Does anyone know the feeling where after you lube one keyboard you start to notice rattling modifier stabilizers and it really bothers you?

I silenced my HHKB with some dental bands. Shit is so nice. You can still here some noise if you bang around on it like a retarded chimpanzee on steroids looking at some phat baboon ass, though. Other than that, if you measure the speed and pressure at which you bottom out the keyswitch, you make almost no noise.

I know jack about mechanical keyboards.

$200~aud

AUS

No idea about switch type, I've never tried any but not so loud that it will piss people in my office off.

Pretty much I want something like pic related but wireless.

I think backlights are kinda tacky but if I can turn it off I don't care.

Been using a G15 for god knows how long. I can post some nice keyboard gore if you want.

Fucking lube it!?

I'll admit a mechanical keyboard feels pretty nice to type on, but fuck that's retarded. I'm not spending that much money on a supposedly better piece of tech that I need to fucking lube up to get the most out of. It's a keyboard not a dragon dildo!
>>

Mechanical keyboards are more than fine without lube. The only reason I would see for someone to lube switches is if they are changing the switches all together.

Ok /mkg/ I need 2 boards. My switch preference is zeal purples > gatros ergo clears > cherry ergo clears >gatros browns >cherry browns.

Board 1 needs to be a 100% w/ 10 keys. Standard US layout. This will be my desk board. I'd like red backlighting as I practically live in an above ground cave.

Board 2 needs to be a 80% or 10 key less. This board will trudge around with my laptop. If there is a standard layout 60% I might be willing to go for that as the esc and F4 are the only real function keys I use. This board needs no backlight.

I'd prefer both boards to be under $200 each, but that is a little flexible.

>>55110727
What do you like about that switch and what do you want to change?
>>
>>55110940
I like the click and the pressure is just right. The weirs thing about this switch is the actuation happens before the click, and that was very odd at first, but I've gotten used to that, so if there are any switches that function the same, that would be cool. If I could keep the board, I would, but some of the switches aren't functioning properly, so I might as well just get a new one. Also it is very large, and I'm looking for something to take to the office in my bag, and bring home too.

Nice dubs double trips

They won't feel all the same, but greens are also clicky and come quite close in the weight of the keypress.
>>
>>55111366
I don't think there is any modern switch that works like that. Afaik Space Invaders are similar, but they aren't made since eternity either.

I guess you can try Cherry MX-Blues, or Matias Clicky (KBP V60 Matias). I never tried the NEC switches, but the force diagram implies that you'll probably like MX-Blues (maybe add a heavier spring, like 58.5 or 62g).
Maybe you could also like Matias Clickys, their click is sharper and the switches collapse after the click, so it gets depressed all the way instantly as soon as you reach the threshhold.
Also if you want to go with a custom build you may want to take a look at Cherry MX Whites and add a lighter spring. I really like mine, but prebuilt ones suck ass, as there are 2 kinds of whites that are nearly always mixed (soft and hard clicky ones. You want the first ones, but the latter are just MX-Greens)
>>

>>
>>55111845
This might sound stupid, but would it be possible to buy one of the "space invader" boards, remove the switches, and then solder those to a smaller PCB? I see several all over eBay, for really cheap. Or is that just too much work? Does that make sense? Lol

Sadly there are no 60% PCBs for that switch and I'm not sure if and how you could handwire them. In theory it should be possible, if you are willing to spend severeal houndred ours on this, maybe you could ask some guy on DT, I bet there are people who could help you more than me. But it will be a huge time sink either way.

If you are going for one of the other switches, I'd recommend the Matias one, although blues are probably more similar to what you're used to. The Matias ones just feel far more refined and the click sounds way better. If you chose to go with cherrys, take a look at the MX-Whites, although they fly under the radar they are pretty nice.
(Source: I got a board with whites, Matias QC, some loose Click ones too and one with Greens)

So I'm in the market for a full size keyboard with either Clears, Grays or Greens.
Currently I have a Ducky Zero with Browns (yes I know...) which aren't nearly as tactile as I thought they would be and are way too light.
I looked around on Deskthority and >Reddit a bit for experiences of people that went from browns to one of the specified switches.
Turns out most of the people were claiming the increased tactility was actually a bad thing and that Clears were extremely fatiguing to type on compared to Browns even though it's actuation point is only 25 grams heavier.
What's up with all these people having weak pussy-ass fingers?
I let my mom who has Osteoarthritis in her fingers type on my keyboard for a bit and even she said it was really light to type on.
>>
Why am I so obsessed with shitty fucking artisan keycaps?
>>
>>55112550
Same for me, I hate light switches, mine are apparently already pretty heavy and I find them on the lighter side, and from advice in this thread, the Matias Clicky, MX Greens/Whites are the ones for people like us that favour heavy switches with tactility I guess. The "space invaders" are still intriguing me though...

Those really don't seem too heavy. I only recommended whites if you are willing to switch springs, e.g. make them lighter. I'd guess that standard whites are way heavier weighted than what you are used to. I think the NEC one should be somewhere between Blues and Greens (just like the Matias one btw.)

Cherry are known to have created switches with up to 195 grams of actuation force for special applications. I'm sure at least some company has made at least small batches of even heavier switches that very few people know about.
It's not a difficult feat to make a switch heavier though. It mostly involves putting in a spring with more resistance.

Closest to cherry clicky feel, but silent is probably either a lubed, ergo-clear (but I guess you don't know how to solder?) or a KBP V60 with Matias Quiet Clicks.
They aren't a lot like Cherry clickies, but they are your only option. Imo they are way better (I'm this anon: >>55111845 )

>>
>>55115777
You're a dumbass who doesn't know what you're talking about.

O-rings reduce key travel and pad out the impact when the key bottoms out. It does nothing to reduce the sound of clicky switches like blues, where the click is due to the design of the switch internally.

Because people actually can waste quite some money because of wrong recommendations. I once bought a Topre because people flat out lied about its qualities. It's not shit, it just doesn't feel the way people described them to me.
Anyway. Why O-Rings don't work on blues. O-Rings only work when the bottom-out is what causes the sound. But Blues don't click at the bottom-out. They will make the switch more silent, but ONLY the bottom-out which isn't (or at least shouldn't be) louder than the click anyway.

>>55115667
Great choice. Dunno about the V80, but a nice alu-case made my V60 even better. Really silent, sturdy but due to the dampened switches it still doesn't feel like slamming on a piece of metal when bottoming out. It's quite expensive though...

Does /g/ have anything against razer?
I picked up a blackwidow x chroma tournament edition and it's pretty nice, simple looking, heavy as hell, solidly built, etc. They used to have that gaudy gaymer look, but now it's more subtle and pretty good looking imho. Only main downfall to the design is the glowing razer logo on the front, but that can be turned off and adjusted like any of the keys.
Also, having my keyboard turn into a visual equalizer or adjust or react to games is pretty cool.

>>55118062
On the blackwidow x chroma, they decided to not be special snowflakes and use more conventional fonts. Caps looks pretty good now.

Disable the Razer logo and make the colors more uniform and it'd be one of the cleaner keyboard in the market.

I also got my Blackwidow X TE for $120, the K65 RGB is $122 and it only comes in reds, and I was considering the Ducky One TKL, but that was $140, all plastic, and the more simple software control of the Razer one drew me to it a little more.
