I put my tablet with screen touching my lap and it works wonders. I didn't get any scratches from carrying my tablet in my pocket even though I carry my wallet in the same pocket.

I have a cheap plastic one for my galaxy s5 mini. It's pretty thick and protects the phone well, but a piece off plastic fell off from it yesterday so it's starting to fall apart. But I guess that's what I get for buying cheap offbrand plastic products, I'm not sure what I'm gonna buy next. If you are talking about my phone, I regret buying it. I could have a really good phone if I made a smarter decision back when buying it. It works really well expect the crashes are killing me, it's so god damn annoying to find your phone frozen and you have to do a hard reset by taking out the battery. I've got one, never ran into any bloatware. They have an app, but everything I've played it with recognized the controller immediately (mostly emulators). That model is small though, it fits my hand structure but you might want to get the larger variant.
Oh and it doubles as a portable phone charger in a pinch.

Spigen case here too. Paid 10 quid for it and it's basically bulletproof, and has raised bezels so the screen doesn't break when it hits the floor. Had this case for over 2 years now and it's a godsend. You can see the marks from when I've dropped it, without the case this phone would be a total mess.

I've been getting plastic mesh/silicone hybrid cases off eBay for about $4~12 for all my phones in the past years, even my iPod Touch has one. I drop my phone at most once a month if I'm stupid, and they're usually 3 foot drops. These guys kept my past three devices nice and safe.
I have a Galaxy S6 now, and I recently acquired a magnetic car dash mount, so I had to cut out some of the rubber behind the mesh to put in a piece of metal for the magnet to attach to and it works perfectly without protruding at all.
They're cheap as fuck and they work well in my experience.

yes it's a flip cover. Yes it's lame but it has two important benefits.
1: I can leave my wallet behind and carry my cards and cash with my phone. Since I carry my phone in my front right pocket I am always aware of it's presence and know the instant anything touches it. Because of the bulk it's not easy to simply lift from my pocket. Wallets are way too easy to steal.
2: Other people are assholes. You're sending a text, checking google to find some place, shitposting on /g/, whatever, and even standing against a wall, out of the thoroughfare, some cunt will find an excuse to bump into you and smack it out your hand. Or being at work where there's machinery and tools and dust and metal filings I'd rather not have on my screen.
3: it also doubles as a fold out stand so i can watch videos away from my computers.

Guys at my warehouse job have the clips. The clip is usually included with ZeroLemon and otter box cases. I never saw the need. Reaching into my pocket takes less than 2 seconds and the clip makes you look like a loser.
