What technology is NOT a meme?

OS X. It's even the opposite - there are memes on how it's a meme or how bad it is.

All technology is a meme. Our lives are all memes. The universe itself is one great meme reaching levels of irony impossible for our minds to comprehend.
>>
Javascript and webapps, unfortunately. I've done enough interviews recently to see that when people say "You can't avoid javascript. Everyone is moving towards webapps", they aren't kidding.

Used workstations. They really do provide the best price to performance ratio you can find. If you buy one off of ebay with a warranty included you won't find a better deal.

Careful about that noise tho.

Virtual Reality, anything made by Apple, Razer brand peripherals, alienware brand computers, external desktop GPUs attached to laptops, any gaming laptop, 4K monitors, WiFi cards for desktop computers, Windows 10, and pretty much anything else that adheres to form over function. ;>)

I would say the same for some networking equipment too. You can pick up some good stuff from businesses that upgrade.

This.

Also engines, electricity, batteries, and some millenia-old technologies still-alive like glass, metal-working, make up, concrete, ceramics and alcoholic beverage production - not to mention vaccines, a thing we shouldn't be able to make before 22nd century but some SOB managed to invent in 18th century and to prove its efficacy by putting his own life at risk. (Damn overpopulation!)

NO FUCK YOU. I taught the same thing.
I bought a Optiplex 7010 on Ebay for 299.99, the HDD died, and I had to add more RAM, PSU was also changed. I would have been better off getting a new computer.

That's not a workstation, bruh. Optiplex is cheap, mass produced, and disposable business class.

You should have bought a Precision.

I thought they were really ugly when I first saw them, but they have grown on me and now I want a T7600 or T5600 very badly.

Lenovo's P900 is also awesome. The internals are a thing of beauty.

What is he holding in his hand?

I've seen decorative shit like that like rooster shaped bottles filled with that stuff and I still don't know if its just for display or what the fuck its for.

Is it edible? What is its use?

Thinkstation cases are sexy. Got my eyes on a D30 for my next main desktop when I retire my current to full time server duty.

How good are precisions? I also have another Dell, a Vostro 200 as my side PC.

There are a variety of configurations available, but generally they are built out of extremely high quality components, have motherboards which support very powerful CPUs, and have massive expandability.

There are only few downsides
-proprietary components are more expensive to replace when they break
-no overclocking in the traditional sense*
-high wattage PSUs have low amps per rail, limiting GPU choice
-dual CPU systems can be loud-ish

The components should not break easily since they are built for heavy duty. The GPU choices are actually pretty good these days, anything with a TDP under 250w should be fine.

Dual CPU systems are never going to be whisper quiet, but I can live with it in exchange for the raw power. Some of HP's workstations offer a liquid cooling kit, but you'll have to pay a premium for it. Theoretically one could replace the CPU fans with a quieter model like a Noctua (or a cheaper liquid kit) with some ingenuity.

>>55262333
oh, and the overclocking:

You can't overclock on any of the main workstations from Dell, HP, or Lenovo.

However, look in their BIOS for features that result in a factory overclock. For instance, HP has the "Intel Enhanced Turbo Boost" function on the HP Z series workstations, which is supposed to increase performance...or something. It's not very well defined. But when I turn it on I get better cinebench scores.
