearby (where are the scales)
anatomy could use some brushing up on as well, the neck area is weirdly undefined, same as the hips

her eyes are too far apart and go in completely opposite directions, the angle in which we're viewing the eye doesn't match the angle in which we're viewing the face. Her eyebrows are too high up and shes missing half of her skull. The neck is too small and short. The necklace is flat and lacks a sense of form.

yeah unfortunately there's some details i missed out on because the session ended like the pattern on his bandana and stronger values for the whole thing but i'm gonna leave it as it is. im going to another model drawing session in an hour so if i have anything good from there ill post it.

>it's cool! i think the bottom half of the ship needs some clarification.. not reading clearly.
agreed but I'd like to move on from it I don't like the color I chose for the background i should've made the water and the sky siennas and umbers like I did for the ship ( would've given it a more rustic, atmospheric look) but I wanted to try complimentary colors again. It's just... idk. It's so kitsch looking. I get that it makes things pop more but in the future I think I'm gonna stick with making the background the same colors as the subject because it just looks better to me. Even if it's a little more illustration-y.

really liking this, yet pants look bit veiny. Somewhere the outlines go bit nuts, but I think you'll get around it soon.

This is still wip, but kinda ok. I really need to start constructing these more better, now that I don't even have a eraser. Some clear issues with perspective.
>>
>>2410890
I'd say you need to work on your outlines more than >>2410707 does. A bit heavy handed there.

It's still cool though, I like the mono chrome and subtleness of the rendering.

This image makes no sense and is pretty much useless. What is the guy sitting on. Where in her body? You should show it on the ground. Were there more people killed? Her glasses would not remain on her face. Why is there a guy enraged and engaging in an attack? Who is he fighting? Are these 2 characters in one scene together? If so, why is one laughing and chilling while another is moments from striking. Sitting guy would have been killed.
Characters are silly ugly. Ugly is good, but these guys are like, godsmack metal music silly. All in all, this picture is a jumbled bunch of nonsense with no story telling or good composition.

The angle of the arm holding the ball lookin green mound is cool. The highlight on the forearm is my favourite area of your piece. The most awkward looking bit of the foreground figures body is the neck/ shoulder region. I don't know what to recommend except doing quick figure studies daily as practise, of the whole human form... in particular I would like to see you practise drawing more heads n necks. Faces and hair.

The layout of the general piece is cool as well. The background figure being surrounded by that lightness creates great depth, you should polish up that witchy lookin chick in the back because it'd be a shame to scrap the progress, finish whatcha started baby.

He doesn't need defending, his work speaks for itself. Brian doesn't know what he's talking about, that much was obvious when he said 4six can't color alone. Anyone who's seen his environments knows better than that. He's just looking for someone to get into a stupid argument with and it's better to not humor it.
>>
>>2411607
>environments

Mind enlightening me as to when he's ever posted legitimate illustrations? It's pretty much a fact the only thing he ever draws is veiny, grotesque, naked men and women with various weapons and armor; which is cool, but it's pretty silly to suddenly think he can paint and render realistically to the same degree from imagination just because he's good at drawing veins and muscles.

Her body - mostly the torso - looks like stretched rubber. If it helps, draw the base forms of the skeleton on its own layer. Get the skull, ribcage an pelvis accurate in their proportions and indicate major plane changes. Pay attention to the viewer's eye level so that you get the perspective right too.

I know you said no ref, but it looks like you referenced a poorly shopped model from a magazine for that torso.
>>
>>2411602
4xis here, why would I need any defense ? I just posted a not even half finished illustration and people seem to take it as a whole finished product, they also don't really know who are the characters and the context of the illustration. I'm not saying there's no mistake in it, but I don't really care that a guy who draws 80 yo paraplegic women doesn't like my stuff.

