Anybody has a movie reccomendation ?
so, is there a point in buying current gen stuff? my 2500k and 290 are completely fine, but I still want to upgrade. but I know that with Polaris/Pascal coming out, getting a current gen GPU is silly. same with DDR4, so a new 4690k is a no go
or am I retard?
I want to start a private torrent community with me and a few friends to exchange...um..."Linux ISOs". Yeah.
I don't want to run a tracker, so I want to encrypt the files so only those in the group can access them, and using DHT+PEX to to find peers.
I'm planning on using 7z files (AES encryption with no compression) with a 20+ character key only the three of us know. I would use GPG but they're not extremely techy.
Would this setup work?
On a related note, do any major operating systems support .zips with AES encryption instead of ZipCrypto?

You could just convert it after. The whole point is to be basically LICEcap for webm, so I don't think you can.

Putting away 400$ CDN for a Mobo+CPU. I want to upgrade to an i5. I don't do anything crazy on the computer, just play games, so I don't think the i7 is necessary.
Is there any neat things I should look out for with Motherboards? I understand I'll need to get something with similar ports that my RAM/GPU use, but any cool lesser-known things to look for in a MOBO?
>>54247733
No I do not, are soundcards really something just more for a DJ or music producer or some shit?
>>54247849
Yes, in the sense that they may want to output different sounds to different sets of speakers/headphones. Or use 192khz 48-bit sampling / whatever ridiculous formats there are.
How come she was perfectly fine giving the coordinates in a normal way the first two times, but suddenly the third time she had to do it with some dodgy "we must exchange bodily fluids" method?
>>54247928
>Or use 192khz 48-bit sampling / whatever ridiculous formats there are.
My Realtek onboard laptop sound does 192 kHz 48 bit. So does the old SoundBlaster MP3+ external sound card I got a decade ago because laptops almost never have stereo line in.
But yeah, if your onboard sound sound crappy or lacks enough jacks for what you want, get a sound card. Otherwise don't bother.
So those of you that dick around with old machines, where do you get them? I was gonna get a Pentium or PPro or P2 or something to run Win95 on, play some old games, maybe see if any modern Linux would still run on it for shits and giggles. Check Craigslist for my (decently large) city, don't find anything older than a P4. Almost everything is C2D and newer. People on ebay are either just yelling about how it's "VINTAGE LQQK" and asking $200 for a mobo, or they're selling big piles of CPUs for gold scrap.
Where can I find a comfy old machine?
>>54248158
There's a recycling company near me that sells what they can refurb. They mostly have 2006-2010 era Pentiums, but there's the occasional oldie. Last time I was there they had a Tandy 2000 for sale, and people had dropped off some dead Macs from the late 80s.
See what you can find.

I have here a Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system, and I still don't know how to make Deluge work. What is all this bullshit about thin-client? Do I need to connect to another computer to use this crap??? Can't I just open and connect to trackers, and torrent normally?
Pale Moon seems to be struggling on 4chan lately, is it just for me or is this a known thing?
>>54248256
I've never used ubuntu, but on debian you just apt-get install deluge and start it from the menu.
what you might be confused about is that deluge does a client-server thing. The interface connects to a daemon that actually does all the torrenting. I used to have a seedbox and I could run deluge on my desktop and give it the IP of the server and a login, and it'd display all the torrents on my seedbox. But unless you set that up in the options it just runs a copy of the daemon locally when it starts up and works like a normal torrent client.

>>54248609
>magnet links... There isn't a way to preview which files exist in the torrent before adding?
I don't believe so. A magnet link is like an index card that lets you find a book... you have to go look up the book to look at the table of contents. There isn't as much information in a magnet link as a torrent file, it's just a pointer to where to find it.
>>54248671
Yeah, but uTorrent loaded the file list as soon as it received the magnet!
>>54248685
It's probably just aggressive about following where the magnet link leads and fetching that information as soon as you add a magnet link. Deluge doesn't connect to anything until you tell it to start the torrent.
Have a server machine with a license on it that says 'windows svr std 2003 r2 1-4cpu 5clt'. Tried installing both windows server 2003 standard and enterprise but in setup it won't accept either key, if I find (torrent) an 'r2' copy will it work or am I gonna get the same crap? Is there a specific 'r2 1-4cpu 5clt' version or is that last bit of stuff only dependent on the key and not version?

