Hi

Is there an officially supported way to use actual Samba on the latest OSX? They phased out Samba to replace it with their own Samba-like protocol and it has some weird behaviors. For example, files created by Windows clients to the Mac OS server are in mode 700.

It's filled to the brim with paid shills and their products fucking suck. It's 2016 and they still haven't added support for a microsd slot, one of the most crucially basic requirements for a phone nowadays.
>>
>>55400634
>one of the most crucially basic requirements for a phone nowadays
Why? they sell 128gb phones

Anyway, I dont think they suck. And even if they do, there are a lot of products that suck and they dont trigger anyone here.
>>
>>55400654
>Why? they sell 128gb phones
Which is literally half of what the highest capacity microsd card out there. Not only that but most phones already come with 64GB of internal memory so that + 256GB microsd card = 320 GB total storage space.

Not anymore. There's a reason those 64GB microsd cards are selling for as low as $15 a piece. People are buying them en masse.

>Its a phone, not a laptop.
Not anymore. Now you can torrent your favorite normies of thrones or yify movies and stream them at the same time. You can't even fucking torrent on an iPhone without jailbreaking it which is beyond pathetic.
>>
>>55400761
>People are buying them en masse.
Source?

Torrenting on a phone is pathetic. People that watch movies/tv show on a phone usually use netfilix or something like that.

Just because you have 16gb on a phone doesnt mean you cant do that.
>>
>>55400804
>Source?
Just look at the prices. If people didn't buy microsd cards so much then manufacturers wouldn't sell them so cheap.

>Torrenting on a phone is pathetic. People that watch movies/tv show on a phone usually use netfilix or something like that.
There are tons of movies and tv shows not available on netflix or something like that. Sometimes torrenting is the only way and protects you from buying dumb fucking shows or movies that turned out to be fucking shit.

>Just because you have 16gb on a phone doesnt mean you cant do that.
You can but you're extremely limited in how much you can download. That 16GB phone will come with ~12GB of actual storage space because the mobile OS will use some space and then ~4GB will probably go to apps. That leaves you with 7GB of usable storage space for torrenting (1GB for system stability). That's fucking nothing, a single 1080p YIFY movie can easily reach 2GB in file size. Download 3 of those + a few MP3 albums and now you're fucked.

That is not how economy works.
First of all, its not the manufacturers that say what the retail price is

Dont you think you are making a big deal out of this just because iPhone. I get that having a msd slot is nice, but its not really a requirement. Specially since your arguments are based on watching movies on a phone.

>Sometimes torrenting is the only way and protects you from buying dumb fucking shows or movies that turned out to be fucking shit.

Just that was definitely worth it. I pirated apps too, so there's that.
>You cant even update the software when a new version come out can you?
You wait for a jailbreak or lose your jailbreak.
>Can you go back to stock at least
Of course

>>55410728
>You need to jailbreak that phone to do everything that any android can do out of the box?
Pretty much. It's a very nice platform given you can either get around or live with the restrictions but in the end Android wins because it's not as restricting. If iOS was as limitless as Android it'd definitely be the better platform.
>>
>>55410787
>Sure some were cosmetic, but the file manager was useful and speeding up animations was a necessity.
Well, from the looks of things everything was cosmetic. How was the file manager useful? You dont really need a file manager on iOS.

>pirating apps
ugh
You belong on android, really.

Why would you even change how iOS looks? Its a perfectly consistent experience.
>>
>>55410533

>>55410745
>software updates
Nexus phones get all the updates instantly, on the same day they're released. Plus If you're not a normie, you can download the stock image and flash it before everyone else.

>faster
The latest flagships from all major android manufacturers are just as fast.

>looks good
Highly subjective. Though applels are built really well, their design seems uninspired. It's a rehash of the same shit every year

>better apps
To an extent, maybe.

No real reason to pay $700 for an iPhone when you can get the same for about $300-450.
>>
>>55410841
>Well, from the looks of things everything was cosmetic
Speeding up animations sounds like it's just changing a preference but without it iOS is one of the most painful things to use I've ever experienced. I don't count that as purely cosmetic.
>You dont really need a file manager on iOS
You don't really need one on Android either, but being able to manage your files is quite nice.
>ugh
>You belong on android, really.
No, Android sucks too. What's the issue here anyway? Do iOS users have some pact to throw even more money away because their thousand dollar phones weren't enough down the drain?
>Why would you even change how iOS looks?
Because it's my fucking device and I want it to look the way I think is best, not the way Apple thinks is best.
>>
>>55410870
>Nexus phones get all the updates instantly, on the same day they're released. Plus If you're not a normie, you can download the stock image and flash it before everyone else.

