What's the best way to root a HTC one M8s?
All the methods seem sketch what with having to make accounts and give out email addresses.

http://theroot.ninja is basically the only non sketchy way for the HTC and Motorola phones, because of s-on/locked bootloader bullshit but it costs 25 dollars. I've used it on 2 phones (m8 was one of them) and it worked flawlessly.
You could also try rumrunner if you're poor, but that's never worked for me.

You can literally use an official HTC Dev page to obtain a code. Also you don't need S-OFF even if you want GPS-based roms
