Does anyone know what might cause steamwebhelper.exe to eat damn near all of my cpu power, and more importantly how to make it not do this ?

Suspending the process fixes it but renders most of Steam unusable, the store is unusable even if I don't suspend it. Started after a Windows update a couple weeks ago, anyone know what's up ?

I've tried reinstalling Steam, but no luck there.

Obviously, your image is fucked.
>>
>>54594821
It's not the image.
The fresh install from Lenovo is fucking up. I'm at the point where I'm just going to disable one Windows update at a time until it works properly but I think it has more to do with the Intel driver than anything else.
>>
>>54594491
It might regulate the amount of botnet actions Google services make.
Also it drops the rendering frame rate, which is somewhat of a thing on high res screens.
Also the bars get turned red because they're actually transparent apparently and disabling the effect saves battery.

>>

The terminal opens and closes because it does exactly what you told it to do: Print Hello World and end program.

Run it from a command prompt or terminal to see the output. Actually, run every program you make from the terminal now.
>>
>>54594851
>The fresh install from Lenovo
Why are you using install media from Lenovo?

Do a fresh install from an un-molested Windows ROM and install the bare necessity drivers, THEN make an image of that to flash them all with, assuming their the same machine.

The program outputs to standard output.
You're supposed to call it inside a terminal.

I'm about to travel to work in Asia for a few years, an am looking for a laptop as a desktop replacement. It will be moved from country to country with me, but probably won't be taken with me to work daily.

I need it to be capable of working on software, 3D modelling, 3D rendering ect.

I'm thinking GTX970, 16gb ram (game development takes a lot of RAM) and a recent i7.

Is this overkill?
The best value laptops for this seem to be Alienwares, i know alienwares are silly looking but hey, they have the best stats for the money. should i go for a 15" or a 17" laptop?

In a perfect world that's what I would do. Time constraints and turnover rates just do not allow for that kind of undertaking in my company.

I don't think it's the windows install that's causing it at all anyway. It's something we're doing post-install that's making them crash but it's definitely related to wireless.

I'm running Mint 17.3 and the SPDIF output goes to idle almost immediately and takes a good .5 second to start when it's needed.

So I get constant ping spikes while playing online games. I get the spikes whether i use wireless or wired connections, and i get the ping spikes while playing on both Xbox and PC games (again both wired and wireless). I've tried port forwarding for xbox live and steam services along with individual games and it hasn't made a difference. NAT settings are all good as well. Been having this issues on multiple modems and routers so that pretty much rules out hardware being the cause (i also experience regular internet dropouts, had the isp come and have a look and they cant diagnose it, possible related to ping spikes?). is there anything else i can try on my end?

Okay, well, the answer to your question is that it probably won't work because the license gets locked to a hardware fingerprint in the UEFI bootloader. Your license would be locked to your VM rather than your actual hardware.

I'm not entirely sure if it's different if you use a retail license to upgrade with, but I doubt it.

So I have a computer that had a botched update or something, whatever the cause was it can't boot now; just gets to 'starting windows' then restarts. Obviously some system files are fucked up and whenever I run sfc scan it says it couldn't repair some of them.
Normally this wouldn't be a big deal because I could just look at the cbs log file and see which ones it couldn't repair, but the cbs log is both like 500mbs which makes it a pain in the dick to search through, and from what I've seen it's not reporting any 'cannot repair blahblah' like it's supposed to. If I delete the cbs.log file so I can start with a fresh one, it simply doesn't make a new one which is infuriating.
Anyone ever had anything similar and have any ideas? Assume reinstalling windows is the last of last resorts.

i will build a system soon and i figured i'm better off building it sooner with "temporary" parts and get to use itrather than wait a few more months and get everything at once. So i'm thinking to get a cheap psu and use the saved money on another 8 gb of ram. Or should i get a decent psu and 8 gb of ram? I'm not asking if i need 16, the mid term goal is 32, that's why i would like 16 at the start. So can i find a silent (very important) cheap psu? really cheap like floston, which i can get for about 15-20 euros. I won't use it much, maybe a few months then get a be quiet.