That's what it does if you leave the default setting of "start torrents when they're added" on. If you don't want torrents to start when you add them, then it won't contact the swarm and you won't see your file list.

So to begin with im retarded with phones.
I used to have like 12k hand picked porn/hentai pictures, my phone bricked and i lost it all.
I now have a LG G3 with a micro SD card. What i want to do is download pictures on my phone and move them onto my SD card because it has more space of course. I can move them with the default file manager but it wont let me view them with the default gallery and wont let me move them at all with 3rd party apps. Ive never rooted a phone before but i think ill have to, to do what i what to be able to do.
For a first time retard, how do i root a phone and how do i get around the eariler mentioned problem?
Literally any help would be greatly appreciated because I miss collecting my hentai.

When you're using a foreign loanword in an otherwise English sentence are you meant to try to pronounce it close to how it actually sounds in that language, or modify its pronunciation so it "fits" better with the English words surrounding it?
I always feel hella awkward if I try to pronounce it "properly" even if I know I'm doing it wrong. For example stuff like guillotine, croissant, faux pas.
>>54249856
Varies depending on the word. Some keep their original pronunciation, some don't.

also when asking a question you should remember to actually ask a question instead of just making three statements.
When you're using Microsoft phone activation and they ask you "how many devices have you used this key on" it's best to just say one, right?
What happens if you put a number more than 1? Will they flag your key so you won't be able to use it anymore? Been using the same W8 and Office 2013 keys for ages (both that I got through my university's technet or whatever it's called) on various devices and just phone activating them when the complain.
I have a GTX 980Ti and a 6700K on a Gigabyte UD5 TH. I want to run 6 monitors and use Oculus Rift. I'm thinking of putting one 1440p 144Hz monitor, two 1080p 60Hz monitors, and the Oculus Rift on the 980Ti. The other three monitors on the CPU integrated graphics would be 1080p and 60Hz. To clarify, I mean that I would have three monitors total, two of which are displaying identical screens, with one independent. Not three separate screens with two of them being duplicated.

I want to download the entirety of a board (guess which) and save it on my hard drive. What's the script I have to use?
How do I make my linux look riced? Or am i just falling for a bad scheme?
>>54250179
There's no way you can do it. Only two HDMI ports on the mobo and the Rift counts as two displays. Either cut one monitor or get a cheap AMD card and using it to host monitors, if you have the means.
>>54250496

lenovo, but only the older ones and the new ones that actually have buttons.
SNSV is always reccomended. HP has actuaslly stepped up their game recently but they still are meh. microsoft are alright but the touchcreen is as always just that bit off.
if you want something like that an ultra book would be good. What do you consider a portable power adapter though? if its honestly for work a 300 dollar latop would be fine depending on the work, but you probs want an ultrabook.
Cpu for dota is something like an apu since it has good on board graphics. If you have some wierd hate for amd, an i5 with an nvidia 920 (gpu) might be alright. But as long as you have it on low an apu can run it.

>>54250652
I did make a live USB. You severely underestimate how long i've been trying to solve this problem. It doesn't help... It's the same outcome. After creating a partition table and going to install it always fails to mount. Even if it doesn't tell you it still freezes when it starts to install. I know. I left it on for multiple days once. I've tried it with old hard drives and brand new hard drives with different boot mediums and even different distros, but I need a debian derivative for what I want to use it for... It has something to do with the hardware. I've learned that much. It's also happened to alot of other people in the past.
I can't afford to just buy a new motherboard and fucking take my whole rig apart just to install linux.

