My maximum processor state is at 100%,
if i lower it to 80% is that harmful to the cpu, since they are meant to be at 100%? I wanna lower my temps a bit.

>>54808801
It's not harmful but it shouldn't be necessary to lower the temperature. What's your current idle/load temperatures, though? If your computer is a few months or even years old and your temperatures are abnormally high, it might be due to accumulated dust so cleaning the fans and heat sinks should help.

I downloaded a Python script to download imagefap albums.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/imagefap-gallery-downloader/
The instructions are straight forward. What you do is open the Imagefap Gallery Downloader and have it running, locate a imagefap gallery and click Copy and it should download the album. It worked for me last night, but now it doesn't want to do anything. I open it up, locate a gallery and hit Copy, and it just does nothing. There seems to be something I'm missing. Thoughts?

My fresh install of Win7SP1 has been "Checking for updates" for countless hours now. 1 odd thing though is this screen has changed. Went from nothing being there to all this being there. For the first semester or two, try to limit distractions. Get a T420 used, put some GNU/Linux distro on it and get some shit done. In my experience most people drop out within the first 3 semesters because they can't resist the temptation to spend all their free time (and then some of their study time, and then some of their lecture time, and finally all their time) doing anything but studying, then complain about it being too hard.

ok since two days win 10 decided to stick in a infinite loop of ''automatic repair'' at startup, tried everything even the with the cmd, it didn't work fuck it
so my question is when I reinstall windows 10 using a usb device will it wipe my system disk automatically, because of space reasons I cannot copy my files to a different hard drive, I am planing to create a ''backup'' folder in my system drive and copy everything of value in there using a bootable linux solution
normally on win7 and lower the system would just create a ''windows.old'' and leave everything intact, so could it work?
I'm having a problem when I play games, after a few hours the monitor will lose signal and the pc crashes. Sent it to the store and tech guy said it's either the psu or the motherboard. If it is the motherboard and I have to change it, do I have to reinstall windows?
The proximity sensor is giving me trouble during calls and I don't find it useful. Since I have Tasker, I thought about using it for disabling the sensor at all times.
I only created a simple 'hang up after 59 minutes' profile and I'm clueless about how to proceed, but I'm eager to learn.
Can anyone point out how to do this?
I'm going to use a virtual machine for the only purpose of using the Adobe CS5 suite (the "less intensive" applications that is). This is because through WINE I have had many issues, tried a while ago and it worked fine.
Which version of Windows would be better for this? I'm concerned about RAM usage of all things. Using Ubuntu.
Is there any decent laptop with more than 4 GB RAM for $4-500 max ir should I save for something better? My 2011 Macbook Pro I got from school sounds like a goddamn vacuum if you do anything more demanding than web browsing on it.

you can resize ntfs fairly easily.
shrink the win10 partition, make a new ext3 partition in the drives free space and copy the important shit there
then wipe the windows 10 partition and reinstall to there (dont wipe the drive), install an ext3 driver for windows 10, copy your shit back over, delete the ext3 partition and resize the windows partition to take up the whole of the drive

I have a few questions about RAID that Google refuses to give me definitive answers to.
I actually have a "RAID Box" (Icy-Box) with two 4Tb HDDs in RAID1 which is almost full and I'd like to add more space to it.
1.) Is there any way to add 2 4Tb HDDs to these (and change the box since mine only has room for two) and switch to RAID10 without losing my data?
2.) If I remove one of my actual RAID1 HDDs from the box and connect it directly to my PC, can I access my data? Is there any risk of losing data doing this?
3.) I've read people having issues recovering their data after their box died. I always thought that if it happened, you only had to connect one of the disk into your PC or to put both in any RAID1 box. Isn't that how it's supposed to work?
4.) If recovering data after a box breaks isn't as easy as that, shouldn't I simply stop using RAID? Should I use JBOD and manually mirror copy everything on separate HDDs everytime to be sure I'll always be able to retrieve my data if something bad happens?
I'm really anal about my data, I just want it to be stored in the safest possible way (Cloud excepted, my connection wouldn't allow it).

Hey /g/, I'm in a semi-big predicament. A family friend of mine called me up today because her windows 10 account password has been changed without her knowledge. I dropped by yesterday to clean up her laptop, and everything was in working order. I even restarted it and was able to log in just fine. She can't type anything into the password field and when she presses enter the password hint is 'some are unlucky', which is not her password hint.
Apparently users can fix their forgotten passwords with a password recovery disk, but she doesn't have one. There is also the M$ online password reset system, but that doesn't look like it can reset passwords for non-MS accounts; she made a local one only. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to reset her password? I suggested to her looking for the admin account on the account select page, but she couldn't find it. I also suggested reinstalling windows since she has a backup, but, naturally, windows installed itself so she has no windows disk.
Is there a way to stop uMatrix from blocking an image from being loaded after I've a-okayed it after the page has loaded? I'd like to be able to right click on the white-and-grey placeholder image > load image after I've 'whitelisted' the domain.

