Assuming perfect clock scaling (which would be crazy) 1266mhz puts it at over a Fury levels of performance.
Even with bad clock scaling, just 10% performance for the 17% overclock to 1266mhz from 1080mhz puts it at Fury levels of performance.

So all the rumors were true, this is basically a Fury for 200$.

Nvidia's fucking done, NOTHING they have or will come up with can compete at that price to performance. Cut down 1080 dies would eat their margins alive, taping out new chips would take at least 3-4 months.

Nah, I'm on 4.5.5. AMDGPU is nice, but I don't know how it fares with things like the Dolphin emulator and whatnot. Phoronix released a recent comparison with AMDGPU Pro and Nvidia drivers the other day showing how much work AMD still needs to do.

Most Feral games still don't work with AMDGPU, neither with Mesa, nor with the proprietary AMDGPU-PRO blob.

Civ V and Civ BE however work very well with AMDGPU

the GTX 1080 is the one that hits 320+ watts under certain conditions. It can only maintain that for miliseconds, and it's only done when there *would* have been massive frame drops. Basically Nvidia drivers work in such a way that send massive power and massive clocks to the necessary parts of the GPU to ensure that the game runs as smooth as possible.

That's how they achieved such smooth frame-times with the 1080/1070. Because the back end is being thrown the fuck around to compensate.

for now it shouldn't matter, but it's 100% more likely that in a year or 2 games will start demanding more than 4GB.

Think new consoles using rx480 with higher ram clocks...

so future-proof is 8GB but by then something faster will be out

Dude AMD could come out with a Vega chip with GDDR5X and it would make almost no difference and save them tons of dollarydoos.

AMD is just trying to get their invention to be put into their graphics cards for funzies. If they cared about getting their cards out faster and about making money they would release a vega in like 2 months with GDDR5X and then later a HBM model and market it towards 4K gamers

It seems likely seeing the 50c max temps of the card. That is so ridiculously cool it's crazy. I think they are going to release this card purposely slower than it could go (easily fury levels) just so it has a much lower TDP under 100w and that absolutely insane 50c temp.

(these things are going into imacs and macbooks, new xboxes and ps4's).

It will probably be the single most used GPU chip ever. mark my words

CF is a touchy subject. DX11 CF will give micro stutter. I have 2 AMD cards but I can't see any stuttering. Apparently it's there but I dont notice it. If you're going to be playing DX12/Vulkan games they will support SFR(Split Frame Rendering) This eliminates screen stuttering. But like I said DX12/Vulkan which will only be a hand full of games for now.

because most gamers don't want to blow over $450+ on a graphics card? and then buy a new monitor? most of the games that people play are just console ports. the idea of blowing hundreds and hundreds of dollars every year so you can play console ports at a luxury resolution is offputting to post people. 1080p 60fps is the standard on pc for a reason.
>>
>>55036588
so were all amd cards with 4gb or lower vram. whats your point?

the fact you're saying things like "absolutely destroyed" shows how retarded you are. it would be "absolutely destroyed" if it was consistently at 15 fps through all settings during testing. this is much worse for amd than it is for nvidia. nvidia can claim they've released the 970's successor with enough vram so the option is there for anyone to upgrade if they want to play at these settings. amd have no replacement for the fury x for another year so people with fury x's have to either buy a 1070 which is more powerful than the fury x or downgrade to any 300 series 8gb card. it won't go down well with fans when they realize they have to downgrade to actually play these vram hog games at the maximum setting.

that is unless you follow my simple argument of not being a little bitch and turning down the settings by one notch, but of course to you amd fangirls, as i've seen today, turning down the settings to ultra should be punishable by death.

There is a high chance your 3rd slot wont be as fast as the first 2. I have a MSI board top slot is PCIe-16 Second is PCIe-8 and the Third is PCIe-4 which is not worth is. Also When you add more cards you kind of lose more in the power to dollar value. I would say stick to 2 cards for these reasons. As I said I currently have a CF setup and I think I will get 2 480s because so for I had no problems but I will buy one card now and another one later. ALSO...DX11 if you have 2 4GB cards you get a total of 4GB. DX12 if you have 2 4GB cards you get 8GB vram. AMD is supporting CF as Nvidia seems to be killing SLi.

Not without significant compromises in quality. AMD's 7000 series has offered unprecedented longevity if you bought a high end card early on, mainly because they are benefiting from GCN updates still, and those came out in early 2012. That's pretty rare though.

In my experience most graphics cards die after 2-3 years of heavy use anyway.
