Are these just a meme? I'm planning to buy a T450s for college and am thinking it would be nice to be able to just slide in to connect to ethernet, monitors, and any other peripherals. But pic related, the reviews for all of the docks on Lenovo's site are complete shit. Are these just a waste of time?

No they're not a meme. I order and set up these docking stations for user at work sometimes and I've rarely had an issue with them. They work as intended.
I bought a mini dock series 3 for my t420, pretty comfy.
Then i sold my desktop because it was gathering dust after using my t420 full time, i thought i'd regret selling my desktop but hasn't happened yet.