I do admit that I'm still at my first illustrations, I've been sketching and learning my fundamentals until now, and you improve by experimenting I guess.

also, I know i've been on it for a long time, but I just can't find time to draw, not like I'm on it every day and adding a line by day.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the head not look like I sewed it on the neck? The painting is supposed to be Laika floating in space and the lil' fucker's neck is white and I just can't find a solution on how to make that show while also keeping consistency from one part to the other. On one hand her neck is too brown compared to her actual colours, but on the other hand her head would look even more disconnected if I made it lighter. Lighting source is upper right.

No anon, you're why this board is shit. Every time there's an even moderately good poster who starts getting compliments shitposters like you start dogpiling them and thus the people most capable of helping all of you improve are driven away time and time again. I'm only talking about 4xis here not the copy machine. The one good thing about this trend is that at least those who've outgrown this place get a clear notification of it and the chance to move on to better venues.

I know you want to misconstrue my words to make this into a strawman argument but I'll be clear. I'm obviously not talking about everyone who gets a bad critique, I'm not even talking about bad critiques at all. I'm talking about when a clearly skilled artist gets shit on for no reason, and don't even try to say most of those replies were close to good or bad critiques and weren't just attacks. 4xis has done absolutely nothing different from when I first saw him to now in terms of the attitude he presents when he's posting yet there's been a sudden total 180 of the reception of his posts and the only event I note as being different from usual was a small increase in positive replies to his work. Tell yourself whatever you want about how good he is or isn't but he's not the only one it's happened to, the pattern's clear. Those who really are shit just get ignored. /ic/ always turns on those who figure it out instead of learning from them.

except you guys have bad taste. usually whenever one of these "good" artists shows up they are lacking in key areas. that's where critiques stem from. people polishing turds that focus on one area rather than all areas at once, and all fall into the "muh style" category

her face is fine. The expression looks more happy / exited though and I'm not sure if that's what you were going for. Her back arm is twisted really awkwardly and almost looks dislocated. The ears on your characters might be a little small, remember that the lobes should start at the bottom of the nose and the tips should be at the eyebrows. Other than that, the colors and lighting, figures and faces are really good. GJ anon.

You're completely full of shit. Being a good artist doesn't mean being perfect, and having flaws doesn't make them not a good artist. The ones we're talking about are obviously skilled, plain to see for anyone with eyes, and the so called critiques given to them are usually nothing more than hairsplitting nitpicks with the incredibly transparent, petty intent to say 'you're not as good as people think you know :p' A good critique suggests areas for improvement that keep to the artist's goal for the picture. A bad critique tries to do the same, but the person lacks the knowledge to be effective. Posts that boil down to "i don't like your style" are just a childish way to throw shade and you're not fooling anyone by calling it a critique.

he needs to learn color and not work black and white in linework. he needs to get away from copying refs and draw from life. he needs to shade and put value on every drawing. this isn't rocket science. the guy that drew DRAVEN HEAD 3 is practicing wrong. it has less to do with critiquing the drawing he posted and more with critiquing the idea that he is doing drawings like that in the first place.

>just outlines no color or value
>anatomy learned from reference photos and done from imagination
>continued absence of life drawing based on what he's been posting and how long he takes on each one
>polishing turds

and then he comes into the thread and says "I don't need defending" assuming everything everyone is saying is an attack and they are just jealous.

You keep trying to make it just about 4xis but it's not, it's about how this exact same cycle keeps happening to tons of different artists who all work in different styles and have different strengths and weaknesses but one thing in common and that is they're obviously good. Maybe not perfect, maybe not even pro, but good. It's painfully obvious by what you keep saying there's no validity to your "critique". You haven't paid attention if you think he never does color or life drawing. And saying he's taking too long on something just because he spaced it out between a number of days is nonsense. Besides, someone, probably you trying to stir the pot, asked where his defenders are and he was clearly replying to that so don't try and pull that bs saying he was being defensive out of nowhere. I'm done arguing with you Brian. You fucking suck, he's better than you, and he will go on to greener pastures than you'll ever see with your head stuck up that camwhore's crusty cumcatcher.

when you're painting, you should paint with some kind of neutral colour or tone in the background as opposed to pure white because it can affect which colours you pick! especially if the ref already has a BG. have you seen those optical illusions where they put a small red square in a larger green square and vice versa? it's sort of like that-- having you background as white can skew how you view your colours.
>>

kek, even though you draw a page of hands everyday, his first hands drawings are still much better than your E.T hands.

