Im thinking of getting the Moto X Pure. I want near-stock Android, Marshmallow now or very-soon, 5.5" or bigger screen, around $300.

I like the screen size, resolution, camera capability, SDcard, near stock android. Qualms w/ the X are sketchy battery for screen that size; no finger print.

Should I and why not if.

I say get it. I had a moto g3 and it as nice, I personally couldn't do with the 5.7" of the moto x pure but if you're into it, that phone looks to be great all around. the average battery shouldn't be a problem until it starts losing capacity later on like all batteries.
>>
>>54197812
Have you looked at the Moto X play?
I got my moto x play a couple days ago and it's awesome.
Around 6 hours of screen on time, great performance, great camera. I'm really impressed with motorola's smartphones

The Moto X Pure has a better build quality, better display and a better system chip but it has a smaller battery.
That combined with the qhd display probably results in a worse battery life.

If you value the qhd display and slightly better performance go with the pure edition
If you value battery life go with the moto x play, but I'm sure they're both great

Would it be a meme-way to get a Galaxy A5 2016? Am I being jewed by Samsung? They're offering their phone for around ~360 yuroshekels, but the performance is somewhat horrible and has only 2GB of RAM. The screen clarity and quality is really outstanding, though. So in the end, I think it's a bit overpriced, ain't it?
>>
>>54199560
Well I'm about to order a redmi 3 ended I can finally deposit the money in my account, after easter.

It's 5 inch, but fits the rest of your specs.

I'm going for the pro, with more ram and internal storage, but the regular should be fine too
>>
>>54199602

Did the weirdo who supposedly worked at Samsung a few threads back ever say if the new Note was going to have USB C or some sort of video port? I don't see why they'd bother with the Gear VR thing if they're just going to limit input to whatever the phone can render. They'd make a goddamn shit-ton if their Note+Gear VR could work 100% with the desktop without having to use weird third party streaming apps over wifi or USB 2.0. Suddenly you have Gear VR as a legitimate option over the Rift and Vive that doubles as the phone that you use every day.

I literally just want to use Virtual Desktop with my phone on a 4k OLED screen, I don't give a shit about any shitty phone games fuck

I have a rooted S6 (G920F) and I used TWRP Manager to install TWRP on it. I wasn't careful with verifying the directory and apparently it installed on the wrong one, and after rebooting it's been stuck in the boot screen with the "RECOVERY NOT SELINUX ENFORCING" message at the top left.
Using Vol- + Power to get into Download mode causes it to boot back into the same screen. No other combination of buttons does anything at all.

Is there any fix for this?

Great specs for the value, but has some bugs I suppose, otherwise, why would it be so cheap? Right? Also, you'll have less than 16GBs of space, since the OS will take shitload, especially if it's 6.0.

Literally housefire SoC.

You're better off with another Chinese manufacturer instead if local is too expensive.

There are some reliable brands out there. Xiaomi, meizu, oukitel, and others I can't remember.

Whatever i'll ask here.
The Idumbphone5c that i bought 2.5 years ago is finally starting go give in, mostly on the battery front. I randomly dies when below 60%.

But that's not the issue, i now need a new phone. And since i want something nice this time i'm gonna ask you guys.
Any nice phones that run smoothly, nice battery time etc.? Nothing extraordinary, and i am smart enough to make any changes to it myself.
Preferably below 500$ since i'm pretty poor.

>>
>>54203016

Xiaomi build-wise are as good as anyone out there. You get at least a year's warranty no matter where you buy and that particular shop has a good trustpilot score. My one reservation about the phone is the xiaomi ROM but by and large impressions are good. If I don't like it I'm more than willing to fuck around with third party ROMs rather than buy a western phone and be stuck with a €100+ cost premium. It'll be my first chinkphone so it'll be a learning experience, worth the risk though when there are quality brands like xiaomi around.

>>54198342
Had my hands on both. I would say that the MTK6735P is massively underclocked and the K4000 Pro is quite enough to get two days of battery life. Pretty good general purpose phone, IMO, it's quite durable as I hear. The K6000 is quite overkill for this job. In my opinion, a Redmi 3 would probably be the best purchase at the same price range of the K4000 Pro though, as the connectivity is better and has better sensors and a better GPU.

What's the opinion on the Wileyfox Swift?
It has the specs of the 2GB Moto G for the price of the 1GB version.
Since it runs CyanogenOS and has CyanogenMod builds, it's probably going to get updates.
Only thing that concerns me are the comments that non-Wileyfox USB cables don't fit snugly

I've had a driod rzr m for ever now, and I'm probably getting a new phone today.
I semi-hated the software updates, didn't like the changes to the keyboard, and google seem more hard pressed than normal to get all my contacts, occasionally reminds me to link up to the cloud, which I don't do, and everything else under the botnet-sun.
Like why the fuck do I want my phone to know my finger print?
I like my smart phone small/simple, and lately the bells and whistles have gone over the top. A nice camera and an aux audio jack that isn't gimped out of the box is all I really need.
What's a half decent 'upgrade' from this? I totes don't need the current high end of this gen, just something to get me through the next two years or so.

