just got a barley used p50 with the 4k screen, i7, 32gb ram, 4gb quadro m2000, 256gb ssd + 2 tb HDD for 1700 dollars. The previous owner was not too good with computers and unplugged the trackpoint while installing ram (also had no idea what a trackpoint was) but I got that worked out.

I bought a T430s and the speaker grille stickers fucking rank.
I peeled it off and in addition to the shit in the grille, the goopy adhesive had degraded.
Anyway, I've cleaned the grille with some pics glue, spreading it. Letting it cure and then peeling. Worked a treat.
Eventually I want to get new stickers, can anyone recommend a seller on eBay? Or Aliexpress? Or other?

Thinkpads didn't have shit screens until a couple years after Lelnovo took over and started cheaping out. Three years before this model, the R50p had a 2048x1536 IPS screen. They're really rare though due to Thinkpads as a whole being more expensive in those days and the screens being really high-end options. I've never even seen a listing for the R50p, and if it weren't in Lenovo's support database I wouldn't believe that such a screen existed at all, let alone in 2003.

The screen is a transplant, but from a T60p so it's still ten years old. It's not a mod or anything, I just switched the heads of a T60 and T60p. The T60 did have Flexview options anyway, it's just easier to get a T60p because they only ever shipped with Flexviews, no chance of getting 1024x768 TN shit.

I'm debating librebooting a T400 I was given for free, but the steps seem insanely difficult for someone who isn't good with hardware mods/wiring. I'm assuming there isn't an easier way? Should I get a T60 for $70 or try to mess with getting the T400 on libre just for fun?

It's a T601F. I started with a really basic T60 around a year and a half ago and upgraded the everloving fuck out of it to get it to where it is today. All in all I probably spent $500-$600, with quite a few purchasing mistakes. If I were to build another one with the knowledge I have now I could probably get it done within $400.

Why do i like this laptop so much.
I have a Latitude D820 running Arch. It's processor doesn't quite have what it takes to do some simple stuff like unzipping packages or compiling. A CPU upgrade willl run me like 60 bucks plus effort. It already runs really hot, so I'm thinking the upgraded CPU will be even worse.
Has anyone used both a Thinkpad and a Latitude? Which did you prefer? I'm thinking about switching.

I bought 3 quite-greatly-used X220 Tablet systems for a total of $220 (funny, right?).
The screens came with large damage-smudges.
There was a hole in one of the palm rests.
A RAM door was missing.
Two hard drive doors and caddies were missing.
I pulled up the fucking parts list, plugged it into ebay, and have all of those parts on the way for a full repair.
It is so easy and pleasurable to repair thinkpads, and god damn, they are nicely built. The bottom cases are dinged up a bit, but the overall machines are still so fucking skookum.
