I have a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime (the cheapest samsung phone) and i don't use it as much more than an mp3 player.
This morning i woke up to a dead battery. The history shows the phone was "awake" but the screen wasn't on. Is the phone "awake" for some auto-update thing? How could i check for what caused it?

You can just take educated guesses or look at the details on app usage pertaining to your battery. Facebook is usually the number one cause for terrible battery life on every android phone ever. Just uninstall apps one by one until the problem goes away and then you'll know which app is the culprit.

It says that the operating system uses up the most battery life.

What android version is this? It looks like 4.4.4.

5.1.1

Consider rooting and uninstalling bloatware. It's probably a lot of background apps that are running. Install xposed and Amplify to limit wakelocks (the things that keep your phone awake when you're not actually using it).

oops, sorry, not the OS apparently

No

Root phone and flash a firmware that isn't stock
Buying an iPhone solves these problems.

kek this, it's random battery drain shitty bug by android, the only one to fix it is reboot. Sometimes it will back again lol.
What you've got is called a wake lock.
Sometimes music programs cause it. Especially if they're conflicting with the skinned UI.
TL;DR: TOUCHJIZZ IS THE PROBLEM DON'T BUY SAMSUNG PHONES

Thank you for the help everyone. I literally just use it as a phone, camera, and mp3 player, so i don't know why it's having this problem.
Hopefully the factory system reset will fix it for now. I'm nervous about screwing it up, so I'll watch some YouTube videos about Xposed and try to learn more about tech by lurking here daily. Thanks again.
