Why does it whip the llama's ass?
1. just werks
2. no bloat or other assorted bullshit you might get with other players
3. lots of plugins for almost any function you might want
4. milkdrop and avs
but really, there are a few music players that are probably just as good. winamp just did it before the others

Why the fuck did I switch to foobar2000? Winamp had always been the shit. They changed something that made me finally say fuck em
you all underage fags will never know the joy of upgrading your ram from 128MB to 256MB and be able to have winamp playing mp3s AND another application opened at the same time.
>>54468233
It's the compact mode that has always made it for me.
Every control/info you could ever want in such a tiny unobtrusive footprint.
My one and only complaint is shuffle doesn't seem to be all that random. It really likes to play the same 40 songs or so.
>>54468439
Or taking 45 minutes to download a 3mb song. Good times.
>>54468439
You could comfortably run Winamp alongside Netscape and a game like UO on a 32MB Win95 machine back in 1997.
>>54468407
They got bought out by AOL and had the whole "modern" makeover.
>>54468233
Still have 2.80 and 5.24 on my Win 7 install. I haven't tested on Windows 10 but I assume they still work.
>>54468724
I still use 5.55. Works just fine.
>>54468662
THey got bought by aol, who promptly turned into shit and let it rot, then they shut down the developers and sold it to some people who haven't really done anything with it.
> been using winamp since ver 1
foobar design look like a clean room, or a mental asylum, no human element, depressing.
WinAmp design actually has some character
>>54468454
Docking compact mode Winamo onto my start bar so I could have multiple MSN Messenger chats on screen, while still being able to skip songs on the spot. And of course sharing what song I listen to with the MSN plus plugin because that shit made you cool. Good times...
>>54468495
Only for Internet Explorer to crash right before the download finishes, meaning you had to redownload the entire song. I wish younger me knew about Netscape back then.
>>54468303
well stated
one of the most stable programs on winblows and still a miniscule footprint
>>54468439

or killing explorer.exe before running some game fullscreen to same ram
>>54468829
Not to mention how piss easy it was to create your own classic themes, even with MsPaint. I had so much fun making themes with sprites ripped from SNES games back then.
Also if you used winamp you should try aimp
>>54468893
>tfw you connected to mindspring or AOL at the full 56.6 or 28.8 kbps

I kinda miss this
>>54468765
After 2.x and (skipping over the shit versions that were heavily influenced by AOL) the final 5.666 release, what does any new owner need to do with it?
Some software is just *done*, and that's a feature, not a bug.
>>54469411
Well in the current state, the new devs, who are actually some old devs working on it on their free time. Are working to reverse the damage done by aol. So winamp doesn't need anything "new" just a nice cleanup.

Winamp went cancerous with 3.x (and stayed mostly that way with 5.x).
v2.95 is still the best to this day.

>>54468233
So what's the deal with Winamp now
Is it 100% dead, or is it open source now?
Can they sell winamp to someone
>>54470090

i got 50M rmvb anime episodes pretty often
- could be downloaded in only a few hours
- were around VHS quality (which i was used to, as i didn't own a DVD player until i got a ps2 in 2004)
- could store a good number of them on hdd's/cd-r's
