MTSP (and many others) rose to his highest sales mark when his works were being heavily pirated for years prior and for years during the peak.
Sale numbers should be affected by the fact that a lot of Japanese didn't like the light novel's kind of retcon of Kyouka's strong personality from the doujinshi and the fact that MTSP hasn't really released new stuff for what seems to be over 2 years.
Nothing has been ever affected much less by mid-quality scans released months after comiket.
Japanese people never care for scans anyway they just buy stuff to be grateful with the artist.

Let's parse through what you are saying.
It has almost always been the case that everyone relies on the Japanese (or people who can go to Japan) to support the creator. Because there are a lot of customs/shipping/financial issues for most people that read these works outside of Japan, a lot of people just can't buy it. This has not changed whether it was before Jin was becoming popular, was popular, or not producing new things at this point.
Doujin groups have disbanded before piracy and during piracy. A lot of doujin groups make things even at a loss. Some of them just disband because they get hired by official publishers too. It is a highly competitive game.
Second print runs generally do not get sold out unless it's a completely high quality work, especially when its a second print run with more censorship and a good number of first prints were already sold.
I didn't even give a fuck about shakuganexa's high quality scans because it was completely oversized compared to existing scans out there already before he decided to bring his scans out way too late.
Also, thinking a scan that oversized and useless for most Japanese users' PCs and mobile phones (because they like using old shit) would have affected Japanese sales makes no literal sense. And non-Japanese barely buy these things due to aforementioned issues in their own home countries.
The situation has not changed for Jin, or any other Japanese creator. Jin, especially Jin, has become very popular as his works were being pirated years before Tachibana came out and demolished its opposition as a doujin series.
But popularity also wanes. You can't just milk one thing with small changes and expect people to buy it. I love his work, but even I can't make excuses for him.

Also, e-hentai downloads the actual size of the images. Which is why people complain about the size of the absurd high resolution scans. And size matters for the Japanese who have outdated machines for this.
Just because people download something, that doesn't mean that they have the financial wherewithal or the legal ability to obtain these things. Just claiming a point based on pure numbers is a fallacious argument.
