You missed the point entirely. By the time DX12 is a regular thing in video games, the RX480's performance will get you, at best, high or medium-high settings.
VR is great and all but just like 3D, most people aren't terribly interested in it. And if they are, an RX480 is probably the baseline and it'd be wiser to wait for an RX490.

So now we're down to 4 games, as opposed to the literally tens of thousands of other games that the 980 will outperform the RX480 in. The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Overwatch, and a few other popular games are going to be what most people judge a card's performance off of, regardless of whether or not it's a good indicator of performance and a fair benchmark.

I was testing my power supply and mucking around in my PC and I unplugged my HDD. When I went to reboot, I got into the computer and realized I forgot to plug my HDD back in (I boot off a small SSD)
So I turned off the PC and plugged my HDD back in, and hit the power button, but nothing happened. Literally nothing, does not even make a sound or show any lights.
When I unplugged it again, it booted fine. But at the log in screen, it bluescreened. So I rebooted, went into BIOS, selected the SSD, and now it's working fine again.
But I need that hard drive. Anyone know what my problem might be? The HDD has no OS on it so idk why my computer wont boot with it plugged in. Maybe it thinks it's the boot drive?

Which media streaming?
Roku 3 is basically dead, now force to look at replacement for non-techy parents. They like Netflix, Amazon and dad has now found the wonders of YouTube (God help me).
I like the simple UI of Roku as it keeps them from messing things up, but we just lost our second one and replace a hundred dollar units every 3 years is very upsetting given it is a glorified data relay computer. Mom no longer trusts Roku as the first only lasted a few years and the second was glitchy for the years it worked, but trust my judgement if I push it. Dad is a big Apple fan, as he still sadly thinks they can't get viruses. So Apple TV seems like a sensible option, but I haven't gotten to do much research and am on a tight schedule to figure this out. Not really wanting to mess with the "smart" features the TV and Blu-ray player have given how lost my parents are with these matters.

4k is getting pretty cheap. $350-500. But you should get 27"+, to take advantage of it and not suffer from the horrors of scaling.
It's good for some things. Desktop use, media editing, browsing, etc. Watching specific 4k vids and pattern while high. Bragging, etc. Non demanding games. Most importantly, having a big screen with decent dpi, and 1440p being overpriced.
Not even the best gpus can do 60fps in demanding games so just forget it. Don't expect any videos you acctually wanna watch to be in 4k for, say, 3 more years.

The only reason to get the 960 over the 380 is if you REALLY hate amd, or if you find a massive price difference. I bought a 960 because I found it on sale for $185 and the cheapest 380 at the time was roughly $225, so I bought a hyper 212 evo for my cpu with the price difference.
I'm only seeing the 380 go for about $165 right now, and for $35, you can get the rx 480 in just a couple weeks (aftermarket ofc). You'd be soooo much better off waiting.

This may be a stupid question but do the fans for a GPU/CPU even do anything of value? In the link above, Luke from LTT basically blocked off the gpu's fans entirely and it only went up by a few degrees, same with the CPU. There was basically no airflow and yet the temperature is still well within the normal range.
Is the heatsink doing like 99% of the work (well obviously it is, i mean how much are the fans actually cooling the heatsink)? What would happen if we just strapped a beefier heat sink on the GPU and made it passively cooled?

Update on this, so I think things might have changed.
I took it into best buy and they put it in a HDD Dock and it didn't spin at all, didn't show up on the HDD list either.
Am I fucked? I called multiple local places for data recovery and best buy was the cheapest provided it's a level 1 recovery, looking around 250 - 500. I just tested this on my 750ti. I started Borderlands 2, GPU shot up to 55C at 40% fan speed, then I put fans on 100% and it dropped only to 50C, pretty small difference.
I guess he didnt test for long enough, but he was testing for like an hour total so I figured the heatsink would have warmed up enough by then.