You cannot compress, compressed data.
>>54816827

>>54816887
You can't compress compressed data. There is nothing to compress. MP3 is an encoded container. Putting it in a RAR file, and using anything other then the 'store' option, gains no results and justs waste cpu time. When using compressed data, check how your compressing software handles a pure archive(rar and 7z using 'store')

>How will the card react when there's no fan connected to it's PCB?
i'd recommend attaching the new fan to the same fan header, so it can be controlled by the board/it's driver, which changes the fan speed relative to the chips' temperature
without the fan connected, the card might cause the machine to fail POST (aka, won't boot)
if it doesn't prevent boot, then it's safe to continue, again provided steps are taken to ensure the card won't overheat
I'm having hard freezes on my computer, requiring a hard reboot of the system. If there's any audio playing at the time, it loops the sound loudly. I have backlighting on my mouse and keyboard which turn off when the system freezes.
Strangely enough, the freeze is more likely to happen when there is less load on the system. If I run any full screen video games, the crashes almost never happen. This has actually happened to the system while it was installing Windows, so I don't think it's a software problem.
I've clean installed every single driver in the system, ran virus checks, ran memtest and windows memory diagnostic. I ran a chckdsk on the hard drive. I've checked that everything is plugged in inside the computer correctly and securely. Nothing is touching bare metal. The temperatures are never above 65c in the system. Everything in bios is set to defaults. So far no test I've ran has indicated any problem whatsoever. Does anybody have any idea what this could be?

Bigger fans = less noise.
Keep in mind that heat goes up so you want to setup the thing that produces the most heat (your power supply) at the top of the case.
You want the airflow to go in one side and out the other (usually from front/bottom to the rear/top. Perpendicular fans to the flow are shit, remove them if the case you get has some.
Also, you want positive pressure in the case, which means more flow in than flow out.

I have a computer with the following specs:
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 MoBo
Intel i5 2500k 3.3GHz
16GB DDR2 RAM
AMD R9 280
I've fallen for the hype of the GTX 1070, but I'm debating whether to upgrade my current computer or to buy a new one. My computer isn't exactly new (it's coming up on 5 years old), but I looked up comparisons of my i5 2500k to the i5 6500 and found that the 2500k is just as powerful as the 6500. It seems CPUs haven't really advanced much in the past few years, and I was wondering whether it was even worth it to get a new computer or if upgrading my current computer would be just fine. Upgrading would allow me to get a new monitor to go along with the 1070 and maybe get a few extra upgrades (bigger SSD and HDD for example).
Here's what I'd probably be getting if I were to build a new computer (replace the 980 with the 1070, I just put that in there as a placeholder for wattage and price calculations):

This, if anyone cares, just look at /b/.
I'm 99% sure there is ones of those 'post pictures you aren't supposed to share' threads going.
What did I wrong?
This happened after installing gentoo with EFI

It's 35 idle, it's installed correctly and all but thermal paste is past the 6 month mark
The coolers pretty old too, at least 2 years, does the coolant degrade in aios?
>>54823821
Thanks alot, I literally couldn't get an explanation anywhere. I appreciate it.
>>54823879
Was it correct?

fb moderators are usually pretty quick. Best of luck mate.

Okay, I will try this if livecd works

Uhm. I am lazy
Reposting after last bread died.
So I've been using a HTC Sensation (Pyramid) for a good three and a half years now. I kind of extended the lifespan of this brick by becoming a CM user (and, for the record, sense was cancer). This got me past a lot of OS version requirements for apps.
I tried to to this again last year, bodgeing a technically unsupported lollipop Rom onto the thing. No dice, rickety as all hell once flashed.
So anyway, I've eventually reached a brick wall where the camera quality of this thing, and the 200mb plan attached to it, just isn't gonna fly anymore.
I'm picking up a 1.5g standalone plan and I figure, considering my track record, it'd be worth buying something outright.
I'd do second hand and probably up to ~$200, spec depending, so the stupid question is, after all that backstory...
What's the (CM Compatible) phone market like for someone who's just looking for battery life, camera quality, and a build that can take a few hits, and couldn't give a flying fuck about high performance specs?
>>54824024
I used to use CM on my galaxy s4. It ran perfectly well, i just went back to stock rooted, because i just wasnt interested in all that shit anymore