Yes, those are very quiet. They also come with adapters which basically have little resistors in them to put the fan into low noise mode. The trade off is lower air flow.

For a CPU cooler, though, you should use a PWM fan. I wouldn't use the fan in your pic for a CPU cooler. It should be fine for a case fan, though.

2+ months ago my shadowplay recordings were fine.

Nowadays when I press "record", sometimes things go smoothly. But sometimes I'll feel a stutter/lag. Then when I playback the recording, I notice choppiness in certain parts of it (but not entirely throughout). And when I use ffmpeg to trim the recordings, the video and audio is desynced. Again, 2 months ago this didn't happen.

Clean installing Win10 didn't fix it. Using a driver cleaner and reinstalling an nvidia driver from January didn't fix it. Switching my record location from my HDD to my SSD didn't fix it. Lowering the bitrate, changing the fps from 60 to 30, and lowering the resolution didn't fix it.

Is my 660 ti dying? That's the only thing I can think of.

Regarding temperatures, which program is more reliable, speccy or hwmonitor? I've had some issues with speccy.

And how can it be that, say, the cpu cores are (at least) 5C cooler than the 'package' (i.e. the cpu) in pic related? HWMonitor is reporting the cores at ~10C with the package being ~31C while speccy reports cores at ~26C with the package ~31C as well.

Thing about speccy is that it follows some sort of OS-reported value (probably) while HWMonitor doesn't. For example, literally the exact moment I try to saturate the CPU (i.e. stress) speccy reports temperatures of ~60C and drops to ~27 the second I stop. HWMonitor does not do this. However, again, the moment I stress the cpu the fan also goes to 100% and drops to ~30% (normal/stock) the EXACT moment I stop. So I think that speccy reads the same thing the cpu fan reads (or is instructed to follow by the OS), which may not reflect the reality of the situation, whereas HWMonitor reads something else and is probably more accurate (e.g. OS independent -- if the OS does deal with reporting temps).

Tried speedfan too, reads exactly as HWMonitor.

Thoughts?

I've seen it happening lots of times. Pretty much on every game he plays the computer lags like crazy until it "warms up" like a fucking old car.

I can't understand what's going on with my PC.

My old mobo died, it had a lga 1155 socket, which is almost impossible to find new nowadays outside of the shitty H61 chipset range, so I bought an used one on ebay. It's a MSI P67S-C43 (MS-7673). Being a P67 chipset it doesn't have integrated graphics.

Long story short, I reassembled the PC with it yesterday, and turned it on. It booted to a screen that told me to "Press F1 to Run Setup" or F2 to continue, so I pressed F1 and it took me into the bios. All fair game, I switched IDE to AHCI, set my ram to its proper 1600Mhz (was running at 1333), and downclocked my CPU from 4.6(!!!)Ghz back to its normal 3.3, which makes me think the retard who sold me the used mobo fried his CPU trying to overclock it.

Then I saved the configs and manually selected windows to boot on, without rebooting it first (this bios has an option to just save, instead of save & reboot). It worked.

I went to sleep and woke up today to find it turns on but doesn't give any video output. I tried a multitude of things, and in the end only resetting the cmos with moving the jumper for 15s worked. It takes me back to the F1 for setup F2 for continue screen.

Picking F2 causes it to immediately shutdown and lose video output again, which means another cmos reset. Picking F1, switching configs & doing "save and reboot" does the same. PIcking F1, changing literally nothing and then doing "save and reboot" also makes it shutdown and lose video output again.

The only way I can make the PC work is to pick F1, change no settings, and then manually pick "boot into X" from inside the bios. And once I shut it down, I have to do the same again.

What the fuck is going on? Is this "new" mobo also screwed up? Pic related, the PC with the new mobo installed.
