Practice. Trying to improve.
>>2335825
Probably because it's only an hour's work.
>>2335645
It's not the beginner's thread,
the purpose is to SHOW what you've done in the last hour, not to get critique to improve.
On another note, here's my drawing of a witch. I haven't done much full body anatomy, so any critique that improves my anatomy would be appreciated.
I am currently working through Loomis
>>2335849
Woops, was browsing through page 1 of /ic/ and didn't even think to look at OP's post. I've deleted my last post (>>2335853).
>>2335849
>any critique that improves my anatomy would be appreciated
Why are you asking for this in this thread?
You've just said that beginner's thread would be a better choice when looking for critique, since
>the purpose (of this thread) is to SHOW what you've done in the last hour, not to get critique to improve
>>2335552
My faces don't seem to improve whatsoever
Thoughts on my errors? tips?
>>2335827
Well heres what I've got.
I've assumed "Trying to improve" means I can critique a bit. 1 is your drawing, 2 is what I assume your construction was, 3 is how I would have done it, and 4 is just a comparison.
A - > Right Shoulder seems too wide
B -> Hip area seems very odd with how the thighs are placed
C -> Head doesn't seem to have space to fit inside the hair
D -> The bend here and the rest of the torso seems to imply 3/4ths, but the armor implies straight on?
>>2335860
I'm posting this here because *I actually did it in the last hour* which is the point of the thread. And, while the point isn't for critique, you're still allowed to ask for it. The OP doesn't say "No critique", just "None if they don't ask for it.".
I'll post this on the beginners thread and ask for critique there I guess.
ecig and some faces
>>2335868
Drawing guidelines won't help if you don't measure at all. Either you cropped that photo really badly or that head is squished to hell. Not to mention it looks like you proceeded to ignore the guidelines you drew anyway.
Take a few minutes to actually plan your drawing out. The point of doing construction isn't to slap it down in 2 seconds to show everyone you tried, it's to make sure everything is in the right place before you add details.
>>2335868
practice loomis heads, then study the human skull. go through all of prokos videos on the head and do 100 drawings for each video

>>2335877
you think it's a better idea change the rule for the next thread to where you have to say if you DON'T want a critique ?
>>2335924
IDK, the board Artwork / Critique.
It comes down to whether more people say "I want critique" than people who don't in pure efficiency terms, though.
>>2335924
Yes, that's exactly what I think.
>>2335877
Thanks, this is very helpful.
>>2335924
No. The idea is to have a no-pressure thread for just sharing art and doodles. Not everything has to be all academic all the time. Sometimes it's nice to just be able to look at people's doodles and things they do to cool off or warm up, it opens an avenue for other art related discussions. Anyone who has a serious piece they want help on can go to the beginner or draw threads to get full critique, but there's nothing wrong with having a place to just see what people are up to without worrying about getting ripped apart, feeling obligated to offer crit, or feeling discouraged if your pic gets ignored by critiquers. And having no crit as the default means a less cluttered thread. A post with text asking for crit stands out more among just image posts than every post saying no crit and looking for one saying pls crit.
>>2335885
thoughts?
>>2335552
I was hoping I'd get a chance to do the next OP so I could get rid of the "Go Fast" part I added to the copypasta to go with the Sanic pics. Next OP will get it I'm sure.
>>2335953
>Not everything has to be all academic all the time.
Guess who's not going to make it.
>>2335985
It's really amusing how much that one little "rule" upsets people here. It's almost as if like a baby, the only way you can think of to understand things is by sticking them in your mouth and chewing on them or tearing them apart. Set it out of your reach and you only want to get at it more. You just can't accept that somethings just aren't for you, you just have to put your grubby little hands on everything. It's kinda cute. Kinda.
>>2335636
>Scumbag Steve
>90 minutes
Worst post in the thread.
>>2335985
You? in the contemporary art world the academic is almost frowned on. Perfect 1:1 oil paintings aren't interesting any more. Not that anyone itt will make it, but don't pretend that it's the 1920's any more.
Pic related. Karin Mamma Andersson. One of Swedens most bankable artists. This painting is about 1x1.1 metres and is valued/sold at a million bux.

>>2336003
not the person you're replying to but if >>2335849
is yours, you are in serious need of practice, study and fundimentals. calling something a doodles thread is the weirdest way to stave off judgement and beg to compliments. you dont just post art online unless you want a reply, and if you've made critique the uncalled for thing then what you're expecting is someone to come along and boost your confidence. Please, go be 15 somewhere else
regarding your drawing, its painfully obvious how bad you are at drawing. calling it a doodle doesnt magically erase the amateur quality of every aspect of it. and for the love all that is holy, don't redline things >>2335877
you are not helping, you have no idea what you're talking about
>>2336043
I haven't posted any art in this thread, nor any critiques or redlines yet, the post you just replied to was only the second post I've made this thread, the first one explaining the purpose of these threads being the first.
The bottom line is this: there are consistently half a dozen threads where people are humbly lining up their work for your target practice. If you want to whine that there's one thread that isn't for that and how much you feel oppressed by it (despite the fact that nobody is actually stopping you from criticizing things posted here) there are two Feels threads right now where you can cry over it, or you can take it to tumblr with the rest of the self proclaimed victims.
>>2336043
First off that's not me.
Second off, I was only answering a question for someone else, and actually asked for critique on my art, which I would appreciate rather than merely "work on fundamentals", which I'm doing because as you pointed out,
my work still has that sort of "amateur" feeling to all the fundamentals. Even telling me which specific fundamentals to work on.
Critique is meant to be constructive. If you can't add anything other than "Do more fundamentals" then at least say "Read the sticky".
And if no-one else is helping the guy at least I'll try to point out what I can. If you want to give him separate advice you're free to do so.
>>2336079
>And if no-one else is helping the guy at least I'll try to point out what I can. If you want to give him separate advice you're free to do so.
its like watching a blind person explain to another blind person what color is
>>2336029
Working on it.
>>2336043
By the way, not leaving a critique doesn't mean the only other reply you can leave has to be a compliment. You can ask about what they've drawn, what materials they've used, and maybe suggest a good tutorial or book that talks about similar techniques as what they've used or an artist they might be interested in studying because of similarities you've noticed. Maybe someone posts some characters they're designing that interest you and you ask about the story or what they intend to do with the characters. There are more ways to discuss art than just technical execution, and these threads leave breathing room for that. Not seeing the value in that is truly short-sighted.

you're doing these anatomy studies but you're not focusing on just one thing for the study. bodies in tougher to draw positions, a few hands, a face.
focus on learning how to construct the body instead of drawing it how you think it needs to be. Once you're comfortable with that move into these harder to draw views like foreshortening.
also break free of the chicken scratching. it looks bad.
>>2336757
thanks anon
>>2336751
It's great that you're playing with depth and volume.
You'll have an easier time if you base your perspectives on "real" objects. Mess around with shapes that correspond to body parts and build details from there.

How do I add contrast without just adding black lines?
I feel like the nose is working best because of the dark shadow, but where else can I put it? I guess I need to have a clearer light source?
Didn't mean for her to look like Roon Roon.
>>2337442
Contrast is achieved by using contrasting values, the values on your picture are all very similar shades of grey, squint your eyes and look at your picture, do you realize that everything just looks kinda the same? Now squint your eyes at pic related, don't you see how even squinting, you can clearly see the shapes? You gotta make your values more extreme, the shadows darker and the lights lighter, I would recommend just doing studies of Sargent's portraits in black and white and it will start making sense.
