Remember the words of our good friend Glen Vilppu: “No rules, just tools.”

neck hurts, going to take a break
i will fix the boot when I get to it, btw

oh, mu animu is opening, feeling more ashamed of using normal paper now
>daily reminder:
to edit pics and write the thread tittle on them!

I'ts clear you're the guy who did that skeleton with ramen, eficient forms and quality line art, going good, you should try dynamic poses and foreshortening
Continued this sketch, also thanks for all your help with the other piece, I'm honestly ashamed for all the details I overlooked.
>>2240354
When was the last time you actually made any progress, Firez?
>>2240354
Do you try, Firez?
>>2239730
I don't actually feel uninspired. Just feel really tired and terrible when i start to draw almost immediately, but I feel very bad if I'm not drawing either.
it's a viscous cycle
>>2240354
you'r values on the face are symbolic and not related to the forms and light, use reference to support your brain, even if it's not related with your pose, use it to understand values of faces, even if it's darker on the nose bridge, it's not that way, to support with references is the standard and eificient way to work, using references does not mean to copy things
your hair reads really well, eyes lack some forms on skin around them
nose holes is what makes noses pretty, dont avoid those
shadow under bottom lip is important
from cheecks to mouth line to chin everything in the face is going convex to deeper, so it takes less light, with front happens but with harder edges, due to hair casting shadow
mind putting your characters doing something more than "standing" "cold staring somewhere in the infinite" or "posing like an instagram idiot chick", you will enjoy it more

Firez, have you ever drawn someone with an actual facial expression? I wanna see if you can.
>>2240272
How do you guys go from a sketch to a finished image? I made a gif from one of my recent drawings to expain to someone else, but I'm always interested in learning new stuff.
>>2240493
is that shaggy?
>>2240493
How is the red pencil incorporated into your drawing workflow, just out of curiosity?
>>2240496
I just draw a simple sketch first. I obviously draw and redraw and the finished sketch is usually a lot messier than that, but I tried to keep it simpler so it was easier to ink straight away.
I simply used red so it would be easier to trace with black.
>>2240495
It's just a random animuh character (I wouldn't even call it an OC), I was testing Clip Studio Paint.
>>2240493
where does that that BG at the end come from? i think i've seen yoshikazu use similar ones and i've been wondering wether those are built in CSP materials. couldn't find them so far though.
as for process, mines pretty much the same up to the inking
How does one become more loose when drawing?
>>2240525
imo you definitely don't need to become more loose. you're already plenty that. you should rather focus on the opposite: being clean and tight.
>>2240521
I added a sky blue gradient, and above that I used a CSP tone material (volcanic explosion, I think--I'm not at the computer right now to check).
Since that material came in black dots, I rasterized it and used level adjustements to make it white.
After that I just used one of the focus lines tools and set the lines to white.
I du

I dont know what to fucking think anymore
>>2240546
Wouldn't this just mean it's noticeably derivative, in your personal way? It isn't a massive contradiction.
>>2240549
Brother/Sister i have no idea. I have only two sides: Those who VEHEMONTLY hate my stuff and others that pay me ludicrous amounts of money to draw for them. If i suck, then people wouldnt commission me. If i dont suck, then why do people scream that i do? Its a constant contradiction.
>>2240550
:'/ I don't have a clue about how to get comisions like those :(
guess I have to make more quantity to gain views
>>2240528
okay sure, so how do you become more tight? Any videos or written guides on the subject, or is it just experience?
>>2240569
i think it has something to do with "purpose". yours feel too "random".
basically, loose doesn't mean random. the lines need to have more purpose, think of gesture, aesthetic shapes etc.

>>2240712
are you trying to post that old piece to prove or redeem yourself?
being able to paint and draw a pretty face is not an indicator of skill. and it is suspicious, almost as if you were heavily inspired by another piece (as in ripped off/referenced), considering that the overall, average quality of your work is much much less than this singular piece.

a lot 2d-ish, but it's pretty cool right now, the main problem I see is feet shapes, try to make that with 3 dimensions, atm it seems you inverted right on the left, and that's not natural position for feet
shoulders are also weird, it's unbeilable to be clothing with that pointy shape, try a different solution for that
>>2241750
I see what you're saying as far as the feet, that's something I can fix. I didn't notice the shoulder thing right away, but I think if I lifted her left shoulder a bit and fixed the angle then that would help? Thanks!