I'm helping you because I want him to be addicted to video games and less competitive in the job market :^)
Deciding what laptop to get. The Asus UX301LA or a macbook pro 256gb.
I need a good long battery live :3
How do Amazon prices work? Is it all just done with some algorithm?
>>54821270
You want something like this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PwjgXH
If your budget was $600 it would be perfect. If it's just 500 consider going AMD for the cpu
You can cut costs on the above by getting a completely shitty case (or just reusing a case you have already), reusing any spare hard disk you have laying around, and/or getting a refurbished gpu. imo case is the most useless part of it all. Even a hard disk from a dead laptop would do fine.
>>54824145
Points to consider:
skylake is the most power efficient
ssd instead of sata
integrated graphics work fine if you're not a gayman, even if you are be sure it has switchable graphics
Efficient screens
XPS series are known to have good battery life also.
>>54821374
No one answered this, so I'll just rephrase the question.
I want to get a GTX 1070 when the non-reference versions start coming out. I have a computer that's 5 years old, but the i5 2500k I have can still rival newer i5 processors. Is there any reason to get a new computer over upgrading my current one? Will the Z68/PCIe2/DDR3 on my MoBo bottleneck me in any way, or does the fact that my computer matches any new one I'd get in raw power (minus the upgraded GPU) mean I don't need to replace it?
>>54824251
>pci2
Yes,massivly yes
>>54824242
*aren't known
>>54824282
Really, that will bottleneck me?
>>54824304
probably not, or at least not by much
>>54824242
*ssd instead of hdd
My bad. pcie/m.2 are also more power efficient.
>>54824293
*they are
>>54824348
Yeah, I thought so.
Though I do remember hearing something about them pulling more power from the PCIe slot since 3.0 provides more power. Maybe I heard that wrong. Will that hurt?
>>54824304
The PCI3.0/2.0 is a meme. Don't fall for it.
At worst, given you keep old devices for a good couple of years, you can swap out the 1070 for your newer build. I'd go for it if you're absolutely sure the 1070 is what you want.
>>54824304
>>54824348
Call close to 100% increase not noticable?PCIE-2.1 5GT/s 500MB/s per lane
PCI3.1 8GT/s 985 MB/s per flane
>>54824397
not on an externally powered card
>>54824411
wow its almost as if it doesn't even use all that bandwidth
>>54824411
But does the GPU actually utilize all of that bandwidth? Does it even utilize a fraction of it?
>>54824397
They both can provide the same amount of power. Besides, most of the power will come from the power connectors, not the motherboard.
>>54824433
As you can see here >>54824348, no.
>>54824406
I'm 90% sure. I'll give AMD a chance to sell me on their R9 4xx line of cards first since I ended up liking this R9 280 more than I thought I would, but the 1070 hits the sweet spot of what I want in my next GPU, so that's what I have my eyes on.
Glad I don't have to buy a whole new computer to go with it. Now I can spend that money on a new monitor to take advantage of a card that can do 1440p well.
>>54823885
yeah it was correct. thanks!
>>54824467
Yeah we'll just have to see what AMD has to offer and how the pricing will differ from Nvidias offering. Personally I don't think the 1070 will be released at the MRSP. But the performance may be worth it if AMD can't step up to the plate. Not much longer left to wait.
>Glad I don't have to buy a whole new computer to go with it. Now I can spend that money on a new monitor to take advantage of a card that can do 1440p well.

I'm trying to update my mobo BIOS, what file am I looking for? It just fucking say select a bios file which I didn't even know existed in Windows yet I have to use windows explorer to see it. I always it was locked in the mobo
>>54824604
SSD. Get a HDD if you already have an SSD.
So I built my PC and now it doesn't turn on. Nothing happens, no lights, no sound, nothing.
>double checked PCU is turned on of course and plugged in
>double checked motherboard supply is working
>double checked the pins on the motherboard for power button (thought I suspect thats it, somehow, because it's fucking retarded and impossible to get them in)
>power supply isnt turning on
What else can I check?
>>54824699
paperclip the PSU
>>54824699
Turn on PSU power button.
Check if you connected the Power_sw cable correctly (the case power button that goes connected to the f_panel in the motherboard)
TLDR: you connected wrong the cable that turns on your PC.
/g/ opinions on shareX?
>>54824723
Don't have a paperclip
>>54824728
I did it like in the manual. It's exactly as in the pic. Problem is the wires are all black so I don't know how to turn them (power and reset, the others have plus and minus).
How do I split a FLAC file into multiple tracks?
I don't have the original CD, it's like DISC1.FLAC
>>54824875
Didnt your PSU came with a starter? a black block.
>>54824947
Don't think so, no.
>>54824875
it doesn't have to be a paperclip
>>54824898
If you have a cue file there is software that will split it for you
Otherwise you may have to spit it manually in audacity or something
>>54825062
>If you have a cue file there is software that will split it for you
nope.jpg
>spit it manually in audacity or something
I don't know, I'm about to upload it to a private tracker. I don't think they would like that.
>>54825079
Well your options are to upload it as one file or in several
Splitting a flac in audacity and saving the parts as flac isn't going to lose quality.
Is there a search engine that doesn't have any "digital millenium copyright" memes?
