In the market for a new laptop, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I want something between a slim ultrabook, and a phat gaming laptop.
Is this dumb? Should I get one focus, and stick with it? It's mainly gonna be used for school work, but I'd love to be able to use it for my design work, some LAN-games and even game jams.

No
Look up Asus K501ux.
Laptops are not for gaming, build a custom desktop instead.

It's not very powerful, but it's cheap and can play modern games at medium settings. Pretty slim too.

I have a ATX huge ass PC I play most my games on, but it's a bitch carrying it around.

I only play Bejeweled 3 and Civ V if i have free time so I don't know.

Not really. It's pretty much as low as you can go before you start hitting Iris levels of graphics.

Razor Blade or Razor Blade Stealth, the new one
They have a 1k model and a 2k model
both look pretty sweet if you get over the gay logo

XPS 15 maybe?
It also has a Thunderbolt 3 port, in case Thunderbolt graphic cards ever really take off.