>are you sure your mobo can boot properly from it?
It has to be. I took everything else out of my computer except the processor and still got the same result.
>it could be the zipdisk itself is faulty.
Who says zipdisk?
>try a cd if you must.
I've gone through a whole 25 pack of cds.
>otherwise just roll with windows i guess
Not an option.
public static boolean NumberCheck(String s) {
for (int i = 0; i <= s.length(); ++i) {
if (!Character.isDigit(s.charAt(i))) {
return false;
}
}
return true;
}
So say I'm using this method to check if a string has only digits. I enter "12e" and this method sends false, all is good. But then I enter "1444" and I suddenly get a "string out of bounds" error.
But if I do...public static boolean NumberCheck(String s) {
for (int i = 0; i <= s.length(); ++i) {
if (!Character.isDigit(s.charAt(i))) {
return false;
} else {
return true;
}
}
return true;
}
Suddenly there's no problem. No errors if I input only numbers. It returns true like it should. But why do I need to put it in the for loop? If I don't put any return statement outside of it, the method gives me an error on the return statements. I don't want to have two return true statements as that looks silly, and I thought this would work regardless.
>>54250733
it is? its mainly for future proofing. 8k seems like its around the point where nothing will matter anymore, especially for pixel density that the eye can see for small screens. So 4k video futureproofs a little for when 4k is the norm on phone screens.
>>54250757
again, try a different usb. Try a different distro, im pretty sure they dont all have the same installer.
if this is actually neccesary to use linux, you could just compile yourself. Its pretty fun (not)
>>54250823
In the second snippet of code you aren't actually checking the whole string, you only check the first character. If it's not a digit you return false, else you return true. Both side of the if return from the function and the remainder of the for loop never executes as a result.
your first snippet of code should work if you replace the <= with a <. The characters in a string are string[0], string[1] ... string[len - 1], and using <= checks from string[0] to string[len]. Hence the out-of-bounds.
>>54250707
Thanks for the reply. Yeah I think ultrabook will be the way to go, I'd rather invest 1k into something I will actually enjoy a good computing experience on.
By portable adapter I mean something that isn't a brick and doesn't weight 4lbs. I haven't owned a laptop in a while, but my last one had a fucked adapter due to me falling for the portable GPU meme.
I really don't want a touch screen at all, would rather pay for a nice matte screen than a feature I wouldn't use at all.
I will definitely look into your brand recommendations with an i5. I don't hate AMD but all my desktops I've always went Intel for, so I will probably keep my blind brand allegiance.
Mostly worried about picking some shit build quality. I want a nice screen and a nice keyboard. Will bring a gayman mouse with me for the vidya but will use the laptops keyboard.

Is it true that if you work for Valve you can play any Steam game for free?
>>54250940
I think that there was some kind of special "subscription" available for Valve employees (not sure if it was for all employees or only for some) that gave access to a lot of games, but I don't think it was all of them and I don't know that it exists anymore.
Legally it can be kind of murky just giving people carte blanche access to every game in the library, since Steam doesn't actually own those games, they are just a distribution platform, so they need permission to just give copies away.

I5, ssd, 8 gigs of ram. Most of the offerings have the Intel 520 integrated graphics I'll have to look into how a few graphics options perform, but like dota 2 isn't too graphically intensive and as long as that runs 60fps on med-low settings its fine, anything else I play are older isometric RPGs or indie stuff.

