Hey guys, I have a pretty worthless laptop with 4gb ram and 500gb 7500rpm hdd. I am currently buying ram and plan on getting a new hdd or ssd. My question is would an external ssd using usb 3.0 be faster than an internal hdd using SATA?

SSD will be faster than HDD. Doesnt matter what you connect it with. HDDs dont reach the limits of SATA or USB 3 anyway.

No it would not, you'll likely bottle neck on the north bridge
If you connect it directly to your motherboard (and your motherboard is siuted for an ssd) it is faster otherwise a HDD would most likely be faster

Even if I put an operating system on the ssd and run it that way?
>7500rpm
Gotta go fast :DDDDD
