do you keep local copies of music, /g/?

I have downloaded a few albums/singles that Spotify doesn't have, but storing music in any form well you might as well be carrying around a fuckton of CDs
>>
>>54196996
None of my music is available on Spotify.
You should diversify your tastes beyond top 40.

>inb4 hipster
>>
>>54196996
That's why you use Google Play Music fucko
>>
>>54197039
Hipster.

I like lots of EDM and rap mostly, but yea i mainly have newer music no need to store {obscure one-hit-wonder-band from the 80's only 2 people have heard of]
>>
>>54196996
I have a terrabyte of music stored locally and can access it from anywhere in the world.

I don't care how popular or unpopular a band is, it's not going to influence my opinion of them.
You should try enjoying music sometime, instead of blindly listening to big room house because all your friends do it too.
>>
>>54197108
then this is more of a *cringe* than anything else

But there are tons of small time bands on Spotify
>>
>>54197147
Obviously not.
>>
>>54197124
ye i kinda can see that but i was mainly asking why people would store music locally aside from remoting in i cant think of a reason, and i know /g/ likes to shit on spotify but streaming music services are so much more convenient. if i have to deal with local music files i feel im back in 2004.
>>
>>54197039
When did you check last time?
>>
>listening to proprietary sounds

What a faggot, you know you can make free noise by slapping your belly with your hands?
>>
>>54197162
To get higher quality
>>
>>54197162
Because streaming services require a constant internet connection and don't have the kind of music that I listen to.
Plus, I bought a 128GB SD card for $30. Storage space for music is only a deterrent if you're using some piece of shit phone that doesn't have expandable storage.
>>
I still collect CDs and other formats. I also buy and download albums

I love music
>>
I upload my music to Google Play Music, all for free. It's fantastic.

Nah, I listen mostly to hardstyle and glitch hop. Also weebshit, but I can't blame an American company for not having weeaboo music.
>>
I had to start when NetEase began blocking a bunch of shit for foreigners.
>>
I keep all my music on a RAID NAS. Just so I can cry when I lose it all in a house fire.
>>
I only listen to local music, and pandora.
If I downloaded a discography of the Dubliners, Amon Amarth, and probably less than 10 other bands I might not really need pandora.
>>54197162
Streaming music means you NEED an internet connection.
Which:
A. Isn't always available
B. Uses more battery
C. If you're away from wifi, uses mobile data
D. Can end up buffering if your connection deteriorates
With storage being so cheap, there's no reason to not have local music.
>>
>>54196996
>might as well be carrying around a fuckton of CDs
false dichotomy, sage.

I mostly listen to
>doujin/fan albums
>independent stuff (soundcloud, bandcamp, etc.)
>video game soundtracks (I download entire OSTs instead of just songs I like so I can pick and choose/discover more songs)
>anime soundtracks (not just OP's/ED's)
>chiptune
Most of which you probably wouldn't be able to find on streaming services.
Plus listening to local frees up bandwidth, saves on battery/credit if you're on mobile, etc.
Right now my big playlist of things I listen to when I sleep or do other things is at about 1.7k and growing.
>>
>>54196996
Why would I not? For less than $100 I can have 128 GB on something smaller than my thumbnail.

Internet connections go down, content gets dropped due to contract changes, files get deleted, services get discontinued, cloud storage usually wants money every month or year if you have very much to store at all, and accessing it is slower and less reliable than with local storage.

Local storage with a decent backup plan is forever.

So why would you NOT store things locally? At least if you lose something it's because of your own incompetence and that you can prevent if you're clever, not something outside your control that you have no recourse to.
>>
you must have some basic bitch taste if spotify has all the music you like
>>
>>54197155
As a big fan of experimental and ambient music, yes, there is. It's obviously not great, but Cankun, Alvin Band, and even Dean Blunt are on Spotify
>>
>>54197763
Running Spotify Premium lets you cache the music, so you'll never be reliant on a connection after the initial download. This also includes local files, so your obscure music will also be available offline on all the devices you use.

