In your opinion: When, if ever, are codec packs necessary?
K-Lite is really good in conjunction with MPC-HC and integrates with Windows really well.

nah fuck that botnet
only weebfaggots install that malwares
>>54913608
K-Lite just installs lav filters, ffdshow, and reclock. It's a pile of shit.
You never need codec packs anymore. Just install LAV Filters and you're done.
I loved mpc-hc until it started crashing my PC every single time I closed it out.
Now I use VLC, but I miss clicking the screen to pause so very much

Only time it was necessary was when anime moved to 10bit encodes as it took some time for the players to catch up and include codecs that worked with it. No need for them any more though unless some serious bug crops up, as the player will usually have the latest or near latest LAV filters included. Also remember to install madVR if you are using MPC.

Try the latest nighties or switch to the x64 build. Could fix your problem.
I haven't installed one since like 2007
MPC doesn't have WASAPI so fuck it.
honestly i dont even know what it is and why i needed
Damn madshi has gone on vacation again and retarded mpv shills don't stop spamming /g/ with their abominable threads.

When you watch animu ormovies from a different bunch of different encoders and you use a lot of different players.
Or you can just use VLC
>>54913608
yup, I remember using it
it also comes with mediainfo and a nice gui for configuration
>>54913070
I've never needed a codec pack and I have no idea why idiots use them.
>>54915778
Well I don't think they're idiots, but I don't use them as well.
>>54913805
But it does
>>54913070
Yes, the K-lite + madVR

>inefficient hardware acceleration, frames are copied from GPU to main memory, just to be copied back to GPU for presentation.
>no support for hardware deinterlacing and postprocessing.
>built-in deinterlacers can't perform cadence detection for proper film/animation-in-video handling.
>improper color space conversions on some GPUs.
>poor subtitle rendering.
Enjoy your "video player"