>>

honestly they really dont, what you fail to understand is you are just drawing lines as opposed to form, if you look at the middle right hand it is painfully obvious you lack skill. You're roughly at 60% of his skill.

its true that brian isn't 100% and sometimes his style breaks his hands, but you're confusing drawing by comparing and taking vast amounts of time as opposed to drawings by mass addition.

I can literally redline all of your hand without reference, but i cant do so for brian.

I'm used to more active boards, I should've noticed that this board was slow

Also, should I post it in the alternative art thread? I don't think it's symbol drawing, I got a lot of realistic drawings here that are really different from these >>2413612 , but I prefer to draw like that. I never draw lips because I think it gives a better look overall, and also I draw pointy triangle noses because it looks better

It's not that i'm not accepting your advice, I just prefer that stylization. I don't think it would look better if he had a realistic nose and a mouth with lips. It is obvious that I'm a begginer, and when I posted that I wanted shading, or anatomy tips

This is a shitty drawing but I think you can get what I meant

>>2413646
Your "style" just looks like inexperience so i'd lurk the the beg thread some more

I know I messed up the top one, but how about the two bottom ones, do they even look like girls?
>>

>>2413701
nah don't worry about loomis. I'd say draw this pose out like 10+ more times but don't labour on it. It looks really unnatural rn , gesture is important. Bodies can still look good and natural when the anatomy isn't perfect but you need that gesture man.

do it.

The balance of the figure is off.
The knees, hands and toes are dividing the balance, yet your upper body is launched forward as if all your balance was on either the knee or the hands alone, or she was being pulled up by the arms; shoulders are probably too high up.

I mean it's probably physically possible to achieve this exact position, but it looks forced and pointless, not something you'd ever want to capture in a still representation

there is a whole lot wrong with the anatomy here and i was hoping i could get some help / advice before i go on

(not a critique but I'm also doing the same thing)
Isn't the neck muscle too pronounced for being a female/teen? At least it seems to me like it'd be a female teen
>>
>>2413826
Both yes and no, for the toned version I simply blocked out the the big planes of muscle and bone, if I went for a more finished look, I would need to smooth it out.
Females can have neck muscles that are clearly shown, but it does look more feminine and elegant the smoother and longer their neck is.

You just have ask yourself if your drawings look too masculine and or not, and then make changes accordingly.

How I make my black and white drawings less dull, I think they look so boring.
>>
>>2413776
let me guess, you like krenz.
>>2413646
i can guaranty youre symbol drawing because you drew the eyes a nose, a smile, but didnt fit the time in to do construction, the rest of the head or the second eye or the neck.

Just trust me. do some form studies and youll see.
>>
>>2413879
Probably the easiest and fastest way to add interest to a black and white drawing is have really high contrast and place the darkest areas around the composition in different sizes, shapes, and angles.
>>
>>2413886
In other words, I should draw backgrounds as well or just learning how to ink to add more black would be enough? Because I'm drawing mostle black and white faces, nothing else.

Even when it's just a face or a figure the technique works. It's all about fitting dark spots within the space you're using. It's something I've been wanting to learn to do better too, I made an inspiration map of artists who do it well. You can look up some of these guys and see how they approach it.
>>
>>2413894
Good idea man, I should just search for reference. Thank you! It's a nice sheet you made.
>>
>>2413899
Thanks and you're welcome. Looking up reference can be a pain but sometimes it's just what you need. Even when you know what you're going for, you can get ideas from it you never would've come up with, I'm learning that more and more these days.
>>
>>2413905
I see. Just looking at this I feel inspired. And I feel like I can come up with something nice. Wish you best of luck, bro. May we become the gods of BW one day!

Loomis arm muscles description was difficult to understand. So I decide to go through Hamptons Figure Drawing (a lot easier). If ic know other easy to understand anatomy books/guidlines, please share.
