So, I have a friend that works in IT at UVA Medical Center and they're throwing out a bunch of Dell Desktops.
The sticker says Core i5 Windows 7 Professional. He said he could grab like 5 of them for me.
I didn't have time to check the model but the case is relatively small about 6-7 inches wide.
What is the best case scenario as far as CPU? I wanna salvage a decent i5 because I have an FX-6300 right now and single core blows.
Think it may be a 4590?

No, as it actually works, but every one of the PCs has to be the same(I think), but it just links the CPUs like a dual socket motherboard, although there are some limitations

Hard to say. The hospital I just did IT work at had I5-4690 on a LOT of their machines. More then likely it will be a Sandy Bridge i5.

clustering is nothing like SMP or SLI
all you need is a network and software like PVM or OpenMPI, doesn't matter for shit what the hardware is as long as your code parallelizes, will even work across different architectures