Even nexus get updated for 3 years at best if you're lucky. And where I live the new ones cost as much as an iPhone. I know apple is going to updates my phone until its no longer able to run the new OS.

>The latest flagships from all major android manufacturers are just as fast.
iPhones are faster actually.

>Highly subjective. Though applels are built really well, their design seems uninspired. It's a rehash of the same shit every year

Its way more consistent user experience. Apps look good and consistent with the interface. More practical UI as well (3d touch, swipe to return/ dedicate widget tab/on layered homescreen, etc). This is probably the biggest reason, android is a inconsistent mess.

And it doesnt matter if I pay more at first, iPhone hold value unlike any other phone. If I ever feel like changing I can just resell for almost the same value I pad for it.

>>55410908

>>
>>55410981
Yes? What do you use it for?
>>
>>55411131
It's been four years since I've used iOS, I can't give you specifics. I'm going to make a wild guess though and say I did use it for managing files.
>>
>>55410963
I don't, that's the funny part.
>>
>>55411131
Jokes aside, in the last few years I have felt less of a need for an actual file manager on my phone. So I'd be alright with a system like iOS, but I'm never alright with its pricing.
>>
>>55411237
>I can't give you specifics
So hmmm yeah. Like I said in the beginning, nothing useful.

You would really only need a file manager if your phone was your primary device for some reason. I need a file manager on my laptop, but its useless on my phone.

It's almost as if some people have different needs for different things. And hmm yeah you seem to be forgetting about the system animations, far from just cosmetic.

Hey guys im considering the macbook air 13inch 2015 because theres a decent sale going on for them. How would the i5 model with 4gb of ram handle some audio work in Ableton Live for an extended period of time? And maybe some dota 2 on low settings? Thanks guys

SE. The camera bulge of 6s is too ugly.

>>55410618
Well, ruined is a too strong word, but it made me realize that I am get fucked by companies who sell me overpriced toys and don't even bother to offer support for them. At least the chink stuff is priced fairly.

>>55410685
The only awesome thing would be animation speed for me, it's really silly long but then again, nothing major.

>>55411361
Yes and yes. Though how much is it actually?
>>
>>55411325
I would argue about adding certain files like PDFs, or music without iTunes.

But like >>55411350 said some people have different needs. For instance, some use their phones for emulation in which case they need a way to transfer some weird files from time to time.
>>
>>55411350
I get that people have different needs but that doesnt make it less useless.

About the animation thing, your phone was probably problematic if that was slowing you down, should have taken it to the store.

I cant even react faster than my animations.

One of my female friends bought herself an iPhone 6s. She's complaining about battery life all the time. 20% in 2 hours seems a bit unreasonable when she doesn't use facebook or any of that crap.

Thanks for the quick reply! 850, using my c720 chromebook +chroot made me WAY less reliant on my desktop and its getting time to replace it.

Im torn between the air 13" i5 4gb

and one of the more recent asus x305's or this

Dell Inspiron i7359-2435SLV

I know osx is really good for audio latency, other than using it for production It would just be some random coding + dota 2. I would be at the very end of my budget doing the 850 for the MBA.

>I get that people have different needs but that doesnt make it less useless.
That's exactly what it means.
>About the animation thing, your phone was probably problematic if that was slowing you down
It had absolutely nothing to do with my hardware. The animations are like watching paint dry on every stock iOS device ever.

Hm isn't Asus 305 with core M? Dota would be painful on it over time.
Dell Inspiron i7359-2435SLV seems pretty ghetto with a harddrive and a 1366 x 768 screen. 1400x900 on Air might not sound like much better but the magic of 16:10 is very noticeable and it's one of the better TN screens.

850 isn't a super amazing price for it but given the alternatives, I'd still go with the Air. The battery life is godly, the trackpad is on another level and OSX is pretty nice once you got used to it.

Well, I had 2012 Air with 4GB RAM and always had 2-3 office documents open plus 40+ tabs and it was never an issue. Did some light gaming under Windows and beyond silly fan noise for tasking ones, it was all fine too. Gave it to sis now who works a lot with InDesign and PS and she never complained about performance either.

Not sure if OSX is leaner per se but I never experienced annoying slowdowns like on Windows with it, so it does seem to deal better with resources.
