It was supposed to be the next big thing. Not a niche tool. Even if every surgeon buys one, is still a flop, commercially.

Pretty much. The early versions of Newton OS had the "random word generator" feature, but that got fixed soon enough.
Also nice that you could write out full words, and where ever you wanted. Versus being confined to writing special glyphs in a box ... and a separate box for numbers.

Hardware wise the Vita is 10/10, maybe a 9.5 because of the memory card but you can't hold that against Sony, if they hadn't done that the Vita would have even less games than it does now, and it was our fault anyway.

The PSP had such a huge hacking scene the only way Sony could get anyone to back the Vita was by locking the shit out of it, including a proprietary memory card
>3DS uses SD with no issue.
It also had a much, much smaller scene. The PSP was THE device, the DS was just a device.
>>
>>54920287
Purely based on specs I'd agree that it's a 10 but overall the hardware has a few kinks in it.
>Lacking L2/R2/L3/R3 buttons
>Touchscreen makes up for this a bit but would be mostly unnecessary if they had a full set
>Back touchpad, literally why.

The lack of region lock and general feel of the device is nice though, aside from the gloss.

I still get messages from Google thanking me for being apart of the program. They sent me some book with photographs people took using theirs lol.

Thanks, Google!

>>
>>
>>54920372

I don't buy that for a second. DS had a huge piracy scene, all you needed was a Chinese made card that faked a proper game header and you were in.

Sony are just dumb with security.
>>
>>54920478

I've never bothered to use the browser on the vita but I haven't seen it very elegantly used in games
>QTEs or something in uncharted
>Star notes in project diva, sequel allowed use of thumbsticks like the ps3 version
>Attack/Defend order in ys
I think gravity rush used it for something too but I don't remember.

Probably at least 95% of me using it in ys was accidentally and then correcting it since that's where my fingers naturally rest.

One other thing I forgot to mention is the inclusion of cameras, although this is more of a thing that just annoys me personally. Why does every device need a camera nowadays, no matter how shitty it may be. At least the 3ds incorporates them into it's gimmick but I'd guess less than a thousand pictures have been taken with vitas worldwide.

Acquiring Chinese cards from probably unusual and potentially shady distribution channels is a whole lot of a different story for the target market.

3DS security got btfo so hard that you can pirate games directly from Nintendo's servers by scanning a QR code on the device, and there's no way for them to tell if you've actually bought the game or not.

Oh. Well, Nintendo doesn't do account based checks on whether you're allowed to download / launch a specific title, instead the system / eShop just checks whether a ticket file for the title is installed. These ticket files are easily dumped and not unique to the console.
It's pretty smart in theory because there isn't much if any strain on their cdn servers, but in practice the whole thing falls apart as soon as Nintendo doesn't have full control over the software running on the 3DS anymore.

1 star

I am completely underwhelmed by Amazon’s first attempt at a smartphone. The Fire is certainly not cutting edge when its key feature, unlimited photo storage in the cloud, is powered by outdated, dirty forms of energy like coal and gas. If other tech companies like Apple and Google can commit to powering their data centers with 100% renewable energy — so can Amazon.

I miss the Zune HD, I really do. I wish Microsoft had just released a bootloader unlock for it proper after it 'died' but of course they're too stupid to do such a cool thing for Zune HD owners and people that wanted to hack them and improve 'em.

But a damned awesome product nonetheless, the software sucked until the last version of it was released, that was pretty decent overall and a damned sight better than iTunes at the same time (still is, to be honest).

Microsoft is pushing for this right now. It will undoubtedly happen. We will have a shell that you plug your phone into that lets you conveniently use a large display and full sized keyboard.

Google is going this route as well by bringing ChromeOS under the Android umbrella.

But but but... Motorola did it before anybody else, and by a few years.

Unfortunately, trying to charge people $400+ for a fucking keyboard, screen, and battery (because that's all it was) on top of $600 for the fucking phone meant it was doomed to failure from the start.

Let's just ignore the privacy concerns of having a camera strapped to your head at all times.
Or how pathetic it is watching someone yelling at themselves trying to figure out what time it is.
Wearables are incompatible with current technology and the current consumer market.

What about a mousepad that has a built in wifi charger?
>>
>>54934309

I had that phone, the docking station for HDMI, it was a cool concept defeated by the tech not being fast enough. It only had a Tegra 2 with 1gb of Ram, just wasn't enough to run even a light Linux OS. Modern flagships would have zero issues now running a full desktop now.
>>
>>54934441
>wifi charger
Hello summer
>>
>>54934427
Well, it's actually a thrift store distribution hub that sends shit to the recycle, but typing that out is kind of awkward.

It varies from place to place depending on who you ask, when I was 14 I started getting into collecting old tech, I went there looking for mainframe gear, asked the guy who ran the little PC shop in the building about it and he just let me into the back to look at the shit they send off. Pretty sweet deal, $5 per desktop or $2 per laptop no matter what it is.

>Supported apps that were difficult to write with no guarantee that it would even make it onto their store
>Proprietary Zune software needed to access Zune contents
>Zune software on Windows changed interfaces constantly, requiring hundreds of MBs to be downloaded every time a new update went out
>Zune sync was set by default to delete music from both your Zune and your local library if you deleted from one
