They won't be completely driverless for another couple decades, but self driving cars that need occasional user input will be widely available within the decade. The Tesla Model 3 will really push semi-autonomous driving forward (whether you think Tesla is a meme or not)

Within five years most major manufacturers will have semi-auto cars

But yeah, I don't think we'll see a car without a steering wheel that can cross the country etc. for another 15-20 years. But driving to work? maybe just a half mile or so of human navigation inside of 10 years

they'll push for full self-driving as soon as possible, because there's a lot of money to be made there. Not from selling autonomous cars to consumers, but from selling cars to trucking companies and Uber that allow them to get rid of their biggest expense, the drivers.
