Do you guys prefer medium or full tower size?
>>54562760
The smallest size necessary.
>>54562760
Mini ITX.
>>54562760
In mainstream or personal use there's no real reason to get a rull tower
>>54562795
Why not
>>54562779
Some reasson?
matx, unless i need more pcie slots, else why waste space.
mid tower
>>54562760
Mid tower. I went from mid to mITX and now I want a mid tower again. mITX is cool as fuck but so compact it's just built and pretty much stays that way, as its a pain in the ass to fit everything in there so I'm much less inclined to fuck with it when bored. Which I enjoy doing.

>hard drives
Seriously though my current case (corsair 750D) can support 6x3.5" + 4x2.5" and you can toss a 3x5.25" to 5x3.5" adapter in the front for a total of 11x3.5" drives and 4x2.5" drives. And in order to use that many drives you'll need at least one PCI SATA/RAID card. Maybe two. So more PCI slots is useful as well.
I'm currently sitting at 3x4TB, 5TB, and a 480GB SSD. So I still have plenty of room to grow, which at my current pace is 4TB per year.
>>54562760
Mid-Tower for my Battlestation, but I have an ASRock M8 mini-ITX as an HTPC. If it weren't for my dual R9 290's I'd have moved everything over to the M8 (because its tiny and sexy at 1/3rd the size of my tower)
Honestly anymore though hardly any reason for a full tower at all, unless you're doing something pretty damn specific
>>54563556
>17.5Tb of Drive space and needs more...
Jesus dude, I archive literally everything I watch and every game I download, and i'm still only using about 6Tb, what in gods name are you collecting?
Mini
>>54562760
Full, it's easier to cable manage and to work in and you're guaranteed to have enough room for whatever you want to put in there.
I have enough space that a computer case really isn't a big deal.
>>54563556
quite the porn addiction you have there
>>54563613
2 reference 290s, do you have to put a bridge on top of the case so it doesnt rocket forwards??
>>54563491
Get a more constructive hobby. Even programming is better.
>>54563556
also how in fucks name do you back that up???
>>54563660
It's everything I've been watching for a couple of years. Music, books, programs, some linux distros, a full disk image of my C:\ drive after a clean install, Anime, movies, TV shows, and some games.
Sitting at ~12TB used, just got the 5TB a few weeks ago.
>>54563771
Continuous cloud backup with crashplan.
Takes for fucking ever to upload everything at first, took me like 4 months with 6TB but once it's uploaded it stays updated fairly well.
>>54562760
Just build your own case.
And if your clever it won't matter. My current project is a desk that doubles as the case.
>>54563848
I was thinking about creating case made of pure glass, maybe just buy aquarium and glue shit in it
is glass good choice of material?
>>54563806
Same like me... But i only save music and movies/shows and i have arround 6Tb and soon , I have to buy a new 4Tb HDD
>>54564070
Yea I got into Anime a lot over the past year, went from 4TB to 12TB over a year. About 5TB of that is Anime.
I'll probably slow down this year to a more sustainable level, but still will likely need another drive by next year.
>>54562760
I have a problem with my PSU cables being too short to route behind a Fractal R4 and I assume the cable length problem is only going to get worse with a full tower.
>>54564173
They make extensions for most PSUs, as well as sleeved extensions to make your case look sexy
>>54562779
this
a 22-inch full tower that is in my case
>>54562947
to maintain a laminar airflow, excess empty volume may cause turbulence
>>54562795
oh there is
depends actually on what sort of personal use
>>54562760
micro-atx
I only have a couple drives and one gpu, so I see no need to have all the excess space
>>54562760
Neither.
Full tower is just penis-waving in most cases. I used to go that route but then I realized I could still get 4 HDDs and everything else I needed in a mid tower which was half the size and weight.
All the guts threads with full tower cases almost never actually have a dozen hard drives and four video cards in them. 1337 cable management is purely for looks.
>>54563108
Whats that case ?
And also nice build.
>>54562760
Mid Tower
Just enough to fit up to a standard ATX Board which has the PCI slots that I need / will eventually need
Not very tall, most if not all traditional power supplies can manage without extensions or if they're not modular
This is for stuff like a bottom mounted power supply having to reach the 4+4 pin connector at the top of the motherboard, as well as trying to use the daisy chain SATA connectors to lead up to the DVD drive if you're some madman who still uses one like me
Then again I've worked on two full tower cases and they worked out fine no problems, but damn Hard Drive bay galore not worth that extra space
>>54564627
If you need more hard drives it's certainly easier to get a big case than to build a NAS
>>54563737
Sometimes for fun I'll manually set the max setting up to about 95% and set target GPU temp at like 55 degrees C then fire up Unigine Valley or 3Dmark.
The giant roar really is impressive, it's louder than the cooling used in our server farm at work. (which is basically a series of industrial fans)
I'll never do mid towers again. Hard to stuff shit in there.
>>54565670
>it's louder than the cooling used in our server farm at work. (which is basically a series of industrial fans)
Bullshit. Or its a shit server farm. Ours at my work is loud as FUCK. We have 4 AC units and a fair bit of circulation though, but its very loud like talking to someone next to you requires you to raise your voice a fair bit. Not quite needing to yell though.
But still your home PC should still be quieter than a server farm.
>>54562760
Full tower
Easier to work with and nothing smaller can fit my drives and cards.
>>54562760
I just want a black box with cutouts for fans and io