Granted, you'll have to pay for that, but $10 is nothing.
>>
>>54196996
Yes, I've downloaded hours of touhou bands
>>
>>54199187
if $10 is nothing then you shouldn't have a problem buying a 128GB SD card
>>
>>54196996
>Why would you own something when you can rent it!!!
>Like, how is owning a house good when you can be a good cuck instead!
I don't know, but you should probably leave this board and go back to /v/eddit where you belong.
>>
>Who needs local copies? I can just listen to what I want on Grooveshark :^)
>>
>>54196996
I keep it on my large collection of casettes and CDs.
>>
Why of course, what with $30 200GB microSD cards there's no excuse to avoid data hoarding
>>
>>54196996
Of course I do, all in lossless formats for the most part unless it cannot be found in CD format and is some indie shit that only got released on MP3.

For portable formats I usually convert them into ~128kbps Opus. Saves me gigabytes upon gigabytes of space on my phone. Plus, since I do have the lossless versions of the music, I can easily share it with friends who are still stuck in the MP3 era without degrading any quality.
>>
as an australian with a download of 4mbits, and frequently going down into the decimals, you kind of have to store locally without relying on using your data
>>
>>54197039
If most of your music isn't on spotify then you are actively trying to find music that is obscure.
>>
>>54197155
Pretty much anyone get their music onto spotify if they want to, so there is a lot of obscure no-name bands.

All of my music is downloaded, brah.

I don't always have internet access on my computer, and I don't use mobile data on my phone at all.

I do use spotify from my tablet (for fucking free) at home to discover new music, though - the playlists are amazing for this.

>>54197219
I do this only for a few, special albums.
>>
I pay for google play music, which comes with youtube red for no additional cost. Between the two, I can listen to whatever music I want without downloading it locally, but I still do if it's worth keeping forever.

Dis some good shit.

Yes, I have a bunch of hipster shit that's not on streaming services

Just don't buy retarded phones without microSD slot. Go to good tracker and download all music you listen.
>>
>>54196996
>but storing music in any form well you might as well be carrying around a fuckton of CDs
You're retarded and your thread is bait for newfags.
>>
Over the years I've slowly lost shit on old hard drives and devices and also I'm no longer internet cool so I don't get invited to private trackers. Used to be you could search mediafire for anything through google but that's not a thing anymore. So I have a bunch of shit I used to listen to in 2011 and otherwise I listen to touhou edm on youtube.
>>
I use Google Play Music. I uploaded my library to it and it works great. I keep a back up at home just in case GPM goes under but so far so good.
>>
>>54196996
>do you keep local copies of music, /g/?

How else will I listen to my animu music?
>>
>>54196996
I'll store music occasionally.
There's no reason not to have some music stored locally. Storage these days is hilariously cheap.
if whatever phone you have doesn't support microSD in an age of cheap 64, 128, and 200GB cards, maybe I can understand not storing shit locally

but I also don't have everything stored anymore, just enough to let me listen to some shit in cases of spotty connection, barely 2-3 gigs of music
>>
>>54196996
>local storage

It's like you fags don't even cloud.

Are you retarded?
>>
>local copies of music

Yup I even turned full autismo on that one. I have tons of CDs, all ripped to my NAS. On top of that I have a raspbi that is connected to my stereo.
Now here comes the autistic part. Every physical CD has a QR code on its cover, when I scan that code the album starts playing on my stereo.

have all of it uploaded to google play music too.
>>
>>54199187
If you're caching music from spotify you're storing it, so I guess you like carrying around a ton of CDs, huh?
(Assuming you're OP)

I don't have to pay a fee to listen to my music.
>>54202682
That's not autism, that's brilliant.
>>
>>54197039
there's like 5 songs in my 1500 song primary playlists that were ever top 40

spotify actually has more obscure artists I like than whatcd, especially foreign shit
