I didn't want to spent 50 bucks on a new mesh strap + spring bars so I jerry rigged it on a chink mesh I had laying around.
It works suprisingly well. BTFO'd my thumb in the process though

Has anyone in the US ever purchased from Page & Cooper? Their ex-VAT prices are a steal at the current good-boy-points to freedom bucks exchange rate, compared to US ADs or even asian ADs like Gnomon. New Sinns and Damaskos are being offered at close to average pre-owned prices on ebay. What's the catch? Will I be hit with exorbitant customs fees?

My girlfriend's druggie sister moved in two months ago. At first I tolerated her but then I started noticing that little things went missing, so I began locking my watches in a cabinet.

One day I stupidly left my Visodate, arguably one of my best watches, just lying on my desk. Sure enough when I got home it was gone. While I couldn't prove anything I knew it was her worthless sister who took it. Probably pawned it off somewhere for a week's worth of drug money. After an argument with my girlfriend, we basically just changed the locks and told the good-for-nothing to go live with her parents.

Sometimes my girlfriend still complains that we were overly harsh for throwing her out over a watch, but the callous disrespect for property (from a "family member" we took in, no less) was just too much to bear. I feel for you, anon. Nothing worse than constantly being worried about having your shit stolen out of your own home.

if you wore an radium lune watch 24/7, 365-- you'd be exposed to 65-130 millirems of radiation

you get +300 millirems of radiation a year for just existing on Earth. and even that could be higher depending on what you do/where you live.

plus radium in these quantities only become dangerous if you are constantly inhaling radioactive dust particles. aka opening the watch and working on it all the time.

also, who the fuck would wear the same watch every day?

>Nearly chocked when I saw the price

Got it new from kijiji CA for 150$. Still hefty considering you can get a solid one for less than that.

>battery
Actually the worst in their series. I get 3 days on it, a week if on airplane mode.

But its all about the utility for me and this watch has a lot of that to offer.
>>
>>55427129
> I get 3 days on it, a week if on airplane mode.
Why is pebble battery so shit? I thought eink is superior.
I'm getting 7 days of use (a few calls and messages per day, rarely checking weather or controlling player) on an old Sony SW2.
>>
>>55426943
I thought the hodinkee article or official page would tell you that. It's minimalism done well in most regards. Mechanically simple and robust yet very easy to use and accurate, extremely well thought out from an engineering standpoint and quite some from a design standpoint and finally - fully customizable.

I find smartwatches mimicing traditional retarded. Specially pixelated illegibility faux subdials - and since they know the full date at all times with no problems, why not display it as a perpetual calendar? Any tiny line isn't suitable for the current smartwatches, so I find Ochs design that's intended for maximum legibilty and intuitivty pretty suitable. And less boring than your current that's purely functional.
>>
Oh but skip the seconds hand. If you want exact precision you should use a digital readout anyway and I'm fairly sure no smartwatch manages to look better than even a 18000vph watch. And it's sleeker.
>>
>>55423511
>shitty, plastic/rubber version of already mediocre Void watch

pls no
>>
>>55427170
I read it over and man the minimalism and the way to tell everything analogously is amazing.

>why not display it as a perpetual calendar

I really want to imitate this design on the Pebble Round, but I agree with you that thin lines on this resolution is very illegible.
>>
>>55427156
I don't know, I think they sacrificed battery to make it lighter and smaller.

The other pebbles can go 7-14, and 30+ on airplane mode.
>>
>>55426032
Beautiful watches. Look MUCH more expensive than they are. Really a premium watch.
>>
>>55427156

It's not real eink.

It's some low res low power LCD display.

Simar to what you'd find in a Casio digital watch for example. But evolved.

Also Pebble doesn't even make their own display which is why their watches have the huge bezel. They basically picked out a display from the market and adapted their electronics to it.

So until Pebble designs and orders their own display, the design and display capabilities will be directly tied to the Japanese company that makes those LCDs
>>
>>55423511
i really like the design of this watch and i was looking for an alternative to my f-91w. i almost ordered it until i saw the size of the watch
>W38 x H44 x D11 mm
the fuck? why is it so huge?
>>
>>55427603

Also, another thing that bothers me about Pebble is that they still use Kickstarter.

They are an established company with several products out on the market now. They shouldn't be begging their users for money every time they want to make a new watch.

It rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

I just bought a vintage 1950-60's Girard Perregaux watch from ebay that was listed as a men's watch. I just received it and it's a little smaller than I anticipated. It measures 27mm x 27mm. Is this actually a women's watch or was it normal for square watches to be this small of a size for men back then? I'm wondering if I should wear it or return it... I really like the watch just not sure about the size.

This would make a great watch face for a smart watch.

As far as sub dials, I always try and rig them to show battery of phone/watch on analog faces if they are present. Lately I've been using Radii, which I think matches the minimalism you're looking for while also making a watch face that's easy to read and basically only possible on a smartwatch. This is a pretty dark picture, but you can see everything legibly. Left dots represent days, number is date, center number is hour, the orbiting number is day, it has an orbiting dot on the minute number that represents seconds, and the side line represents battery life of the watch.

No, I can't, and no normal person can, because you have to be TAUGHT how to read the fucking watch. Adults need to have it EXPLAINED TO THEM, that's what any person with a command of the English language would describe as "unintuitive".

It's not minimalism, there is still a sub-dial spinning under that dial feeding you data, the only difference is that it's not got any information printed on the actual sub-dial. You're reading data, not information. It's not clever, it's shit.

What fills the void is a meaningful existence. A sense of accomplishment. A feeling that you've made a difference in improving yourself and others. When you drop 3 months salary on a watch, the watch represents your life's toil. 8+ hours a day, 5 days a week, of your life sold to the highest bidder. You are wearing all of that, on your wrist. The wrist you type with. The wrist you lift with. The wrist you work with and play with and masturbate with. It will be a constant, intimate reminder of the value of your labor. And that is why an affordable, disposable watch will never fill that void.

When they don't look like shit and the battery life isn't shit.

Casio is the only brand to be getting somewhere with their bluetooth solar G-Shocks and Edifices. Pic related is also a great idea, except the battery life is still shit, but at least it's a watch.

I'm thinking there are two ways the smartwatch segment will gain momentum: watch brands make smartwatches that are actually watches, or phone manufacturers make watch-sized phones that aren't just slaved devices that only duplicate what a phone can do.

So far there's only Casio and Timex timidly getting into smartwatches, and we have no watch-sized phones. So the answer is "not today".

Not all chronographs have 3 "clocks". Some have 2 (like the one I posted) some only have 1 (like the Seiko 7018), while somr have one that functions as two or more (Seiko 7016). The one you're looking at, if it has 3 subdials, is most likely a Valjoux 7750, in which case they most likely show a sub seconds hand, a minute counter and an hour counter.

I just wish the finishing was better.

I went to a boutique last month to check out a Speedy, and while it is undoubtedly great for, say, a $2,500 watch, it is decidedly subpar for something that costs over $6,000 retail.

Omega thinks it can price its shit like Rolex... Swatch must be dreaming. There is no way they can compete on quality.

>>
>>55440925
The 8926OB is pretty good. The movement is actually a slightly upgraded seiko 5 movement, it hacks and handwinds.
I've owned 2 and both had a quality control issue, on the first one the caseback gasket was off its track and whichever monkey assembled it just torqued down the caseback on top of it. It took me 2 hours of hammering a flathead screwdriver against the caseback to get it off.
The most recent one had a date magnifier that was way crooked.
I used both watches as a base for modification (see >>55429781), you should consider doing that as well