Yo girls body is janky.
Her torso is too big/her lower body is so small.
The legs are messed up in the sense the thighs sop less than halfway down and then the calves start and even then they are really skinny.
and the feet aren't positioned right.
>>2241865
Motorcycle linework is excellent, but nothing else about it is.. However, the back wheel is not in plane with the front wheel. The entire motorcycle appears to need several box references for structure. The radiator is obviously crooked. Posts in the background are not cylindrical and each of them is cut at an angle. The shadows are cut straight which conflicts with their roundedness.
For the figure, the breasts are too low. The goggles are asymmetrical. One of the feet curves downwards and the other curves outwards and overall there isn't a good sense of stability there. Face is decent but the ballcap is oversized and doesn't fit the skull.
>>2241865
the torso anatomy looks kind of weird and her lower legs are very long compared to her upper legs.

right tit (it's left) is smaller than the left one (it's right)
the head, arms, rigbcage, shoulders (basically whole uper torso aside for the tits needs work), and feet are too small compared to the pelvis and legs
I suggest proko for perspective drawings, and loomis for human figure drawing. Great idea and nice lines though.
>>2241865
Feet are completely fucked, the front wheel of a motorcycle does not rest like that (use a reference of a motorcycle actually being set like you want to in your pic).
Other than these mistakes in the details, your planes are illogical. That is the very basic of your drawing, so it's normal stuff comes out in random perspectives at times.
I think you should kick back a little with the details for now, and focus a lot on setting up a coherent perspective, maybe use some basic shapes, like a city, or sets of stairs being inclined in different angles/directions, or ramps in general.
If you don't get this first step right, everything that follows will be wrong.
>>2242511
I like it, sketches or studies for something else.
>>2242537
thank you, like your expressive drawing

>>2242808
figure is decent although the wrists are a tad thin.
Pose is completely unsuited to firing anything ever and the blunderbuss is missing a receiver, or trigger, or really anything that would help it fire anything at all.
Also, the stock isn't being used, although this is a perfectly valid stylistic choice.
tl;dr watch a couple videos of people shooting shit on youtube
>>2242809
Yeah, I came in knowing that this isnt the most realistic pose, but I thought the pose might look neat so something something rule of cool something.
as for the gun parts and the wrists- will add.
>>2242824
Rule of cool lies somewhere between nonsensical and realistic. This almost looks silly. Guns aren't feather dusters.
>>2242833
I dont think that it will bother most non /k/ people (would like more opinions on that).
still, do you think making the gun's stock super long and thus making her use it help? I mean its not a realisitc weapon as is.
its just that i like this pose is all, and i dont want to make the gun into a shitty sword or something.
>>2242866
Make it an oversized pistol or something without a stock.
I'm not even the guy you're replying yo and I think its weird. In this day an age of shitty FPS games most people would call you out on it.

>>2240272
What is a great book to learn about an alternative style?
>>2242740
She looks like such a dipshit, I like. The color scheme is a bit muddy but I LOVE the linework and overall character design
>>2243586
you don¡t simply learn style, you just take things you like, round yourself with references to inspire you how to solve the drawing rather than copying the gesture, face, expresion, colors or w/e
style is consequence of your understandings/flaws and influences, you don't really need to read a book, everyone have different tastes so just use yours
>>2243591
Makes sense. Currently learning strictly the fundamentals (a lot of figure drawing, learning value, perspective, etc) and was just wondering when the subject of "style" comes in.
But I do see what you mean. When I quickly draw in an eye during gesture drawings, I tend to put "points" at each end of the eye, kinda giving it a semi triangle shape. I've gotten feedback on it that it looks fine, but it is something I feel works.
>>2243591

How can you tell?
How do yall go around finding artists with a certain 'style'?
I love this rounder animeish style but other than grinding through thousands of different drawings in hopes of finding an artist with a similar style I can't think of a way of pin pointing styles.
Is there a way I'm missing or is brute forcing the only way of doing it?

Anon, I was asked a question so I replied with an image that seemed relevant.
Also as far as I know this forum is for critique that is why I post my shitty stuff so the next one is less shitty.
>>2245443
I tried
>>2245443
firez, I overpainted and fixed that face some time ago, you didn't applied any feedback, nose and mouth position are still wrong, imagine vertical grid over her face, from eyes to jaw, your nose location is next to one eye and far from the other, happens the same with the nose, her mouth-nose-jaw are way too forward, the overall body didn't turned out bad, but your light and coloring did, you have that window but your light source is not related with the scene, your light source with that bg was so clear to do and you failed hard trying to solve it
your grays are still visible, play with color temperature and push saturation on midtones to make the render better
black thick outlines are awful, you can keep outlines, but moderate their thickness, interior and exterior curvatures and even darkness, keep that outlines on the background, otherwise you have a common mistake which is different styles (due to edges) on the same painting, even inside the outlines, as you don't use htat kind of lines on the parts that pop out a bit more, like the arm or skirt bottom to help read what is over what