Is it illegal for two straight guys to get married purely for tax or benefits purposes?
>>54252080
Why would it be?
>>54252084
Taxman might not like it
>>54252080
Well, keep in mind that for a common law marriage to be valid, it must be consummated, in other words the two straight men must have penetrative sex at least once and be able to demonstrate proof that they have done so if requested by an auditor. Failure to produce said proof is grounds for an immediate annulment, as well as stiff penalties for all involved.
>>54252112
Seriously? It's the law from which retarded country? US?
>>54252125
Yeah, I'm in the US but I know I had an auditor ask for the sheets from my wedding night at one point to prove that my wife and I had consummated our marriage properly. I imagine gay men would need to do the same, or provide some other form of proof.
Why do people say "overclock X" or "overclocking Y" when there's no clocks?
>>54252163
That's just how language is. It's not uncommon for words to be used analogously even when their original meaning doesn't make any sense. For example why say that you were fishing through your drawers to find something when there aren't any actual fish in there? It's the same kind of thing.
>>54252146
Why not fuck in front of the jury to show them how ridiculous it is? You don't respect private life in US?
>>54252197
In circuits a clock is a signal that turns on and off. The clock speed of a CPU is how many times it cycles per second. Usually this is kept below a certain level so the CPU doesn't overheat but you can speed the clock up and bring it over what it's meant to be.
>>54252259
Nah, in the US having an unreasonable desire for privacy usually is interpreted as meaning you either have done something wrong or you are ashamed for some reason, either way it's not really encouraged. If you have nothing to hide then you have no need of privacy.
>>54252275
Yes, but that is only the original meaning of the term. Since overclocking gained popularity it has also begun to refer more generally to configuring electronics to operate above their factory specs. A "clock" isn't really required in that sense. Of course, context is also important here, it's understood that you mean a different thing when you say you are overclocking your CPU than if I said I was overclocking my toilet.
Can someone recommend me a VT-d supported LGA 1150 motherboard for i7-4790k? I just found out that the 4790k supports it. I don't plan on overclocking since I feel 4.0GHz w/ 4.4 turbo boost stock is sufficient enough that I don't need to play with overclocking so much.
>>54252281
So it is normal to fuck in public?
>>54252315
Only if you are both getting paid to do so. If you are actually enjoying yourselves then it's generally illegal.
>>54252331
So you say that it's better to hide coitus? I thought that we should have nothing to hide. I don't understand.
>>54252346
Well there is a difference between normal social discourse and actions which disturb and outrage the public decency.
>>54252353
But why do we have to prove the existence of action that outrage the public?
>>54252298
The way you make something operate above it's factory specs is upping the frequency of the clocks in it's processors. Anything else would be called modding.
>>54252377
The public has no interest in your copulation, though. The taxman has interest if it means you are cheating him.

>also why is it so difficult to reverse engineer software, like stuff in .exes? what makes it difficult
When you compile source code into a .exe it transforms the human readable text into a set of instructions for the cpu to execute. Machine code is basically a bunch of numbers that tell the cpu to move something from one memory address to another or do some calculation. It's technically possible, but really difficult to reverse engineer something from it.

>he fell in love meme
>>54256968
>Why do different open source operating systems exist?
Because people can disagree on how things should be done
>>54257184
Rough popular explanation:
After compilation, some of the "readability", like comments, variable names or "human" design, is optimized away because basically hardware doesn't need all that. It's basically not present in the executable in most cases.
You can still easily get an assembly listing for any program you run, which can count as a "source code" for the program, but it can be hard or nearly impossible to make heads or tails of it if the program is big because it's "hardware friendly" and not "human friendly". Make it "human friendly" again is a non-trivial task that requires guessing what the original engineer had in mind.

That's essentially how computers encode plain text documents, like the html you're reading now.
A .exe isn't just binary-encoded plain text though. It's a list of instructions for the cpu. You can get those instructions from the .exe (assuming you know what kind of cpu it was made for) but it's still non-obvious what the set of instructions are doing.
Imagine if someone gave you a list of directions to follow. Something like:Start on Mulberry street facing north.
Turn left onto Apple street.
Turn right onto Oak street.
Turn right onto Maple street.
Go 1 mile, then your destination is on the right.
Seems reasonably easy to follow, right?
Let's turn that into something resembling machine code:1. START a
2. FACE 0
3. GO b
4. TURN 270
5. GO c
6. TURN 90
7. GO d
8. TURN 90
9. GO 1
10. TURN 90
11. STOP
It's easy enough to translate normal instructions into the "machine code", but if you just have the machine code, it's really hard to know what you're even looking at unless you have some additional info.
>>54257605

I see a lot of memeing about that GPU. How come it's so much worse than even its predecessors? What exactly went wrong?

