Have the Germanic folk achieved a greater effect on today's world than that of the Italics?
Hard to say since the present culture, civilization, technology and so forth is based on the past and didn't appear in a vacuum.
I would argue so. Certainly, Roman culture has lived on in the Latin countries, with Catholicism and Latin-derived languages, with much of the world being shaped by Spain and France.
However, I would say that the Germanic victory over Rome shaped most of the countries divisions today, and that, perhaps with Anglos at the helm, have been the most world-shaping. For example with a Germanic folks hegemony, we speak English on an international message board.

I would actually say that the Latins got an easier time to call it their religion than the Germanics can.
Both because that Roman (And Greek) philosophy had their fair share of influence on the creation of Christianity and that the Roman Catholic Church not only put a focus on the scripture but also put a focus on local traditions.
With the reformation that put a focus on the scripture alone the old, Jew centric testament gained in influence and the religion became a bit more Jewish than before.

Yes with the caveat that the Germanics didn't replace the Greco-Romans so much as embellish upon them. Just as the Greeks learned the basics of their civilisation from the Egyptians and Sumerians, so the Germanics did with the Greco-Romans. Actually, a lot more of its vocabulary is borrowed. The Oxford English Dictionary editors counted the sources of English words and found:
Latin, 28.34 percent; French, 28.3 percent; Germanic, 25 percent; Greek, 5.32 percent; no etymology given, 4.03 percent; derived from proper names, 3.28 percent; all other languages, less than 1 percent.