>>54210048
my phone is a galaxy core prime that i bought from the shop so it should support it as my other prime which was running kitkat worked fine with it.

just that this phone came with bloatware and restrictions + a lolipop
>>
>>54210391
Then I'd recommend a custom rom, seems like a software issue.

>>54210091
Just how tech illiterate are you? Redmi note 2 is best value phone for top tier performance. Installing the stock rom from xiaomi is a fucking breeze, they've got a detailed step by step guide for it too.

>>54210075
They should both offer similar battery life, but if I'd get the redmi 3, I'd go for the pro. I think the oukitel might even offer slightly better battery life thanks to the weaker SoC and an extra 500mAh in the battery.

Can't find any accessories for the pro.

I'm currently 70% redmi 3 pro, and 30% k4000 pro.
>>
>>54210518
what ones would u reccomend for a core prime?
>>
>>54210534
Not sure about core prime, I'm still on my Nexus 5. But so far I'm happy with aosp. CM was a little disappointing.

You shouldn't just take my word for it though, it's best to try out a few and see which one works best for you.

Roughly the difference between a Lamborghini and a Civic
>>
>>54210594
Well it's a possibility that the bloat might have something to do with it not working.

At the very least you should see a slight bump up in battery life. Something lightweight would be best imo
>>
>>54210518
I'm pretty good with technology, but I've never owned a smartphone before. I've owned a tablet but I've only rooted it, never installed a new rom. plus chinese products aren't usually known for quality
>>
>>54210518
Any reason to get the redmi 3 pro instead of the oukitel k6000 pro?

The k6000 pro has slightly better specs for the same price.
>6000mAh battery instead of 4100mAh
>mtk6753 instead of SD616
>5.5 inch 1080p instead of 5 inch 720p
>same ram
>>
>>54210518
I think the Redmi is more future proof as well. the under-clocked MTK6735 might be enough for now, but a year or more from now it's gonna start choking on heavier apps.
>>
VZW note 4 is unlocked now right? How about the Note 3?
>>
>>54210933
>mtk6753 instead of SD616
They offer roughly the same performance, so it depends on what size design you prefer more. if your'e comfortable with bigger devices go with the K6000, it has a bigger battery, HD screen, android 6.0 and is a little cheaper.
>>
>>54211108
Which is the more efficient SoC?

The 615 was pretty bad iirc, thermal issues and relatively high power consumption?

Was that fixed with the 616?
>>
>>54211031
where can I buy one in the US?
>>
Why pick shinier of two turds? Just get Note 3 Pro instead.
>>
>>54211131
Yes, the 616 is basically a fixed 615 without the thermal and throttling issues.

that's fine. I'm only switching to T-Mobile so I can get a smartphone without a data plan. I have Wifi almost everywhere I go so there's no need to pay so much extra. right now I'm using a feature phone just to avoid a data plan.

I looked up the phone on willmyphonework and there's a TDD and an FDD version. what does that mean? Also how would I know if I'm buying a chinese or a global version?

So after a year of using SlimKat on my Galaxy S4 and dealing with increasingly lower battery duration and random LTE signal drops, I decided to try out a rooted and somewhat debloated stock ROM, since SlimRoms is essentially dead. My battery and LTE issues are gone, but I really do miss the customization I got in SlimKat. I really don't care too much for the TouchWiz interface, and I could care less about half of the "features".

How is CyanogenMod on the GS4? I see there's a CM12.1 stable release and CM13 nightlies. Anyone try them out on the S4? How's battery life?

i had one but sold it and got a Nexus 6P. the hardware of the OP2 was amazing, worked very well with no problems. The screen was ok, average LCD screen. i never had overheating. my biggest problem was the OS. this thing took forever to register that you tapped on an app to open it. the lag continued with typing on any keyboard, using the voice search, the music player, anything. the lag was horrible. although there wasnt cyanogenmod with fps support at the time, you could try flashing that if you get it. personally, I will never be getting a phone that doesn't run stock android ever again.
>>
>>54214197
no, god I hate it when non-Americans try to generalize their consumer markets
you can have just text/call and pay monthly (contract or not, you can pay in cash without a contract too).
you can also have text/call/data on a non-contract plan, by purchasing a given provider's in store card (or re-up online).

I've managed to maintain text, call, data with anon payments in US for $40 a mo.

HTC 10 has less far bloat than all Samsung stuff that will give them more benchmark points and faster updates. The s7 is only superior if you can get the exynos cpu, which is more closed. HTC's warranty covers opening the boot loader and has better speakers and dac if that's a plus. I prefer the size of 5.2 inches. The g5 was a disaster they aren't even selling the dac anymore and the modular design has a gap so the build quality is a flaw. I never used a note, but some people claim it's a rewrapped note 4 with more features and updated specs. Although
the v10 is really big 5.7 inch 5.9 if you count that second screen, but it's the only innovative product in your list. The 'mini' mode shows how awkward they handle the size.
