Mainly because people play games like Arma 3 which have horrible multi-core support.
Other than that most people are fine with an FX-8350 or A8 APU if they don't play vydia much. Though I would personally wait for Zen, it could arrive as soon as Q3 2016.

Depends on the synthetic benchmark, some are pretty accurate at guaging overall performance like passmark but in the end something like FP64 GFLOPS performance should be used.

Been using a 1055t and 6300 for like years, pretty happy with things hovering around 30 or 40 fps in games and a little above average application performance when softwares like UDK/UE4 supports it.
I mean can't he/she wait for another slow minute to render or process stuff ? Its not like it takes another extra 30min.

Your machine is still pretty powerful. You could most likely get away with ~20 FPS encoding 720p 10-bit HEVC video.
You should really try it, they've done massive amounts of improvements to the x265 encoder.
Try the most recent one with MEgui or Staxrip from here:

I just tried 10-bit x265 1.9+227 encoder and got like 9 FPS on my AMD laptop encoding HEVC video. Pretty noice if you ask me.
