I remember reading some articles about how they slow down your PC and how they really don't stop malware. Is it better just to use Adblock/chrome or other free anti malware programs? Or stick to antivirus software?
Personally I never liked AVS it's just a hassle when they block some pages for no reason.
AV software is only like 20-40% effective.

Yea I remember our old PC getting a Trojan. I'm thinking of replacing the HDD and cpu and ram but it's a gateway so not sure how customizable they are.
they're pretty much useless.
They don't stop real threats, only bullshit ones that old people would generally get

common sense is fine, at least in my experience.
I've had UAC off and no AV for about 7 years now and I've never been infected.