I want 1440p or higher and 144Hz and I'm wondering whether to tack IPS on that.
How do I make a bash script restart the process upon exit? I'm running something 24/7 that is fairly likely to time out and quit. That in itself is okay, but I won't be around to restart it.:start
python main.py
goto start
This is what someone recommended to me on Windows, and it's exactly what I need to emulate on Loonix.
Thanks.

I'm having a couple of technical interviews for a Java Junior dev position in a couple of months, any good websites/projects to help me prepare? what kind of stuff do they expect me to know?
>>54259634
That's fine by me. Wondering if I'm really going to see a difference for the money, though.

Mobile GPUs have always been shit but Intel's igpu's have gotten better.
Couldn't find a direct comparison of the exact igpu for that chip, but I think it may be better than this one.

does the MB bios support that CPU ? you might need an upgrade.
>>54259958
Because it's a fashion accessory
>>54259745
not if you're using linux.
not because linux is safer or anything, but you'll likely not find the drivers for it on linux

A few weeks ago, an anon posted a Java textbook (Introduction to Java Programming, 10th ed) either here or in /dpt/ which I've been using and really like so far. However, I can only get the answers to the even-numbered problems. I've been trying my hand at the odd-numbered examples (usually labeled as the harder ones) and I just wanted to see if that same anon or someone else has the complete answer guide.

I installed apache the other day on a virtual box with bridged networking enabled (yeah i ran a command and it worked, im a genius).
Can somebody explain how I can access the server from another computer?
Is it just as simple as putting the network IP of the computer into another computer in my house?
How would I connect to it from outside the network?
Building new workstation for programming. Is this good? I know we have shitty prices in yurop.

could save some by not getting a Z170 chipset motherboard since your CPU can't be overclocked anyway.

Does having a lot of windows open at the same time stress the RAM or the CPU? ...or both? I'm getting a new desktop and wanted to know if either was particularly important for that.
< Japanese princess.
>>54261005
Number of windows doesn't really impact performance, what matters is what those windows are doing
>>54261005
Depends if the opened programs are RAM heavy or CPU heavy.
>>54261005
Using your computer stresses the parts. Everything should be kept in its original packaging in a cool, dry place.

I do this a lot in chrome, and there's some slowdown if there's a lot of HD video tabs open. Some pictures open. Some videos open. Some smaller programs. Torrent usually in the background. Maybe a lightweight game every once in a while.
My PC is 6 years old too though.

What container format should I use for AAC audio only (no video)?
I want to change the name of my file directory for Foobar2k, but I don't want to lose all my playlists. Is there an easy way to rename my directory and have all the playlists follow the same directory but with a changed file name?

I know it sounds counter-intuitive but when I'm building my workstation i like to save as much money on the computer itself and spend it on peripherals. For instance, I very much would love a i7 6th gen but not if I can't have a couple of nice 1440p monitors or a quiet but tacktile keyboard. Or even a comfy chair.
Same goes for the motherboard or ssd. Don't get me wrong, an ssd is a must for me now. But half that much is fine.
If you've got the money for both system and peripherals then go for it.

You can edit the playlist file directly in a text editor and replace all instances of the old directory with the new one.

I'm on a PC, so compatibility is not an issue.

So do I save the playlist file as a .txt, or should I just save it as a playlist and open it with a text editor?
Sounds shitty but it's better than what i've done in the past
I need linux only for basic web dev shit like SASS, gulp and so on and lubuntu set on a virtual machine seems to be working alright. Should I stay with it or try other distro?
>>54261333
Save it as you would normally. Then open in a text editor like notepad++. Ctrl+h to find and replace. Make a backup of it before you start.
>>54261372
Try a minimal distro like Arch or Debian.
>>54261372

Okay that's not bad. Notepad++ can change all instances of one word to another one, too, can't it?