Since when does drawing a random character count as a study? A study is something you draw to improve at something, I.e. Vaue study is a pic with a wide range of values drawn focusing on them, fold study focuses on folds, anatomy study on anatomy etc.
You just drew a picture. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not a study.

trying my luck here 2, need feedback to fix everythin, it's the sketch for today's inktober, so please I need feedback soon kek love you thx :D
was here a while back looking for feedback regarding a cat character i was commissioned for a convention in my area. I've been looking many placed for skilled artists in my area, but only two have really responded. I feel that my design will be the final one, and that sucks because Im not that good and feel someone else deserves the spotlight here.
I gave the sketch i made to the con chair and he liked it, basically giving no other feedback aside from 'i like it, can you make it transparent, etc etc.'
how can I iomprove this? I need to make a few more poses, so ill take what feedback I get for those. This is also not entirely finished, but you guys get the idea. (hat probably not staying in final design.)

check the placement of her mouth and horns. check the placement of her head on the neck. look at her left ear and think about how forms occlude. if she were to pull her hair back how would it look? where would the ears connect and how much of her left ear would we really see? and why did you draw the hemline like that?
I've been trying to draw cute anime girls but the face looks kind of weird. Any thoughts?
And am I just imagining it or is her right boob bigger than the left one?
>>2246913
The rest of the drawing is quite nice. You have a pleasing rythm in your lines and nice weight to the tits and hair around the ribbons. The combination of her droopy eyes and open mouth make her look insecure and awkward and not in a cute way. I want to bully her and grope her luscious teen tits as I flush her head in the school's toilet

Try using more fur to connect the body and head instead of a sharply defined neckline; you could possibly throw in a stylized dewlap, even though it's not typically a feline trait. Not saying it will definitely be an improvement but it would be fun to see where it goes.
Fuck my shit up.
>>2246553
I can't see whether or not it has eyes if I turn my brighness down.
Something you may want to fix, possibly by lightening the fur where light strikes it.
A similar problem occurs for the outlines of the front legs.
I hope the foreshortening doesn't fuck the overall art

I'm an unskilled amateur, but I'm digging this. Got a blog fam?
>>2246984

Adoption/Kidnap-doption
More Tatsu.

Really liked the sketch, but not really digging the white outline and overall coloring of this version frankly.
>>2244355
erase it all and then burn the paper
>>2247062
is it only for me or does that perspective look fucked, it doesnt look like her butt attaches to her back
I'm more than certain that there are problems with anatomy but it's too late to fix those. I'm more concerned with this cruddy background I'm trying to do
send help

Better?
>>2247062
vary the size and shape of water droplets
have sheets, large drips, small clingy bits, etc
>>2247069
low level artist but youre making it a gif for no reason... just concentrate on the actual drawing!
>>2246781 you shrunk the eye in 3/4 view instead of compressing it.
>>2246945
too late, the game already did that ;-;
Ended up working on another one, wip.
>>2247225
you draw very strange tits.
But I like your style.
>>2247098
the background looks pretty good to me, but Im just a beginner so I dont think Id be able to notice if there was anything wrong
>>2247109
firez, why do all your characters look like they're about to cry? it makes me cry too ;-;
>>2247109
better... everything looks fine except for the legs. and arms, which appear very 2 dimensional and formless.
fundamentals....
how often do you study anatomy? gesture?
Im not quite sure what to do for background yet
>>2247259
She lost her left arm while jogging around (In other words: I just realized how stupid that pose is).
Also being a depressed fuck doesn't help :/
>>2247374
Thanks, I probably should have left some construction lines on the legs and arm, because I did construct those, the shoes... I have nothing regarding that, I definitely should have been more careful with them.
I'm ashamed to admit that I do study anatomy and gesture, I do at least one Croquis Café video and some pages from the Michael Hampton's book every day. For what is worth I'm also studying perspective through the Olson's NMA course.
Idk I'm really frustrated but I love creating stuff I wish I realized this way earlier in life when I still had time and probably a chance...sigh
Gonna call this done.
>>2247387
please spend like a week doing studies of facial expressions
>>2247387
i think you need to loosen up a bit, to be honest.
i wish you luck firez, please don't look back and wish for alternatives, you can only do your best now.

The pigments you are using do not seem very good quality. You might want to upgrade. The watercolor thread has links to two artists grade sets for $20
